Dutch Flat cottage description
Set on 8 very private acres of majestic Black Oak forest adjoining the National Forest, the property is bordered by the Little Bear River. The dramatic canyon of the Bear River is only a short distance away. Dutch Flat is an historic gold mining community that still retains its old-time charm. There is a post office and well-equipped store. In nearby Alta, just a few minutes drive, there is a great coffee-shop and Deli.
The climate here, at just under 4000 ft, is mild and close to perfect. In summer the lofty trees provide shade and in winter we are generally (but not always) below the snow line. Opportunities for hiking, biking, skiing etc. abound.

A Favorite Getaway
We love to stay in this cozy cabin in the Sierras near Dutch Flat and Alta, Ca. The cabin is well suited for a couple or small family. It's surrounded by tall oak and pine trees. We usually see squirrels, foxes, deer and many birds. It's like camping in the comfort of a small house. We love to lie in the big hammock and read or nap, and hear the birds. There's great restaurants and walking paths on the land and hikes within a 5-10 minute drive. Roger and Monique Mendelson Berkeley, CA

Wonderful refuge in the woods
Wonderful refuge in the woods! My boyfriend and I spent Labor Day weekend here and it was a great base for activity in the Sierra Foothills - an easy drive to Grass Valley and Nevada City, or to skiing areas closer to Tahoe. The accommodations were plenty for a couple and could also accommodate more folks; the cabin is fully stocked with furnishings and kitchen items. The outside porch is a lovely place to sit and read. We didn’t have time to explore many of the nearby trails and swimming.

Why the Owner Chose Dutch Flat:
A natural progression following years of staying with close friends in Dutch Flat. The truth is, we fell madly in love with the area and we were ecstatic when we found this secluded retreat.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Solitude, tranquility and exploring the wildlife. Great skiing! Wonderful bicycling along a seldom used P G andE road that meanders 12 miles along dramatic Bear River canyon views. We have always said it's downhill in both directions, but that's an exaggeration . We love it here and are happy to share it. The Deli/coffee shop in Alta is a good place to meet some of the local characters - including real gold miners.
