I just got back from my daughter's graduation & wanted to take my partner to the Coast for helping me out while I was gone & to celebrate his birthday. Our stay at Shalimere was just heavenly - You could see the ocean from just about every room in the house, even the shower! The stars at night were so bright on the deck and the neighbors walking their dogs in the morning very friendly. The home was very clean & comfortable with a gas fireplace that warmed up the whole house & many goodies for your dogs -- we really appreciated the dog bed because we forgot ours. Irish Beach is so beautiful, you can walk forever and hardly any people; there is also horseback riding activities along the beach. There are little creeks running into the ocean that dogs & kids can play in too. The driftwood on the beach is amazing & after we were exhausted from playing, we took a nap in one of the driftwood made huts! I saw that the couple who stayed before us got engaged on the beach; I'd like to get married there! The owner, Lorie is so thoughtful and left us a basket of fruit & goodies too. Can't wait to come back and will definitely tell all our friends - Thank you!

My husband and I just celebrated our twenty-fourth wedding anniversary at Shalimere. We had an amazing time! The house is clean, warm, cozy, welcoming and is truly like a home away from home. We went to Fort Bragg twice and ate lunch at the brewery and at Piaci Pizza. We ate lunch at the Pier Chowder House and Tap Room in Point Arena one day which is a must! They had excellent food and the atmosphere was great. There were people surfing and we sat right by the window so we could watch. We had planned on eating at some of the great restaraunts in the area for dinner while we were there, but the house and the hot tub were so great, we ate in each night. The only regret that we had is that we did not bring our two dogs. The house is set up perfectly for your pet, with a fenced in deck, crate, and a basket full of things for a comfortable visit! The welcome basket for us was a nice touch also. This was our first VRBO experience and it was great. Lorie, Julie and Ron are all very easy going. We will definately be visiting this property again and again, next time with our dogs! Thank you again Lorie, Julie and Ron.
Owner response:Hi Cindie! Glad you enjoyed the house so much. Julie and Ron do a great job of keeping the house in perfect condition. Looking forward to having you back with your dogs in the future. I also enjoy just hanging out and relaxing at the house and "eating in". Somehow it doesn't feel the same as cooking at home when you have the great view of the pacific to distract you from the task at hand.

We had a great time here. Everything was wonderfull about our stay. The views are great, especially on sunny days like we had in January. The provisions and greeting fruits and treats were very much appreciated.
Owner response:Dear James, Glad the weather "cooperated" during your stay. We enjoyed sharing the house with you. Julie does a great job with the "welcome basket" and fresh fruit. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the house. Take care, Lorie

My adult son and I stayed at Shalimere from Dec. 24 to Dec. 27, and had a wonderful time. The house is very comfortable -- we really enjoyed the gas-powered soapstone stove each night. The view is fantastic, especially at sunset, and the beach is a short 20-minute walk away. Check the tide tables before heading to the beach, though -- we almost lost a dog to a rogue wave when the tide was coming in. We spent one day exploring further afield, visiting a virgin redwood forest, but we were mostly content to hang out right at "home." We had an excellent fish dinner at the Point Arena pier chowder house -- fun, relaxed atmosphere with 31 beers on tap. Be smart and book several nights; we had a hard time pulling ourselves away to return to the "real world."

My family just returned from a week at Shalimere, and we are already planning on our next visit! Two very comfy beds and well-appointed bathrooms (with plenty of hot water), quality, cozy, linens, a wonderful great room/kitchen/dining area with the best views you could ask for. We loved the dog-proof wrap around deck, the basket of dog goodies and a full size washer and dryer. Lorie, Julie and Ron haven't forgotten a thing, and they got back to my (many) questions very quickly. We had a wonderful time! We highly recommend this home!
Owner response:Hi Will! Everyone loves the tankless hot water heater! It was fun having you stay. We welcome all the questions. Keeps on both on our toes. There is just so much to see and do if you want to go out or just stay in and chill in the hot tub. Looking forward to having you back anytime. Take care, Lorie

