My wife and I stayed at Pirates Cove for our Birthdays and had a great time. May was a wonderful time of the year to visit. We havent been back to the Key in 25 + years and really enjoyed our time here. Michele was a great host and made sure our stay was enjoyable. Gave up all kinds of suggestions of dinning and night life. Pirates Cove is close enough to enjoy all that Keys have to offer but far enough off the busy streets to relax. You wont be disappointed if you stay here. We will definitely come back in the future. Renting a car was cheaper and safer than a scooter. Tom and Pat gRecommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: What a joy to have you stay with us! You are such fit and active guests! It was so much fun to visit with you! Please come back again!

How does one describe a week at Pirate's Head Cove ... a unique combination of Living with the Locals and a 5 star hotel! First, let me say that Michelle was awesome - like a concierge in a good hotel she knew what to recommend and was always a phone call away for whatever ? or concern you might have. I love to kayak - it was awesome to just launch whenever I wanted and explore from the Atlantic to the Gulf and around the mangroves! My husband likes to snorkel. The guide books say that Fort Zachary Taylor State Park is the best beach for snorkeling. We did spend an afternoon there but my husband found snorkeling off the deck THE BEST! The house was very comfortable and clean - well represented in the description and photos. The biggest problem we found was .... do you want to relax on the deck - maybe kayak and snorkel before hitting the hot tub ... or head to downtown Key West for all that that has to offer. Decisions. Decisions. What would I recommend for activities, etc : The Hogfish Bar & Grill - great food and music right around the corner. In downtown Key West - try Kelly's Caribbean Bar, Grill, and Brewery - happy hour has $2 drafts and 1/2 price AWESOME appetizers from 4-7 (I definitely recommend the Havana Red). And as far as parking downtown - just ask Michelle about the secret parking place and she will save you some $. Michelle even has an awesome Cuban chef on speed dial who (with notice) will deliver authentic Cuban cuisine right to the deck ... and it is delicious! The above review is a truthful summary of our visit - I'm only reluctant to submit it because it really is an undiscovered gem!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: Ahoy Cathy and Brad! Thank you for staying with us, I really enjoyed our conversations! I am so glad you both enjoy the wonders of PirateHead Cove's ocean front and the fun that can be had there. It was a pleasure to see someone using the kayaks and swimming so much! I'm pleased that you took advantage of the other cool amenities too, among them, our Cuban chef! Thank you for the tips on rose gardening in the tropics, Brad. Perhaps when you both come back again we will have some roses growing in the garden! Thanks again and fair winds, Michele

Very cozy out of the way of the hussle and bussle of Key West. Michelle isa very wonderful host a wonderful resource. We saw Irene the iguana every day. The reef and all the fish were very relaxing. This was an anniversary present trip. One of the best vacations we have been on. We will definitely return and will stay on the boat this time. Thank you for everything! We returned to snowstorm! We will recommend it to all of our friends!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Ahoy! It was such a pleasure having you and your family here, and your wonderful review is especially welcome, as you have experience as owners of a Bed and Breakfast! I can't wait to see you all again! Fair Winds, Michele

Just want to say I think the property was represented well and we had an outstanding time. It actually surpassed my expectations. I know we all really enjoyed the house and your hospitality. Again just wanted to say thank you, and hopefully we can do it again next year. Some notable things: outdoor shower w/ hot water, iguana that lives in the backyard along with all sorts of other wildlife (fish, birds, manatees, etc), hot tub on deck, outdoor furniture, gas grill, and the use of the kayaks / bikes. If your looking for a great vacation at a very good locale this is it. It's small but cozy and there is plenty of room outdoors which is where we spent most of our time when at the house.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, girls getaway.
Owner response: It was a pleasure having you and your family here. It is really nice to see people getting the most out of their Keys and PirateHeadCove experience. We look forward to seeing you again next year! Jeff and Michele

We were blessed to have chosen this lovely garden paradise for our honeymoon, and it was just beautiful! The owners are not only hospitable, but very accommodating. The house was immaculate and well-appointed, and we were treated (by my office as a wedding present) to a wonderful sunset cruise on the 38 ft yacht on the property. The grounds are lovely, and our most favorit thing every morning was to feed the local fish and wildlife off the dock. Our sincere thanks for such a special week - peaceful, romantic and unforgettable! We will remember it for the rest of our lives.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you so much for choosing PirateHead Cove for your special time! It was wonderful having you here! Captain Jeff and Ryan had a lot of fun on the cruise with you and it was wonderful seeing the dolphins and manatee! Please come again!

