The 150-acre Sawtooth Valley Ranch sleeps 12 and offers about the most picturesque, tranquil setting that one can imagine and is easy to get to, just minutes north of Sun Valley via Highway 75. With panoramic views in all directions, it inspires, refreshes and quiets your soul. In the summertime, you can sleep with the windows open and hear the brook as it meanders its way to the stock pond. Stroll the grounds with a cup of coffee in the stillness of the morning and realize that this is how we were meant to greet each day. Take a rocking chair on the back porch and watch the ranch horses suddenly pick and race across the pasture, just because they could.
The Ranch is situated in the heart of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. They say that the Sawtooth Valley is “the West the way you’ve always imagined it would be.” On one side are the jagged Sawtooth Mountains with peaks towering to 10,000 feet and on the other, the White Clouds with peaks to 11,000 feet. The ranch is situated in the middle of the Sawtooth Valley, which runs about 20 miles long and one to two miles wide. Running right down the middle of the Valley at the foot of the ranch is the Salmon River. There are over 50 high alpine lakes within five miles of the ranch and too many creeks to count.
At the northern end of the valley, and 12 miles from the ranch, is Stanley -- the staging area for rafting the Salmon River. At the Southern end of the valley, about 12 miles from the ranch is the outpost of Smiley Creek. Just 50 minutes south of the ranch is world famous Sun Valley which offers fabulous skiing, golfing, trap shooting – you name it, they have it.
MAIN HOUSE (Sleeps 8)
The two-story main log house has been featured in Log Home Living Magazine and offers drop-dead views of the Sawtooth Mountain Range from every room in the house. The cozy Great Room has two facing sofas, antique wagon wheel chairs and a massive stone fireplace with game table. Adjacent is the dining room with log table that seats 10 in comfortable padded hickory chairs. The kitchen is off the dining area and has stainless steel counter tops and stone back splashes. A guest bathroom is off the hallway.
The master bedroom and bath is downstairs with private deck and spa. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with twin beds and the other with a queen and twin bed. There is a full bathroom upstairs along with a loft and another twin bed.
GUEST BARN (Sleeps 4)
A pathway over a stream connects the main house to the barn with its guest quarters. Upstairs in the barn is a two bedroom guest quarters and full bathroom. One bedroom offers a log queen bed and the other offers two twin beds. Downstairs is a family room with satellite TV and DSL connection.
Both the Main House and Barn are furnished in western antiques, log furniture and Ralph Lauren and Pendleton fabrics and bedding.

Year Purchased: 1996
About the owner: My wife and I built this ranch in 1996 and visit it often with our children. I publish two magazines, one called Working Ranch and the other, Pacific Coast Sportfishing. My wife is an artist and often paints plain air at locations near the ranch.
Why the Owner Chose Ketchum:
We were looking for a ranch property that was close to Sun Valley, Id., but not too close! We wanted to be able to drive in for golf, skiing or dining but wanted to feel like we were away from all the "busyness" of town. We were also looking for a location that offered fabulous views and a large stock pond for fishing or swimming and plenty of recreational activity right outside our front door! We also wanted to build from scratch so we could put our own imprint in the log home. We found it! And you will enjoy it very much too!

What is so nice about this ranch property is that it is very relaxing and soothing, yet if you want lots of activities and action, it's all right there too! There is so much to see and experience with so many hundreds of miles of great hiking or riding trails right outside your door. Terrific fishing right from our pond or from the Salmon River which runs along the foot of the property. And you won't believe the views from every room in the home!