Three of us plus our two small pooches stayed over the Thanksgiving weekend. We had an wonderful three days and plan to return at the earliest opportunity. The view is magnificent and the interior was a pleasure to enjoy. Lots of nice touches to make a person's stay even more enjoyable. We ate the Garcia River Casino for Thanksgiving and the recommendation was right on. Absolutely wonderful food. Food shopping is close in Manchester and we loved that Irish Beach is out of the hurried pace of Mendocino and Fort Bragg. We'll be returning. Thanks Lorie..............
Owner response:Hi Jim, It is always great to share the house over the holidays. Julie is amazing with the "local" information on restaurants. Looking forward to seeing you back. Take care, Lorie

The two of us stayed 6 nights mid-Sept 2011; the house is lovely and nicely equipped, very comfortable furniture and queen bed in master (we didn't use the other bed). Double shower; large kitchen; nice bathrobes, views from every room. And the hot tub was wonderful at night! The view is nice but there were certainly days the fog was too thick to see much. We were disappointed in the beach itself - the sand was cluttered with huge wads of kelp which had washed up - everywhere. Not a pleasant spot to sit or picnic. Perhaps this is seasonal. The roads are very narrow and windy so we chose not to go out at night or to visit the wineries on Hwy 128. Golf was great at Sea Ranch, less than an hour away; hiking is good, Mendocino is very touristy. Would definately recommend this property for a few days.
Owner response:Hi Emily, Great to have you at the house. The storms brought all the kelp onto the beach. Not something anyone could have predicted. I was up after you in Oct and it was still there. Let's hope the winter storms take it all back. Glad you enjoyed the golf at Sea Ranch. There is another course at Little River waiting for you to try out! Smile. Hope to see you again.

We had such a good time. The house was every thing we hoped it would be. Lorie had put a large basket of goodies and a very nice bottle of wine out for us. The house is beautiful. Looking out the big picture windows at the ocean was breath taking. We took walks on the beach every day. Our two westies had a great time. Thank You so much Lorie for the use of your home. We well be back and we well tell our frieds about your home.
Owner response:Glad you chose Shalimere to celebrate your special time. Julie does a great job getting the house ready for each visit. The private beach is the perfect place to take the dogs. Hope to see you back again soon.

My little family of 3 had a wonderful time in this charming home. The house was beautiful in the pictures, but we were so surprised and estatic when we first arrived, better than expected. The home was so comfortable that there were a few days we didn't even leave the house. Our daughter, 11 years old, loves coming to Irish Beach and ask if we can come back again. We will be back!!!! Thank you so much for the goodie basket and the fabulous vacation.

what a beautiful spot to spend this special occasion. the house was exactly as pictured and described - it felt like home, only better. The welcome basket was so appreciated, as we were "starving" from the road trip from SanFrancisco. Bed and bathrooms were well appointed, the decor was truly relaxing. We loved the big kitchen and being able to see the ocean from all the windows. Everything was immaculate, and the only thing we missed was our dog. Lori's email was very helpful, but just a note: the trip from SF via 101 / 128 is VERY, VERY winding and a bit nerve-wracking. Watch for bicyclists in the summer - the roads are narrow, no shoulders, and there are too many hairpin turns and switchbacks to count. Renting a car? Get a small and sporty model, and watch for cows on some of those mountain roads!! Seriously! We met some very friendly residents who shared their knowledge of the area. Don't miss Mendocino shops off the main drag, Ft.Bragg's sea glass beach, and the redwood forests. we have trees in Central New York, but nothing like those!! We will return - and can't thank Lori and Julie enough for all they've done to make Shalimere "the best vacation we've ever had" verbatim from my hubby.
Owner response:Thank you to the Happy Honeymooners! Glad everyone enjoyed their stay. There is so much to do, it can be overwhelming. Sounds like you made good progress on some of the highlights of Mendocino County. The Irish Beach Neighbors are very warm and welcoming. The roads are all winding, so best to opt for the sports car and enjoy the trip? Worth the drive in the end, I think we all will agree! Looking forward to seeing you again in the future! Take care, Lorie Julie and Ron