We really enjoyed our stay at Pirate's Head Cove. It had everything you would need on premise. The patio/dock was so relaxing. We spent several nights having dinner on the patio/dock and relaxing next to the water. The hostess was always available to help out or answer our questions. Would stay there again!Owner response: It was a pleasure having you all here! We look forward to hosting you again!

I had the pleasure of staying at Piratehead Cove in January. I loved every part of it! From the beautiful private setting, to the loving hospitality of the hosts. it is so convenient to Key West, but away from the congestion of downtown. It is great to have the bicycles available to cruise around town. I will stay here again and again!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

This vacation home was everything we wanted and more. I'm sorry to Mr. Denver that had such a miserable time, but coming from Denver I guess you wouldn't know what a living reef was if it slapped you in the face. My husband, mother, father, and myself actually snorkled over it and saw the absolute beauty in it. There were sponges, sand dollars, clown fish, sergeant majors, needle fish, and mangrove snappers right there for your amazement. I am the individual that is actually jumping off the deck into the clear water. By the way, there is a neighbor who happens to be a commercial fisherman who sold us his fresh yellow fin snapper for a wonderful dinner. Michelle was a great host and never once harped on a "two page list". She gave us great advice on local restaurants and a lot more in the downtown area. By the by, my husband (the same individual that is snorkling over "the concrete slab") rode the bike around the entire island without incident. I will remember this place for the rest of my life. Truly something wonderful you can only experience personally.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

About the owner: Jeff is a well-known professional musician, (played with the likes of Charlie Daniels and the Gatlin Brothers), pilot and licensed Captain. Michele is a retired university professor and renowned Canadian visual artist and writer. We fell in love with Key West the minute we got here! Romance abounds, so many places to get away by yourselves. Key West is exciting! Unlimited things to do with others (nightlife, events, music, fishing, exploring). Key West is culturally rich, from the symphony to the literary fair to Sunset at Mallory Square and all the artists, performers and artisans, to the unique and diverse restaurants,.... you'll find that the only problem with Key West, is that you won't want to leave!!
Why the Owner Chose Stock Island:
Key West is home to festivals galore from Fantasy Fest, Parrot Heads in Paradise (MOTM), Schooner Wharf Wrecker's Cup, Gay Pride and Women's Fest, Lobsterfest, Yacht and Powerboat races, and arts and music festivals too numerous to mention! From families, cruise vacationers, alternative lifestyles of all kinds to weekend vacationers, EVERYONE is welcome in Key West! Whatever your pleasure, you'll find pleasure here. ~Fair Winds!~
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The best thing about PirateHead Cove is that we are close enough to downtown to be there in minutes, but we are far enough away to escape if you want to chill a bit without the crowds and noise. You can design this vacation any way you like- from staying on the yacht tor house, to the all inclusive vacation. You can bike to the beach, or downtown(one of the best ways to visit Key West and tour the gorgeous Victorian architecture) or find that unique restaurant hidden just off the beaten path! We are half a mile from the golf course, some cool local restaurants and convenience and liquor stores.
We have a beach cooler, beach towels and chairs for your use, plus 4 Cruiser bicycles, a guitar (if you play!), snorkel gear, floaties and some limited fishing gear and 2 kayaks.
You can relax in the hot tub or sun yourself on the patio. The property has enough room to sleep 6 in the 2 bedroom guesthouse, but is more comfortable for 4. Schools of tropical fish, visits by our local manatee, dolphins, and sea turtles are just some of the wonders you can see right from our patio! PirateHead Cove boasts a beautiful natural living reef, and the water is 32 feet deep and 300 feet across to mangroves and the Atlantic. The cove is a wonderful place to kayak, scuba dive, snorkel or swim. In the summer the crystal clear water reaches the high eighties and low nineties..Step off the dock into the ocean..you are right there!
