We have been visiting Maine every year for the past 12 years (since we first discovered the Bar Harbor area) and I have to say that this was our best vacation yet! The home in Surry was simply amazing. It had everything we could possibly want or need. With 4 generations of our family on this visit, we didn't feel the least bit cramped! There was space for everyone! I awoke each morning to the most amazing sunrises while still laying in our bed. My grandchildren loved combing the beach each morning looking for sea glass and sea critters, my husband took the kayak out and it was a perfect spot for biking for the whole family (being on a quiet street). We played basketball, made Smores at nite in the fire pit, relaxed in the Hot Tub, and had family pool tournaments. Yet, we were less than 30 minutes from Mount Desert Island, so our days were spent enjoying that amazing Park! The homeowner, Mike, was the perfect host, greeting us upon our arrival and making sure we had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. I used to think that staying on the Island was the best location, but now I truly believe that renting a home off the Island is a better choice, as you get to see so much more of the wonderful Maine coast and all the special little harbor towns. I would highly recommend this home to anyone who wants a special place for their "Down East" vacation! WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I spent a little under a week in this beautiful home and I wish I had taken more time off to spend at this stunning home! We had an amazing time and can't wait to return next year!! The owner was very welcoming and has a very well maintained property. We all had plenty of room to each have time to ourselves. The views were stunning! We made use of every part of the property and throughly enjoyed our trip. There isn't anything more we could have asked for...maybe other than more time to spend up there! My friends and I are already anticipating another trip up to Surry next year! I would highly recomend this vacation home to anyone that loves to be directly on the ocean and have a relaxing vacation. Can't wait to come up next year...thank you Michael!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had family coming from up and down the East Coast. When we booked there was some grumbling that it was too far North. There were 8 adults and three children younger than10. Everyone could not believe the beauty and peacefulness this property offered. First of all the tide pools were wonderful for all. There were more hermit crabs and wonderful shells that the grandchildren and adults enjoyed. The beach was fantastic. At low tide you had over 50 feet probably closer to 100 feet of beach. At high tide there was about 10 feet of beach. The water temperature was great, around 73 degrees, and that is coming from someone who lives in Florida. All of us enjoyed the kayaks and canoe. The house and property were wonderful. As other reviewers have said, Mike was just a super caring person. One simple instance: There was no ice in the automatic ice maker when we arrived. Told Mike and within 15 minutes we had six bags of ice in our freezer. The next day the freezer worked fine. I can go on and on about this place. There is every possible utensil and appliance in the kitchen that you can think of. The towels are thick and fluffy, everything about this place was top notch. I would highly recommend this place for a family, school, fraternity, sorority, business reunion. It is close to Acadia National Park, and many interesting costal harbors that are a photographers delight. We even got lobsters at $3.25 a pound for any size. It was the perfect reunion for us. Again I would like to thank Mike for being a gentleman and perfect agent/owner of this property. If we can we will be back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

This trip was a chance for me and my brothers to give back to my parents for their 50th Wedding anniversary and this house really delivered. The house was clean and well stocked with fun things to do. On rainy days the kids enjoyed the x-box connect, pool table, and the board games. We had fun sticking around the house to play basketball, yard bowling, and even a little kayaking. There was 12 of us in total and the house provided enough space that we never felt crowded. We boiled lobsters for the first time in the lobster pot provided. The location allowed us to visit Bar Harbor and Acadia park just about every day. The schoodic area was beautiful. Plenty of restaurants close by as well. Whale watching was a real treat. Michael the owner was always accessible and pleasant if we needed him. My husband gave the ultimate approval by stating this was the best vacation ever! I would come back to this house in a heart beat.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Our family moved from MI to MN a couple years ago. We wanted a fun reunion with a couple special families we missed. After much looking, we decided on ME. The house and amenities are what sold us and we were not let down upon arrival. There were three families total with 4 members in each family. The house and views were beautiful and there was always something to do. Our kids loved the hot tub, basketball hoop, fire pit, kayaks and canoe, beach, yard to play bocce ball, football and baseball. There was a place a mile down the road with fresh lobster....we went there at least three times and brought it back to eat. My husband and I ran 3 miles in the morning along the road with the water in site the entire time. My husband also used the bikes to exercise and explore as well. The property was clean and well maintained. The landscaping and gardens were beautiful. It was peaceful for me to get up in the morning with coffee and walk around enjoying the view of the house, water and landscaping before everyone else got up. The owner was exceptional. He arrived at the time of our check in and showed us around. He brought us supplies that we were low on the next day. Michael understands customer service and he's the reason I'm taking the time to write this review. He deserves it! Our families also went hiking at Acadia National Park three days. I had no idea how beautiful it would be and how much I would like it. We did go whale watching in Bar Harbor. 3 of 10 in our group did get sick on the ocean. I was the worst and will never do it again. For those that didn't get sick....they said it was well worth the money and they saw plenty of whales and were thrilled. I do have to say the boat was awesome at cleaning up the messes. I don't know how they do it, but they are good at it. We spent at least three days/evenings in Bar Harbor as well. That city is cute to walk around and buy souvenirs. Great prices on t-shirts and sweatshirts. Great places to eat. Lots to see and look at. One day we went putt-putt, go-carting and wall climbing for the kids in Ellsworth. We were able to find any and all groceries/toilietries in that town as well. At the end of each day it was great to get together at the house and play games and/or watch movies. This was a memorable and wonderful vacation that we will treasure forever.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