The house is accurately portrayed in the pictures and the ocean view from the house is absolutely stunning. From the deck you have a clear view of the Point Arena Lighthouse. The hot tub is well situated for a good ocean view and at night we could see the lighthouse as well. The private beach is protected by a gate and spike strips and we never ran into any beach hooligans while on the beach. The house has a balanced blend of the postmodern and functional styles. The bedding had fresh sheets and there were plenty of towels for showing and hot tubing. The kitchen had plenty of pots and pans with anything that we could think of that we used regularly like pot holders and paper towels. The best restaurant we found within close distance was the Rollerville Café which had a quirky Hawaiian ambiance that felt out of place because the food was superior to most cafes in the San Francisco or Sacramento areas and stood out on its own merit. For a longer drive we enjoyed the Brewery at Fort Bragg. Dinner started at 5 and although the food was a bit slow we found it well worth the extra wait. They had stout on tap and it was the best that I've had in a very long time. We tried to visit as many of the state parks around the area but one week was not enough for everything. (Beware the skunk train pretty much takes up an entire day by itself) I had a very good time and I look forward to staying here again.
Owner response:We are glad you enjoyed the house so much. Julie and I work hard to make the house exceptional in every aspect. From amenities to cleanliness. Looking foward to having you back in the house sometime in the future. Thank you also for the info on some restaurant we have yet to visit. Now I have my updated list of things to do and check out on my next visit in late July! Take care, LB

A great 3 nights (5/30-6/2) will definitely be back! The pictures on the VRBO website don’t do the house justice, it is much more beautiful than you can see in those pictures. All the details, artwork everywhere you look, you can tell that Lorie really, really, really loves this house that she shares with others. And I really appreciated that the furniture was not old thrift store junk, it was the nice stuff! I could go on and on, the towels and linens top of the line, high thread count, the bath sundries, top of the line also, hot tub was sparkling clean, I love cooking and she had everything you could think off. You will not regret renting this place, ocean views out almost all the windows, those that didn’t have an ocean view had a forest view. And it is pet friendly! Even though I have dogs, I am reluctant to rent a place that is dog friendly because you usually get really old furnishings, stained carpets, sometimes a dog odor lingering. This place had none of that, it was truly the cleanest house that I have ever rented. I now have a few people where I know that want to rent it after they saw some of the pictures of it and have heard me go on and on how truly great it was. I kept saying, "I dream of owning a place this great and with views like this, at least I can rent it and daydream it's mine."
Owner response:Thank you for the great review. Julie is awesome at keeping the house spotless! Couldn't do it without her. Looking forward to see you back sometime in the future. LB

Everything about this warm, inviting home was perfect (even better than the description)……The location, cleanliness, ambience, the ocean view, the deck, the quiet neighborhood, the kitchen, the soapstone stove, the snuggly beds, the comfortable living room furniture, the way the home had everything we could possibly have needed to make our trip perfect.....and most of all, the owner Lorie. She is so warm, accommmodating and quick to respond to email, etc. Julie, the manager was awesome too! My sister and I visited for 4 days/3 nights for my 50th birthday. We didn't venture away from the delightful house other than to go to numerous beaches close by for beachcombing. We brought our food, and it became our comfy home away from home for relaxation, meals and simply enjoying each other’s company away from the hustle and bustle of real life. We enjoyed every moment and honestly would not change a single thing about the home. The gift basket of goodies and the bottle of champagne (in honor of my birthday) were an extra special touch. Can't wait to return to the coast and cannot imagine staying anywhere else but Shalimere! :-)
Owner response:Glad to be a part of such a memorable trip and stay. Happy birthday SS!!

We spent only 2 nights... should have booked more. The days were clear and warm great for walks on the deserted beach. The pictures of this house do not do it justice. The beds are great. We have rented extensively on the Sonoma-Mendocino coast for years and this is one of our favorites now. Very organized and well equipped. A very good value.

My boyfriend and I had a very romantic weekend here last October. We had a great time cooking and star gazing on the deck. The best part though was being able to watch the Giants beat Atlanta in the playoffs! We were able to cook and watch the game without a problem since the kitchen, living room and dining room are all open to each other. Lots of windows and the view of the ocean is truly incredible. Highly recommended.
Owner response:Hi Colleen, Always great to hear we are doing things right at the house. Go Giants!

