Manitowish Waters house description
From our dock, you can pontoon and fish around the legendary Manitowish chain of 10 lakes. Canoe down the Manitowish River all the way to the Turtle-Flabue Flowage. Afterward, take a swim and sit in the sun on the boathouse roof.
You can take the boat to town (Manitowish Waters), poke around the shops and get an ice cream cone. The Discovery Center has a wide range of fun and educational activities.
In the evenings, enjoy a drink on the front porch overlooking the lake. Talk with the family as you prepare dinner Later, gather round a firepit blaze, select one of the many books, take advantage of our wireless computer connection or watch television in front of the fireplace. Or, if you have any energy left, you can take the pontoon boat to the ski show or the Sunday concerts in the park.
Built by Native Americans around 1930, my grandmother purchased the house in 1937. Since then we have kept the ambiance while adding modern amenities such as electricity and running water.
Enjoy our Vilas County Up North home as my family has for over 70 years.

Counting the Days to our return
Counting the Days to our return
My family and I recently stayed in the Log House and can honestly say we had the time of our life. Having grown up spending my summers in Manitowish Waters I couldn't wait to get back and after 30+ years my dream came true; I was able to show my wife and kids "home". Everything was as described and the home had such a great vibe that we are still laughing about the great memories. We won't hesitate to return.

Wonderful cabin, great atmosphere, beautiful setting, gracious hosts. It was everything we had hoped it would be. Wish I could have coffee on the boat house deck every morning! The screened in porch was excellent as well, especially at dusk when the mosquitos were out. Oh yeah - the dog absolutely loved it too!

Owner response: We were pleased to have you - particularly Duke. He is so well behaved. He also seemed to appreciate the steps which enabled him to get out of the water easily after returning from his flying leaps off the dock.

This is a perfect vacation retreat! The log cabin house is rustic in appearance but with all the comforts and amenities you would want. We're just winding up a delightful week here...a family from Madison and grandparents from Virginia. The main room of the house is very large, with the kitchen on one end and a stone fireplace on the other...plenty of room for all of us to hang out, read or talk. The best part of this place is the use of a pontoon boat...the kids loved it and we used it to explore neighboring lakes. There's a sandy shore for swimming with no mud or yucky weeds. The owners were next door and were helpful without being the least intrusive. We love it here!

Heaven on Earth
Heaven on Earth
The owner is my Aunt, and I have spent dozens of summers here. I have had the happiest moments of my life on this property. As a kid growing up in NYC, this place was everything a child could dream about: a log cabin built by indians, going to sleep hearing the wind in the birches, cooking s'mores on an open fire, swimming on the sandbar all day until our lips turned blue and Gram made us get out of the water despite our protests, playing cards and popping corn by the fire on a rainy day, walking to town to get ice cream and picking berries along the way, boating to the ski show, watching a storm come in from the boathouse roof....I could go on and on. The property and its environment supports a child's (and an adult's) imagination. There was no TV or internet when I was a kid, and we never missed it! Thirty years later the smell of pine still fills me with such a sense of peace and calm as it brings me back to that little cabin in The North Woods. I hope that many families will be able to enjoy such happy memories.

Year Purchased: 1934
About the owner: I have enjoyed more than 68 summers on Rest Lake. From the woods, I gather mushrooms, blueberries, and raspberries (don't like blackberry picking because of the thorns) are among my favorite activities. Some of my favorite memories are of canoeing and camping on the local rivers - first with my parents and later with my own children.
Why the Owner Chose Manitowish Waters:
My grandmother purchased the property in 1934. It is has been the center of our family vacation life ever since.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
It is only a short walk to the library where you can find an extensive collection of vacation reading or order a particular book. Next to the library is the Community Center host of weekly outdoor fairs and community dinners. There are tennis course and children playgrounds.
