I couldn't have been more pleased with my stay. You will find yourself in the middle of a working ranch and ranching area. A beautiful, relaxed base for your vacation in the area. On the road to the south entrance to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, you'll be there in minutes. Have a leisurely breakfast and still be at the park mid-morning. By the way, your breakfast will include fresh eggs provided directly from the chicken coop not far away. Let me say that you will not experience even a whiff of an odor associated with ranching or farming. The air is fresh and clean, if you are wondering. The cottage is rustic, cozy. A wonderful balance of western and homey with many very nice touches. The cottage is well maintained, with new vanity and shower in the bathroom and a new sink and faucet in the kitchen area. Everything is in working order. The furnishings are solid and comfortable, especially the bed upstairs. I liked that there were two types of pillows to choose from. There's a new flat screen TV with Dish Network if you just can't miss your favorite show. My hosts, LaurieAnn and Garry, were very helpful and outgoing, yet not intrusive at all. As I said, the cottage is cozy so be sure that if you're traveling with friends, that you're all good with sharing the one bathroom and the open layout. There's much more than Black Canyon NP in the area. South on 550 is Ouray, a wonderful old town just on the edge of red rock country. East on 50 are even more natural recreation opportunities and just beautiful. I would have loved to have tried my hand at fly-fishing if I'd had more time. You'll pass numerous cyclists both on the road up to the park as well as in the park itself. Montrose is a good-sized town where you be able to find anything you may need. I can honestly say that I don't have one single complaint about any aspect of my stay. Young kids will love the variety of animals around the ranch. Please, do yourself a favor an have a unique experience at a reasonable price in the Black Canyon Cottage at Elk Ridge.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children.

My husband and I along with our two Collies spent three great weeks at the Black Canyon Cottage on the Elk Ridge Ranch this August 2012. We had a grand time and will never forget the beauty on that ranch and surrounding areas. It is all and more of what is shown in the beautiful website. The cottage is darling and so are the owners!! It was so easy to get to and I will recommend it to all my friends who love to visit the West. Thank you Gary,Laurie Ann,Sammie ,Cows,Bunny rabbit and horses for a wonderful vacation. My wife, our two dogs and I spent three nights at Gary and LaurieAnn's guest cottage in early Oct 2011. We found the accommodations very comfortable and the scenic and peaceful surroundings just the setting we hoped to find. Easy access to Montrose and to Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. We spent one afternoon fishing the Gunnison River in pristine surroundings and caught and released several large Brown Trout. Gary and LaurieAnn provided helpful suggestions on places to visit. We regretted not giving the area more time and plan to visit again. We give the Cottage at Elk Ridge our highest recommendation.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.