We recently returned from our vacation at Shalimere. The property was everything and more than what it was advertised to be. This property had more amenities than any other that we have stayed at. The views were wonderful, the beds very comfortable and the beach was great. It was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable trips we have taken. We would recommend this place to anyone. The only problem we found was not renting it for a longer period of time. We will definitely try to plan a return stay at Shalimere.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Irish Beach. The owner is very easy to communicate with and the house is even better than the pictures (actually - it is WAY better). We should have stayed for the full week but we will be back. Everything was where it should be for the most part and we felt like it was our house by the time we left. Our dogs were quite comfortable and the porch was a great place to keep them safe (but don't leave unattended just in case). We used the patio furniture to keep them right by the slider which worked well. The master shower is huge and I keep describing it as if it was a car wash. Endless hot water and two shower heads! Wash, rinse, wash, scrub, rinse - repeat - spot free rinse... :) Temp control is VERY sensitive - be mindful if you've never used a tankless water heater before - it takes a few minutes to get to a steady temp then stays right there. Plenty of household stuff as listed on the description - all in perfect working order. Walk to the beach is definitely exercise but we loved it. At first the beach seemed a bit unflattering but upon closer inspection was quite unique. It was like a neighborhood made of driftwood. We hit Bear Republic (great food) and Anderson Valley Breweries on the way up 101 to 128. DO NOT take 1 thru Gualala if you can help it as it is longer & curvier. Plan on taking in more stuff next time - definitely staying a full week. Bring slippers! Two clear nights out of four allowed for some serious reflection on our world - and those around us. I saw the milk in milky way! Does everyone know there are just as many stars on the horizon as there are when you look straight up? Beautiful. Thanks Lorie (and onsite manager Julie and Ron were very helpful) Len - Lisa Brutus & Baxter
Owner response:Hi Len and Lisa plus the pooches! Glad you all had a great time. Looking forward to seeing you in the future. Working on the new pics, as you are right, they do not do the house justice. Take care, Lorie

Our family are veteran VRBO'ers. The past 2 years we have rented a VRBO home 4 times in different parts of California. Shalimere in Irish Beach did not disappoint. The location is FABULOUS. The bluffs are so close, I could through a rock over to the beach (and I throw like a girl). From the kitchen and living area, the view is hypnotic- absolutely mesmerizing. The two bedrooms are very tastefully decorated in a Zen-Asian theme, beautiful photography, tapestry, and accents. The bathrooms are spotless and the custom tile work made me drool. Hand thrown ceramic sinks, and the giant walk in shower in the master with duel shower heads and a bench...oh, Nirvana! I loved having a washer and dryer, and not having any dirty clothes to haul home. The kitchen is well stocked for those who like to cook. We were met with a huge goody basket full of treats on the kitchen counter when we walked in. On the road to the beach, we were always suprised by deer and bunnies. The beach is endless! We walked for 3 miles toward the south- never ran out of beach- but we wimped out and turned back because of hunger and fatigue! The hot tub is large, squeaky clean, and well placed- no wind, private, and good view. Lori, the owner, responded quickly to our questions prior to renting and made the whole process very smooth. Lori has local caretakers who are available if there are concerns- but we had none. Mendocino is a short drive, there are loads of good hiking trails nearby, and best of all, oodles of good small tucked away beaches. We found shells and abalone everywhere. Our daughter had a blast building beach structures with the drift wood on the beaches. I would definitely recommend Shalimere to friends and family. Thanks for sharing your home with us!
Owner response:Dear Julie and family, It was a pleasure sharing the house. Always great to hear "we are doing it right". Looking forward to your next visit!

This place is amazing. Everyting inside is so beautiful and comfortable. I have never slept so good. First thing I saw when I walked it was a gift basket with lots of goodies and a welcome note! There was some food in the cabinets, and the hot tub was already to go. I was glad to see there was a plug-in for my ipod. The drive to Mendecino is a beautiful 20 min. We saved money on dinner by buying food at the grocery store and making dinner at the beach house. Everything is at the beach house! Pots and pans, clean glasses, towles, luxury shampoo and conditioner... I had the most relaxing weekend.
Owner response:Hi Celena, Glad you girls had a fun get-a-way! The welcome basket is fun to put together. It is always changing. Hope to see you all next year.

There were so many lovely details, from food treats to exquisite bed linens. The views are splendid and the furnishings were tasteful and warm. I love the idea of all these happy people sharing good quality time together. What a wonderful spirit this house has! It was just perfect and I would definitely go again.

