Thank you for a wonderful, very relaxing, week in your home! We took full advantage of the bikes, kayaks, crabbing, decks & porch. What a beautiful view! With our oldest leaving for college in a couple of weeks, this was a perfect way to spend a family week together.

Our stay in your home was amazing. Watching the ponies swim was very breath-taking. We enjoyed visiting Assateague beach and playing in the waves. Catching crabs, fishing, kayaking was without a doubt, terrific! We most definitely loved visiting Muller Ice Cream! Delicious! This week was clearly hot and the air conditioner cooled us right down. We most definitely look forward to visiting again!

The Parr-Crowdis family enjoyed another wonderful beach week on Sunrise Shore. The one constant on the coast is that it is every changing, and that is what makes it so special. As we leave we always look forward to our return.

This home provides a lovely and comfortable setting for a fantastic Chincoteague Island vacation. The views of the bay are spectacular. The amenities are plentiful. We rode bikes to the beaches at Assateague everyday, and crabbed, kayaked, and swam in Oyster Bay right from the property. This was our second stay at this property and we hope to return frequently in the years to come.

Our family has been visiting Chincoteague for over "40" years. We look forward to coming each summer with our extended family and friends. The view from the decks was by far the best we have had. We enjoyed the birds, the kayaks, and biking. We are once again sad to leave and truly enjoyed our stay in your amazing home.

This was a perfect location and all was as described in the listing! My daughter loved the crabbing off the dock and the spiral staircase to the lookout. The owner Chuck was very easy to work with and answered all our questions prior to arriving since this was our first time renting a private house. The experience was great! The only bad thing is that the fishing off the dock is not good but we had a great time crabbing there so we really didn't care. It would be a perfect location for one to dock their boat to have access to Assateague. The kitchen and grill was perfect for the many meals we ate in house! I'm sure we will be back one day.

We had an absolutely fabulous stay here in your quaint and comfortable house...we couldn't have asked for a nicer view. Our daughter had the most fun crabbing right off the dock! She and her Papa fished and crabbed almost every single morning - very diligent fisherman they are! This will be such a phenomenal memory for her and all of us! We really appreciated all of the amenities we had here. My husband and I kayaked for the first time yesterday and we had such a relaxing "stroll" in the bay...a good memory for us too! The town is so quaint and full of great food. We loved Bill's and Woody's - two great places for future vacationers to check out. Thank you so much for your gracious hospitality - we felt wlcome here on Sunrise Shore! We're sad to leave today...

Our comments would surely mirror many/most of the previous ones, but mine come from the taste of an architect. Your home has a certain 'calm excitement' about it. It is fun to live in, interesting to look at & comfortable to relax in. I've enjoyed viewing your art & studying the various interior relationships. We studied the stars from your witches walk atop the 'crows nest'. We biked & hiked - we kayak today. So to sum it up - I used my special time/ away time to the best advantage - I soothed my soul by placing it in your special home. Thanks! ps. All of us love your place

We had a wonderful time here on the island. The views from your home are just stunning! We enjoyed meeting new people at the Oysterfest, but we fell in love with them at AJ's Restaurant. What an asset for Chincoteague! Got to photograph the ponies and climb the old lighthouse But...enjoyed crabbing off you dock with a cold Bud Light the best. Thankx Again

We very much enjoyed our stay in Chincoteague. The view from the screened porch is unbeatable. We spent most of our time sitting there eating, reading, drinking and having a good time. The weather was perfect the entire week. The kayaks were great and the beach at Assateague fabulous. We would absolutely recommend using the telescope to watch the rise of the moon and Jupiter over the bay. Thank you so much for allowing us the opportunity to use your home. Everything was wonderful!

