VILLAGE HOUSE IN GOULT
LUBERON VALLEY
VAUCLUSE
PROVENCE
Goult is a pretty medieval fortified hilltop village surrounded by vineyards and orchards, 39 km due east of Avignon and 14 km north of Cavaillon. It overlooks the northern plains towards the Plateau de Vaucluse(with Gordes in the distance) and towards the Luberon Mountains to the south. It is situated in the Luberon Valley which is within the Luberon National Park.
At the heart of the village is the 12th century buttrassed Romanesque church of Saint-Sebastien with clock tower and small campanile which takes a commanding position in the Place de la Liberation. Higher up and towering over the village is the Chateau de Goult with its old drawbridge and watch-towers.Further up still and you come to the restored windmill from where you get superb views of the surrounding countryside and other villages dotting the Luberon.
The well restored buildings that seem to grow up out of the living rock are built of the same natural stone. The narrow lanes are walled with stone and some times solid rock, with arched doorways and vaulted passages. One 14th century porte is in its original state.
There is good local shopping in the village including a general store {epicerie} two butchers, a boulangerie, café and two restaurants. It is close to all places visited by Peter Mayle in his book A Year in Provence. Goult itself was mentioned on a number of occasions.
This typical Provencal three story stone village house with beamed ceilings and terracotta floors has been beautifully refurbished and decorated. It has very comfortable furnishings-a combination of new and antique.
The house is situated high up in the village through the watchtower and within the chateau walls with lovely views over the village and surrounding country side from all rooms. Parking is possible at the front door.
The ground floor living room is open plan with a large fireplace , comfortable settee and chairs, TV, DVD, VCR, dining area with four chairs and a fully equipped kitchen to one side. Leading off this room is a large south facing terrace which with its outdoor furniture and barbecue is the ideal place to eat out or lounge in the shade of the prolific grape vine.
Upstairs there is a double bedroom and very modern shower room with twin basins and toilet. On the top floor is a twin bedroom and storage area. In both bedrooms there is ample hanging space for clothing ,chest of drawers , bedside tables, lamps and clock radios.
The house is only a few minutes walk from the local shops so you can amble down and buy the morning baguettes and croissants for that typical French breakfast.
There is good heating for all year rentals.
Situated in the cellar are a washing machine ,dryer and full ironing facilities.
All linen and towels are included.
Television with access to BBC, CNBC, CNN and French channels and a telephone for local calls are also included.

To wake in the mornings and look from my bedroom window over the Luberon Valley with its misty grey and sage green peaceful vista is a tonic to commence the day. The sounds of silence here allow me to be still in my mind and ensure a rest cure from the past year. There is very little vehicular traffic It is totally peaceful. It is a place to where, if you choose, you can live the simple life and that is why I have been here 3 times and will return. Even in winter, the sun can often provide sufficient warmth to sit on the terrace off the living area to allow us to linger over some of the delicacles from the boulangerie. Or after a day of exploring the area - the lavender fields at Abbe Senanque, Avignon, Fontaine de Vaucluse, the markets at Apt etc, to watch a DVD or just reminisce about the day in front of the open fire is heaven on a stick. Goulthouse reeks with character and history as it is located in the battlements of an old chateau. It has been tastefully restored. Just to the right is the beautiful, stone windmill that is a landmark and from there you can walk to the terraces and see the old, stone bourees. The most sound to be heard is the crunching of footsteps on the cobblestones from the day visitors who choose to explore the regions beyond the village. It is a very popular walking area. Simple mornings of walking 5 minutes to the village centre and choosing the breadsticks, pastries and creamy French yoghurt for a long and leisurely breakfast and planning the day. Choose to eat locally in the village or even to drive to the coast at Cassis, for lunch ... Provencal food is an experience on its own. A holiday at Goult house is the perfect way to wind down after a busy year or to have a peaceful end to a frantic sightseeing holiday elsewhere in Europe!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Why the Owner Chose Goult:
After reading Peter Mayle's 'A Year In Provence' I stayed in the same village where the house is. So enjoyed the food, wine, local markets, historic and natural sites of the area, I inquired about the value of the properties in the area. Was in the right place, at the right time, to get such a wonderful house with such an amazing outlook over the Luberon Valley from every floor. I stay there for six weeks every Dec-Jan.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
To be able to stay in such a solid, old house with modern amenities and outstanding views. No hidden add on prices. Agent is just 200m away from the house in the same village should you require any assistance. Closeness to such amazing sites:-Gordes, Ilse Sur La Sorgue, Senanque Abbey, Fontain De Vaucluse etc. Wonderful local restaurants, markets, interesting little villages.
