The cottage is in our backyard with its own street and parking. We built this little cottage to live in while we built our house. We've finished the interior and exterior with some classic reclaimed materials. The exterior is finished with hand-split cedar shake reclaimed from an older home here on Ocracoke, and pine, that was reclaimed from the pony pens after hurricane Isabelle had her way. The interior walls are finished with beadboard reclaimed from an old hardware store in Winterville, NC and barn wood from a tobacco curing barn and a pack house in Winterville, NC. Hardwood floors and Oak cabinets.

It features an open design with a common kitchen and living area, which makes it very comfortable for two. The sleeping loft is up a ladder so, for those of you not as nimble as you once were, there is a futon, that sleeps two, in the den area. The outdoor shower is a must for any beach cottage, built from wood reclaimed from the pony pens. There is also a shower indoors. This is a very unique space that we love and we hope that you will too. This cottage rents sunday to sunday. Children 12 or under can be negotiable in addition to the 2 adults. Renters are responsible for their own linens...bed and futon are a double size. We have only 1 parking space available.

Thanks -Laura and Kevin Hardy.

We had a wonderful time staying in the cottage even though it was just a short two nights. The cottage was perfect for two. Kevin answered all of my questions and concerns promptly! I would definitely recommend staying here.

We both really needed a vacation and wanted to spend Christmas far away from people. We could not have chosen a more perfect location. We were there during the off-season so almost all businesses were closed. The the island itself was peaceful and beautiful and the air crisp. We took a couple of night walks, but the bikes made it much more fun and feasible to explore during the day. Even though we really enjoy being outdoors and loved exploring the island by bike, we were extremely drawn to the clean and cozy cabin, where we rested, cooked, and watched movies from the totally awesome VHS collection! The description and pictures on the website accurately represented the property, although they do not convey all of the really cool little details of the cottage's construction (this was a nice surprise, though!). The owners were very helpful, accessible, and friendly, but in no way intrusive. The kitchen was small but we prepared all of our meals (including a big Christmas dinner!) every day for four days and had all of the equipment necessary. We did, however, bring a lot of our food supplies with us from home (Durham), which was probably a good idea since there are no major markets on the island. We would definitely go back during any season and have already recommended the place to friends.

This is a perfect couples' retreat on the Outer Banks of NC! Although the place is small, it is so charming and has everything you need. It's within easy walking distance of several great restaurants, a coffee shop, the light station, and Springer's Point Nature Preserve (which we highly recommend). In addition, two bikes were provided, completely eliminating the need for a car while in the village. The property was clean, well-maintained and as described in the listing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are already planning our next trip! If you're coming toward the end of December (we were celebrating the New Year during our stay), don't miss the Ocracoke Working Watermen's Oyster Roast at Ocracoke Seafood. It's a fundraiser for the Ocracoke Foundation, but the fish stew, HUGE delicious shrimp, and roasted oysters were well worth the $20/plate price! They also had homemade desserts and wassail at the Working Watermen's exhibit afterwards. It was a wonderful event supporting a great cause. Seafood in several Ocracoke restaurants (Pony Island and Jason's to name two) is literally caught, prepared and served within 24 hours - you can't beat that fresh taste! Lover's Retreat is highly recommended, especially if you are looking for a simple, cozy, quiet getaway.

Staying here NOW! We fought gale force winds (tornado funnels all around), dust storms, and driving rain to get here, but it is SO worth it! Ocracoke in general and this cottage in particular are a treat and a relief for tired bodies and weary souls. Compact, but very functional with a nicely equipped little kitchen for basic cooking chores. Plenty of room for two travelers with a two-year-old. Nice adjacent outdoor seating and a hammock. Within easy walking distance of local caffeine spot, Ocracoke Coffee, an absolute must. Easy drive to local dining, groceries, shopping (Ragpickers!) and, of course, the beach! Make sure you catch one of the pony feedings. Wi-fi included; a plus. A big thumbs-up for the cottage, which was built from reclaimed materials, giving it such a charming character, and to Kevin for going well out of his way to locate a room when we managed to arrive a day early!

My fiance and I stayed here for a night and loved it. It was just big enough for two people. It was very clean and the little heater put out great heat after it got going! The free bikes were a must and we took full advantage of using them to galavant all over the island. We hope to be back. This is a unique little getaway! Dinah and John

We loved our trip to Ocracoke and definitely plan to return! The cottage was perfect! We loved the outdoor shower, grill, hammock, bikes, video collection, and of course the beautiful craftsmanship of the cottage! It was the perfect setting for our time away from our hectic jobs! The cottage is very clean and well maintained and the owners were really pleasant to work with. We took the bikes to Lifeguard's Beach...about a 10 min bike ride and it was great...we liked this beach better than the beach by the airport because cars weren't allowed on the beach. We also loved Ocracoke coffee, which is just a few minutes away from the cottage. We highly recommend checking out Zillie's on Back Road if you need any yummy snacks or if you just want to have a glass of wine on the deck. You can't go wrong renting this cottage!

What a lovely cottage, so clean and comfortable. Thank you for sharing it with us. We were only at the ocean almost an hour and saw dolphins frolicking in front of us most of the time--it's been that kind of special week. Laura and Kevin, you are wonderful hosts, and we'll be back. I look forward to my next massage in June! Again, thank you, so much.

This is the perfect cozy nook for couples that love Ocracoke and its simple, laid-back lifestyle. It's tucked away in the center of the island, and while other homes are nearby, still feels like you are in your own little world. Kevin and Laura have supplied ample creature comforts and the space itself, while small, is warm and appealing. They've also supplied a nice outdoor space, complete with grill, because we all know we spend most of our time on the island outside and on the beach or bikes! The sleeping loft is very groovy, but if you have trouble with low ceilings and ladders, I recommend you sleep downstairs. You're never far from great places to shop and eat on Ocracoke, and this cottage is walking distance from Ocracoke Coffee and The Back Porch Restaurant, and the bikes will take you everywhere else except the beach. Kevin and Laura are gracious hosts, and have created an adorable little get-away that I can't wait to get back to!

Owner response: thanks for those kind words. I'd like to add that there are lot's of people who do bike to the beach from the village. The "lifeguard beach" is just a 10 min pedal away with bike racks provided for locking up. Kevin,