If I could stay all summer in Chincoteague, (and I would love to stay all summer in Chincoteague!) I would love it to be in this bayfront retreat. My husband, daughter and I have spent several vacations in Chincoteague. This was the first time staying in this house and it was a joy. Set on a serene little street this house is in a perfect location on the island. When we entered it was wonderfully cool and clean and smelled so fresh! I must find out what that scent was! The kitchen is well designed for cooking. We loved the screen porch and ate every meal outside enjoying the view of Assateague. What a treat our first night was watching a wild storm on the bay. The next morning we set out for the beach at 5 a.m. looking for shells. We were alone on the beach and it was so peaceful it is hard to describe the beauty of it. This house is perfect for a family with young grown kids like ours. Our 21 year-old daughter brought her best friend with her and the layout was perfect. The girls spent time in the room with the balcony and slept in the twin bedroom. This gave them lots of space, yet gave us our own private space on the other side of the house. We had our own room with a view of the bay and another little room up the spiral staircase. And what a view! The house is laid out skillfully with lots of different areas for recreation. We spent an evening playing pool and listening to music. We spent an evening playing board games in the tv room off the kitchen. We spent lots of time at the water's edge fishing, crabbing and just being silly. One huge treat was riding the bikes included with the house. I have not been on a bike for 30 years! but we spent a memorable day biking all over town. Main street is great for biking. Don't miss lunch at the Sea Star. There is also a nature trail a few minutes away (near the school) that's quiet and perfect for biking, walking, or running. The home's artwork is marvelous and so portrays the life of a "teaguer" you just want to study it and capture the memory and expression of the artist as your own. I especially love the large landscape of the marsh hung next to the fireplace. The owner was always easy to reach and we felt he sincerely wanted us to enjoy ourselves. That meant a lot to me. We are likely to stay here again. While we were all sad to leave we feel a little bit more like a part of the town we love. Thank you so much to Chuck and Sue for a lovely stay.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We loved the house, the decor, the view. We loved Chincoteague. What we DIDN'T like was the fact that we left a pretty clean house somewhat cleaner than we found it.The top dishes in the cabinet had not been washed when we arrived, we ran most through the dishwasher.(We didn't report it). each made a room by room inspection before we left and found nothing out of place and the floors vacuumed. When we arrived we opened the blind in the loft bedroom and it was obviously out of whack, we struggled to close it and not use it,.. (We didn't report it to the owners.). The bathmat in the loft bedroom was dirty when we arroved so I washed it.(Didn't report it) I am compulsive about neatness cleanliness & wiped handles, dorrknobs and the like when we arrived. The 4 adults made a room by room inspection when we left. We stripped the beds and left all the linen on the washers, we thought that was what we to do..We were CHARGED for the broken blind. and EXTRA for house cleaning. It was a very unpleasant ending to an otherwise splendid vacation. We'll be more cautious in the future. Of course we would not return to this house.

Owner response: Regardless of the renter's commentary, we are happy that they had a great time on their vacation - we always want people to have a terrific experience (A 4 of 5 star review is not bad, but... we have always had 5 of 5 star reviews before) Over several years of renting we have fully refunded renter's deposits - except on two occasions. The ONLY two times deductions were made, including this reviewer's deduction, our cleaning crew reported that they needed extra time to clean the house so that it could be ready for the next renter (there is only a 4 hour window)- an extra person was needed to get the work done on time. In regard to the blind repair - a hopeless tangle and broken cord needed repair after their visit - the deduction was for a portion of the repair cost, and we have subsequently updated our bedroom blind system to make it easier to use. All renters receive a letter, prior to their stay in our home, that detail what would constitute security deposit deductions. The deductions can be summarized in one statement - leave our house as you found it, and all your security deposit money will be gladly 100% refunded. All renters are encouraged to report, to our on island manager, any issues found during their stay. In summary, we always want to have a renter's visit to our home to be an exceptional experience.

