This lovely home was built in the 1920's when this small Florida town was close to becoming the original "Hollywood". Film stars flocked here to build stately homes along the beautiful Cotee River. Our house was built by a banker and investor named George Sims who used to entertain film stars visiting and re-locating to the area. Ed Wynn, Shirley Temple, George Gershwin, Joseph and Rose Kennedy among others used to arrive in town to fish, socialize, golf and take in some sunshine. Gloria Swanson built a lovely home along the river and her "family crest" still adorns the stucco walls of that house today. Gene Sarazin, the "Tiger Woods" of his day, designed and built a sumptuous Golf Course Country Club that stretched along the river to Babe Ruths' house.
Ed Wynn officially opened the Hacienda Hotel which used to cater to the arriving stars, investors and other notables. The city now owns this historic property and plans on converting it into a high end hotel and shopping area..it is directly across the park from Sims House. Numerous murals located throughout the town celebrate Mr. Sims and those long ago Film Stars who were household names in their day. Sim's House has honey colored, Dade County heart pine wood floors and a covered porch. It has just been re-painted inside and out and refurnished for your pleasure and enjoyment. It is "Old Florida" with AC/Heat and Internet service.

This is a totally awesome cottage. It is quaint, comfortable, clean, and so many other adjectives. We spent two wonderful months here. Every day was a special gift. The owners are so helpful and caring. They were quick to supply our every need. There are so many great restaurants in the area. Several are within walking distance of the cottage. We highly recommend the Market. The sunroom is perfect for catching up on your reading and relaxing. Sims Park was a special added treat for our 4 year old granddaughter. My husband loved the front porch. He spent many hours relaxing and reading there. I would definitely recommend this to family and friends. We felt very safe and secure there. The view of the Cottee River was beautiful. We considered ourselves very blessed to have found this gem of a rental. We will be back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Riverview cottage. It was so comfortable and the owners went out of their way to make our stay the very best it could be. We found it a very pleasant place to walk and many mornings we stopped different places for breakfast. Only 15 min from Tarpin springs which is a great place for shopping and lots of neat Greek places to eat. We took home baked goods for evening dessert. They were outstanding. We sat on the porch and read and watched the people go by. We hope to go again. Jim & JeanDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 8/8

The Unique Benefits at this House:
Relaxation..pure & simple. Watching the boats pass on the river and flocks of gulls following schools of fish on the tide. One guest of ours used to "ritually" remove her watch and escape from time during her stays there. We're only the 3rd owners in nearly 90 years and have appreciated our quiet times there. Area beaches are about a 20 minute drive away. There are numerous Golf courses in the area and the fishing is great.