My family and I have just returned from a wonderful week in this beautful home. Eleven of us (aged mid-50s to 16 months) and two dogs traveled from Maryland, Indiana, and Washington State, for a mini-reunion. I searched for weeks to find a rental that could accommodate all of us comfortably and allow access to all of our must see sights and activities. This home was perfect for us. With six large bedrooms, each of us had our own space. We used the provided pop up crib for our youngest. There was a shaded indoor/outdoor dog run for the pups. All of the bedrooms and baths were nicely furnished, super clean, with plenty of linens, pillows, and towels. Though it was hot some days, we kept the windows open and used the provided electric fans to stay comfortable. We also used the TWO new front-load washing machines almost every day. The views through the huge windows that are all over the house are amazing. Everyone in my family is a serious cook. I exchanged several emails with Michael, the owner, prior to our arrival to insure that we would have all of the equipment we needed to not only feed everyone but to show off some special recipes for each other. Both kitchens were immaculate, with up-to-date appliances, lots of storage, high quality pots, pans, utensils, bakeware, serving pieces, etc., everything a truly devoted foodie could want. We also made good use of the gas grill just outside the kitchen door. Ellsworth and many farmers markers are convenient for groceries. We stopped once at Perry's to get amazing lobsters, and picked up very good pizza and subs from the Surry General Store on the night we arrived. My uncle, an avid photographer, traveled up and down the coast to get pictures of forts, boats, light houses, wild life, and some amazing sun rises and sun sets. We played tourist and whale watched in Bar Harbor, enjoyed the sights at Acadia and Ft. Knox, shopped for pottery in Blue Hill, and antiqued at many many little shops along the way. We had the most fun, however, being together enjoying the amazing entertainment system (sirius radio, satelite tv, on demand movies, kids and adult DVDs, XBox), the pool table, games and toys, and of course, the beach and beautiful grounds, including the amazing hot tub, at "our" house. This was definitely a vacation we will never forget! Thanks again, Michael. We can't wait to come back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Our trip to Maine to stay at this wonderful home was our best vacation ever. Michael the owner went out of his way to make sure everything was perfect. The home was in immaculate condition, the property was beautifully landscaped, and the weather was gorgeous. We took several day trips into Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and down US Hwy 1. We ate at some wonderful restaurants and saw the beautiful coastline. Michael had plenty for us to do on the days we stayed at the home. There were movies, games, kayaking and canoeing, basketball, a pool table, a hot tub, and an awesome view to just sit down and enjoy. The home had everything anyone would need to have a comfortable and stress free stay. I would give my highest recommendation to this vacation home for anyone looking for a beautiful getaway to the coast of Maine.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

Our trip was wonderful from the time we pulled up, until the time we left. This is the perfect home for anyone who would like to explore Maine. We had a large group of 7 adults, and 4 children, and there was more than enough room for everyone. We loved the proximity to Acadia, and we couldn't get the kids out of the water! We had planned a lot of day trips, but there would be no reason to leave the house. We especially liked the canoes, kayaks, and basketball hoop! The owner is very attentive, and provided a lot of helpful literature to plan our trip. We would definitely return! Thanks again for a great summer trip!Did you find this review helpful? We really enjoyed our trip and the house was perfect. Our group included 7 adults, a teenager and 4 dogs. The house was big enough that we never felt crowded. Michael, the owner, made sure everything with the house was perfect and was great to work with. For pet owners, this is the perfect place to stay. Our lab wandered over to the beach for a swim whenever she wanted. The dog run was great as well. We brought our dog crates but never needed to use them! We will definitely return!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with teenagers.

I have rented a number of homes in the Blue Hill area, and few can top this house, particularly if you have small children. The home is very well appointed, from everything you need to cook a meal, to numerous games, movies, and other activities for children. Our children also spent many hours exploring the beach, which is right outside the door and can be seen from the beautiful deck. Also included are kayaks, bikes, cable TV, and good WI-FI. The home is about 40 min from Acadia, 15 min from Blue Hill, and 45 min from Stonington. Perfect location for various day trips. Finally, you can purchase fresh lobsters right up the road at Perry's, and can pick up fresh vegetables from Morgan Bay Farm 5 minutes away. Michael, the owner, will do everything he needs to make your stay perfect. A little secret - try to stay during September. The weather in Maine is probably at its best at that time, but the crowds are gone.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.