We were here during Pony Swim Week! Sadly, we didn't watch them swim. but did visit them while they were penned. The whole Schmidt family loved the whole house; especially the lookout! We noticed the picture of the house above the downstairs bathroom. That was before the addition! Wow! And we loved how beachy the house felt. The millions of seashells and birds majorly contributed to that. Thank you for the treats left on the table in the kitchen. We ate them them the first day. We all used the bicycles to ride to Mr. Whippy's and to play basketball at the school. And the access to to water and kayaks right behind the beach was great! Also the air conditioning was very useful when the temperature outside was 98 degrees! The house is very beautiful and all the rooms make you feel at home. You did a fabulous job decorating! Can you tell we are really about atmosphere inside & out? Lovely home, ocean, sea gulls - thank you for sharing you abode! We thoroughly enjoyed every minute!

Relaxation was the name of the game this week. We biked to the beach everyday - only got in our car twice for the groceries. We swam in the bay, kayaked, took all our meals on the porch. Took in the spectacle of the full moon rising over the bay and decided to plan all our future vacations around the moon cycle. Thank you for opening your home to us. It was great - from the ride on the auto train to the hours we spent enjoying your lovely home. We followed your advice and enjoyed the wine and cheese out on the deck watching lightning bounce across the horizon. Our memories include horses and deer in the National Park and many, many meals of fresh delicious seafood, followed by ice cream at the Island Creamery! Your home is amazing - so welcoming and the decor is so suited to the area ... I felt very relaxed and quite spoiled. Thank you for sharing this remarkable place with us.

Your home is beautiful. It is warm, inviting and wonderfully decorated. The view is amazing. We loved spending time on the porch eating oysters and watching the birds come and go. Assateague beach was just perfect. The first day we watched a school of dolphins close to the shore. They frolicked and jumped and amused a few swimmers. Th swimmers told us that the dolphins never came to close but "chatter" to one another and "love to play". We also saw three ponies on the beach. We were amazed at how gentle they were. Although it was very warm for this time of year, we went swimming every day at the beach and loved it! We head home tomorrow and will certainly remember our time here. Thank you so much for the use of your home. We certainly enjoyed our stay.

This will always be remembered as the summer of the ponies. After 11 years of family vacations on Chincoteague, we finally saw ponies on the beach! Make that 3 ponies. Two mares (1 very pregnant) and 1 stallion. This was a dream come true for us pony lovers - & the pictures - they practically posed for us - were breath taking. Later in the week, my father discovered a herd of about 20 ponies making their way along the road on Assateague. The baby ponies make the best pictures! Oh and not to mention that we saw about 100 dolphins playing in the waves. They were almost showing off for us. That day Matt & I walked so far down the beach, we were the only ones around for miles. It was like we had our own private beach... or maybe we will remember this as the summer of the porch. We spent every night out there. The memories - amazing food, laughing, star gazing, sun bathing, story telling, & becoming truly peaceful - all things we will never forget. The first night we stayed there was a planetary conjunction - in other words, all the stars were aligned. I believe that those stars sprinkled their own bit of magic down on our new found paradise. We came here this week for my parents 25th wedding anniversary, and this by far was an anniversary that dreams are made of. We cannot thank you enough for letting our family stay in your retreat. I hope we will be back soon.

We stayed here the week before Memorial Day 2011, and couldn't have been more pleased. Everything is exactly as described, the home is beautiful and the views are spectacular. We have visited Chincoteague several times before and always have a great time. Chuck was very helpful and responsive in getting us set up to begin with, his wife Sue was kind enough to set out wine and cheese for us before we arrived. A pleasant surprise was that the owners were still on the premises when we arrived (as we got into town a little earlier than we thought), so we had the pleasure of meeting them and getting a personal tour of the house. They have done a beautiful job of decorating, and have an amazing collection of hand carved decoys you will enjoy looking at. What gracious hosts! If you are considering this property, don 't hesitate. Great house, great owners, great destination!