Words can hardly describe my appreciation for your house and your taste.... I search almost all 1-2 bedroom rental in VRBO, and your house (simply by those posted photos) and the only three of hundreds that I fond of at my first glance. Not to mention when we really see it, enjoy it by real!!! Your consideration of preparation all nearby tourist information and all the entertainment collection making us feel at home. We only hope we could stay longer.... We should stay one more day! We appreciate your style of deco very much, especially it's kind of fusion with Asian and American style, some tiny pieces of furniture showing your loving of Chinese essence (guessing). I like the layout of the house including the bathroom!! I will love to come again and for sure will refer my friends to pick up Shilamere for their vacation!! Thank you again for your hospitality!!

My husband took me here for our 1st wedding anniversary and we had such a incredible time. We brought our "kids" (2 Boston Terriers) who were completely worn out after the 1st day of playing at the private beach allowing us some good alone time to enjoy the gorgeous scenery. The hottub was a welcome retreat after exploring the amazing hiking trails near the home and down by Mendocino. Everything was absolutely perfect! Thank You!!

Wow! Shalimere was one of the nicest homes we have ever stayed in!! We loved all the wood and the windows. Comfy, but still very stylish. Deck was the best, enjoyed coffee in morning, wine in evening..afternoons at the beach. We have really become very fond of area and have been coming out last couple of years. We feel off the grid while we are up there and LOVE IT!! Kids LOVED the basket of goodies..husband and I had to hide one Haagen-Dazs to make sure we got at least one!! We enjoyed glorious weather this visit and soaked it all up. We will definitely be back! And dogs loved every second of it. If we could take our early morning walks along your beach everyday, I am convinced I would NEVER have a bad day!! I try to imagine the corn fields I walk along here are really waves of never-ending blue..crashing at my feet. It is a stretch I know. It is how I survive, one's imagination is a wonderful tool. Your home is a soul-replenisher and we look forward to future visits and hopefully much longer ones!! peace, steph burgess
Owner response:Thanks Steph! I grew up in the midwest also, so i can relate to the "field of corn" analogy! It was a pleasure to have you and your family stay at the house. The house was amazing. I loved staying here. Thanks so much!

We really enjoyed staying in this beautiful home. The weather was great and we went to the beach every day. Also, thank you for making this home pet friendly. Our dog loved it here too. In addition we also loved the ocean view. This is our 38th annual trip to Irish Beach and every year we create fun memories. Can't wait to stay here again!!!!

It was a lovely place to spend a 10th anniversary. Remarkable surroundings between rivers and ocean beaches, and I thought our Sonoma Coast was nice! Lovely home that was very comfortable.

What a wonderful beach retreat!! We enjoyed our walks on the beach, building dams at the creeks, exploring the waterfall, relaxing in the hot tub, seeing the deer, watching the birds and sitting comfortably with the family in the spectacular living room. Heavenly!! Thank you so much.

A fantastic view - that made this my most memorable birthday ever. We enjoyed the hot tub and the serenity, peace and relaxation of this community. Our only visitors were several deer, and we were constantly serenaded by the local birds. The telescope was a great item too. Thank you very much.

My husband and I stayed at Shalimere for our honeymoon back in 2003 and we've been dreaming about going back ever since! It was soooo relaxing. It was either last week of Oct or first week of Nov...but the weather was AWESOME. Not hot and not too cold. Perfect for snuggling next to the fire. The ocean breeze was so fresh and what an amazing view. We loved the panoramic views from the home. It was just beautiful. We walked on the beach, which was lovely and visited the little shops in Mendocino. Things closed fairly early, but we just cruised along the coast and relaxed. I would imagine some things are different in 7 years, but we had a great time. :) Next time, we'll bring a few things along with us for the fridge and maybe the Wii or something if we bring our daughter with us. I also think we'll do a wine-o tour when we go again. This is a place to escape and relax! We pretty much just saw deer the whole time...it was very private. :) If you are stressed out and need a nice retreat or if you want to go somewhere romantic to spend some quality "alone" time...this is the place!! As a side note, if you're driving there, cut across south of Mendocino and then drive the highway up to Irish beach...we drove in from Vegas and ended up going over the mountain north of Mendocino in the dead of night...bad idea...our brakes literally smoked! We were first timers to northern California so we didn't know... :) We definitely plan on taking a trip again soon to revisit this wonderful place.
