I stayed at Nori's at the end of November, beginning of December, and the changing of the leaves was spectacular. The location is perfect for the Arashiyama station and as well to many of the most beautiful temples in the area. Leaf changing season is very popular in Japan, so the stores and streets were pretty crowded -- nice to come home to the peace and quiet of this house. The house was excellently maintained, heating and air (though not needed) in every room. Every appliance was there for cooking. The house was much better than expected. I will return!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Dear Rebecca,Thank you for your review for Nori's guest house. We are glad to hear you had a good time at there. Arashiyama is one of lovely place in Kyoto. There is goodness for each season. We hope we can serve you in near future again!

As others have commented, the pictures hardly do Nori’s house justice. It was better than the pictures indicate -- spacious, comfortable, well-maintained. Our group included four adults and two children (7 and 10), for eight days, and felt that Nori’s house had more space than we needed. The neighborhood was wonderful: quiet, yet busy with the tempo of daily life. The house is only a (very) short walk from the train station, and from there, an easy ride into downtown Kyoto. It is only a ten to fifteen minute walk across the river, to shopping and restaurants in the central section of Arashiyama, around Tenryuji. (Or even better, a five-minute early morning bike ride, on one of the bikes at the house!) Even closer is Monkey Park, which our kids felt was entirely worth the trek up the hill (even in the summer heat and humidity), and we loved the cormorant fishing on the river at night. We are convinced that the place of Arashiyama on the typical Kyoto itinerary -- a one-day trek from downtown somewhere -- cannot capture the spirit of the place. (This is particularly evident as you relax in the furo.) We spent several days “at home” around Arashiyama, without any regret at having foregone other opportunities in the heart of Kyoto. Next time maybe we’ll even go fishing! Thanks Nori, for a fantastic experience. We wholeheartedly recommend it. We will be back the next time we are in Kyoto!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Hello Kevin! It was glad to hear from you that you and your family had wonderful time in Arashiyama. Thank you for chosing to stay at Nori's guest house and thank you for your review. Look forward to hearing from you when you go to Japan next time.

We were a party of 7, ages 28-59, who stayed for 3 cozy and snuggly nights at Nori's lovely home during the coldest and rainiest spring Japan has seen in the last 30 years. Nori's home is within 100 yards of the Hankyu line Arashiyama train station, yet is very quiet and in a nice neighborhood. We were a short walk - through the adjacent park along the river - to the Togetsu-Kyo bridge. Other great sights within short to moderate walking distances were the Tenryu-Ji temple, the bamboo forest, and many other shrines as well as numerous tourist shops and restaurants. The listing photos are accurate, but as the other review said, "Don't do it justice." The house is very clean, spacious, and comfortable. The beds are large with good firm comfy mattresses and lovely puffy comforters. The home appeared to be well maintained. The appliances work well and seem to be fairly new. The "House Directions" in English were adequate. The controllers for the heaters/air conditioners were all a little different and took some figuring out. It would be helpful to add English directions for the cooktop, Wifi, and directions to a real grocery store. The management company delivered dish soap and laundry detergent promptly, when we discovered there was none. Both toilets have those wonderful warm bidet seats. We would recommend installing some sort of towel hooks or drying racks in the bathroom, as there was no where to hang one's bath towel. Our only area of concern would be for families traveling with small children or people who have difficulty with stairs. The stairs to the bedrooms are very steep and narrow in comparison to what Americans are used to. We were traveling using a JR rail pass. The JR train station is about a half hour walk from Nori's house, and we walked our suitcases there after checking out. During our stay we purchased the Kansai Thru Pass at the bus terminal outside of Kyoto station. This pass allowed us to easily get to Nori's Place via the Hankyu train line, Kyoto, and Nara. It more than paid for itself. We highly recommend Nori's place, and Arashiyama as well. It is a beautiful setting with the river and views of the forested hillsides. Nori's house was an excellent escape from city hotels.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Hello Wayen & J, Thank you very much for your review for Nori's guest house. I appreciate that you gave more details around the guset house which we sometimes cannot see when we get used to. I had passed your review on to my agent and supplied towel drying racks and cloth dryer in upstairs bathroom. The agent provided more useful guide in English. Once again, thank you for choosing to stay at Nori's guest house. Hope you come and stay there again!

This is a large, recently renovated, well maintained and very clean house in a quiet residental section, in a gem of a town. The kitchen has all new appliances. The upstairs bathroom is very spacious. The pictures of the kitchen and downstairs bathroom do not do them justice. Though the train station is nearby, we never heard trains. Nori was wonderful to deal with and has an agent in Kyoto (JapanStay). Arashiyami is just beautiful. We found it to be a welcome change from the big city. There is so much to see in this area, I'm sorry we didn't have more time to spend here. As Nori's map indicates, lots of things are within walking distance. Kyoto is accessible by train bus or taxi. Though this is a tourist area, we were able to find quiet, peaceful areas during a peak season. Arashiyama was my favorite part of our visist to Japan.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thank you very much, Gina for your review for Nori's guest house. I really glad you and your family loved there. The agent said that you and your family had taken care of the house very well. I appreciate it. As you found it, Arashiyama is a beautiful area. Spring time is the best to visit but Autumn is good as well, they is some special lights up (it called Hana Touro) in ealry December for about 10 days and some people planing to return there. Once again, thank you for choosing to stay at Nori's guest house. Hope you come back to there again.