Full moon all week! Perfection! Your house is beautiful & stunning & cozy & comfortable - we spent most of our time in the screened room - pretending we were pirates on a ship - and we saw so many amazing birds - Pelicans! We took a boat ride with Captain Louie of Daisy’s Dockside & we saw dolphins, eagles & of course, horses - we caught sea sea bass, but they were too small, so we let them go. We ate lots of crab cakes & local tune from Gary Howard Seafood, very fresh. The beach at Assateague is so beautiful, we loved our time there, it is so pristine and unspoiled. Thank your for sharing your gorgeous home - we hope to return soon! p.s. I have a new appreciation for decoys - who knew they we so cool! They truly “go” with the house!

Our week was very much a vacation. We enjoyed your home and were amazed that even on the last day we were discovering decoys and lighting we hadn’t before. We were very comfortable with everything provided and the view from the house was awesome. Truly the best name because every sunrise was gorgeous! We biked at the Assateague park and kayaked to Morris Island We enjoyed cooking here and had the freshest and best seafood from Gary Howard. No one else can match the freshness. Going out to diner we found the steam samples @ the Chincoteague Inn the be wonderful . There is so much to explore on this island I think we will have to visit again. Thank you to the Maddox Family for opening this beautiful home for other to enjoy. Take care!!

Wonderful home, welcoming vacation home owners, gorgeous location! My mother and children had a great time staying at this lovely home. The use of the bikes and kayaks was a definite plus where my kids were concerned. And the fact that Chuck and Sue were so nice as to set up my mother in the the TV room - even making her bed - was so very thoughtful. Thanks so much for opening your home to us! From the moment we arrived to see a mommy duck with her six tiny babies swimming behind her, to the last night’s fabulous fireworks, its been magical. We hate to leave and can’t wait to come back!

Wonderful place for a family getaway

We stayed at this house in June for our first time at Chincoteague. We loved the house and the island. The house is everything you'd expect from the description, and more. Very comfortable and secluded with wonderful views. The area is a wonderful place for low-key family fun, just what we were looking for.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

April 24, 2010We are so delighted to have been the first guests at this lovely and lovingly designed home. It is hard to imagine that there are any better views anywhere on the island, and we drank them in with the wine. Thank you for all the windows, the books, the art, and the music. It’s true…you never forget how to ride a bike! It was a wonderful way to discover the refuge and to remember to be a child again. The kayaking was also great, and we just sat for a while on the marsh and listened to a world without the noise of men. Priceless! Perhaps T.S. Eliot would not have maligned April so, had he stayed here! The only problem is leaving.The Masons'Spring 2010Newark, DE

This is an amazing home with a beautiful setting! It was perfect for my daughters 16th birthday getaway with a few of her friends. The house is even better than the pictures show. We come to Chincoteague every year and this has been the best place we have stayed.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

February 15, 2010Mr. & Mrs. Maddox,Thank you so much! Everything was wonderful! Your home is beautiful with a terrific view! Saturday we both went around town to the shops, and played “Death by Chocolate”. We won a Vera Bradley handbag - it was a fun experience. We went to dinner at AJ’s and the food was great! Thanks for the recommendation. We went to Bill’s (I believe it was called) tonight for dinner which was wonderful also. Once again thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home - my Valentine’s Day was amazing!!Thank you Again,Adrianne and Storm

Renting a home on Oyster Bay

I have had the privilege of staying in this magnificent home for many years, in several different months. It has always been my favorite vacation spot. You'll want to wake up at 6:30 am to watch the sunrise over Oyster Bay. Unforgetable. The home is spacious and the room arrangement offers privacy to each couple. Every member of my family wants to return just to this spot. Take your choice of activities: Sitting on the deck reading, sunbathing or watching boats go by, or crabbing in the bay or kayaking, renting a bike or moped. There is so much to do in Chincoteague. You will never lack for adventure with shopping or great eating out or hiking through the wild life refuge. And you'll see wild ponies there too, maybe on the road or even on the beach if you go out early enough. This house is a short ten minute drive to the beach and ocean. On every visit, we ritually return to all of our favorite places and stores on Chincoteague Island. Staying at any other home wouldn't be half as enjoyable. Sorry, you can't stay the week of May 22nd. That's when we're going again this year. .
