We only stayed at this wonderful house for 2 nights, but wished we could be there longer. It was so comfortable, immaculate, well-equipped, warm, and had everything we needed. John was so helpful recommending restaurants, and places to visit. There were opportunities for walking in the area, and many other sights to visit including the Burren and Cliffs of Moher and Liscannor. We definitely would recommend this place to anyone. The booklet that John had assembled showing maps and things to visit was especially helpful. Thanks again.

This rental is fully deserving of a five star rating. Pictures, although accurate, cannot do justice to the charm of this home. First, the location. Gort is a great location to base out of to see the west coast. The town center and nearby town of Kinvarra offer all the amenities we needed. There were terrific restaurants ( Gallery Cafe, Keoughs for fish chowder, O"Grady's) a well stocked grocery, convenient ATM, and of course, fine pubs. The house is close to both towns, a great golf course, and located near the highway to enable seeing the Cliffs of Moher and other sights. We took a bus from the main square to Galway for one day, 40 minutes and 10 Euros return fare right to center city.. The setting of the house is fantastic. The two sweet donkeys in the adjacent yard were fun to visit and they loved the tiny apples we offered them. The area is very quiet, except for the cows, and easy to find, even on the darkest of nights. The house was much larger than we had anticipated. Our group of one couple and two singles enjoyed having our own rooms and bathrooms. The kitchen was fully stocked and we were able to cook meals without wanting for anything. We enjoyed the fireplace in the living room a lot, and spent our late nights playing scrabble and cards around the dining table. The house was surprisingly warm on our chilly October nights so we barely ran the central heat. The remodeling job on this old school house is remarkable. Beautiful wooden trim, stained glass windows, natural stone floors. Large windows let the sunlight flood in and offer a wonderful view of the area nearby. The antique furniture and very soft bed linens were a pleasure to enjoy. The showers were all excellent and plenty of hot water was always available. We have rented many properties through VRBO, throughout the world, and this is one of the best. The price was an incredible bargain for the space, setting and amenities. I would definitely rent this property again, in fact, it would be a strong factor in bringing us back to Ireland again.

Our family of six (four adults, two children) had a wonderful time staying at the schoolhouse. The owner was a terrific help and a lot of fun. We had one snag while there and he immediately took care of it. The house is just as described -- beautiful, clean, warm, spacious and comfortable. The location was ideal for us, too. While out of town (read: quiet and peaceful) it is close enough to everything you could want/need (pubs, restaurants, grocery stores, playgrounds, golf). And it served us well as a base for several day trips in the area. Finally, yes, the donkeys are as described -- a huge hit with the kids. We would highly recommend the house to any of our friends.

It is rare that an accommodation excedes its description, but this school house is one of those exceptions. We stayed there for one week with four adults and two young children (5 and 1.5 yrs). The home is secluded yet an easy driving distance to many wonderful places to visit. We had a very rainy week, but spending extra time at this house was always an appealing option. Also, we had not planned on spending a lot of time in the nearby Burren itself but for John's enthusiastic recommendations. Luckily we didn't miss out on this unique region right on our doorstep. The home itself is spacious and cozy. Our urban kids could not get over having a pair of donkeys at the back doorstep all week long. We ate at Keogh's Pub and Linnanes's Lobster house in nearby Kinvara and would strongly recommend both. I wouldn't hesitate staying hear again and hope to someday!

My family of 6 (we and our 4 twenty-something children) thoroughly enjoyed staying in this fantastic, charming, spacious, fully functional home. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Everything we needed was provided. The kitchen was great - had everything we needed to make our own meals. We especially enjoyed spending evenings in the great room by the fireplace, having breakfasts on the back patio, and wandering over to the thousand+ year old monastery ruins about 1/2 mile up the road (Kilmacduagh). Our only regret was that we were out of the house every day driving and sightseeing, so didn't get to spend more time relaxing at the house. Every one of us (including our college aged children) fully recommends this place for your stay in Ireland.

We very much enjoyed staying in Gort at this beautiful house. Our family of four (two college-age daughters) used this as a terrific base from which to make great day-trips, including the Coole Park and the Yeats tower (the latter closed due to flood damage, but can walkabout outside). the Cliffs of Mohrer, the Aran Islands, Galway, Connemara, the Barrens, and Kinvarra traditional boat festival. The house is also a wonderful place to just hang out when you need to relax! John and Brid were very helpful and recommended several terrific places to visit. Some of our favorites included the Gallery Cafe in Gort, the Barrens Perfumery, and Linnane's seafood restaurant in NewQuay.

This was the perfect beginning to our trip in Ireland with our 3 children. We absolutely loved the 18th Century School house in Gort! It was immaculate, spacious and had all modern conveniences that made our stay peaceful and comfortable. The owners greeted us with friendly and informative enthusiasm. The children loved the donkeys and the space to run around. If we come back to Ireland, we will definitely stay here again for longer than one week. The house was a perfect location to tour County Galway. This lovely house was the nicest accommodation of our one month Europe vacation. Thank you for making this a memorable stay! Sincerely, Liz and Hans

I've waited a lifetime for my trip to Ireland and celebrated my 30 year anniversary with my husband and our 2 best friends in John and Brid's wonderful home. We arrived and were greeted by John and Brid on this exceptionally beautifiul piece of property. If it weren't for such a beautiful countryside to explore, we could have easily spent our 4 nights simply enjoying this gorgeous home away from home without ever leaving the property. We were all awe struck as John gave us the tour of his and Brid's schoolhouse. To say the least it is amazing as are the Casey's. From the homemade bread and jelly that Brid left for us (delicious and thank you again Brid) to John's helpful suggestions (we too enjoyed our dining experience at The Gallery Cafe) to our trip to Kinvara and a morning of golf for the husbands as us wives hung out with "Dominick and Danny" (the 2 sweet donkeys that I named after a Danny Kaye Christmas song "Dominick the Donkey" - which, by the way, were an unexpected and added treat for us). I will always have a special place in my heart for Kilmacduagh - the first of many ruins that I laid my eyes on. These ancient structures along the lush green rolling hillside have been calling out to me for years. We cannot thank you enough for sharing your home and country with us. Everything was beyond exceptional and I don't want to wait another lifetime before I return. You and your home truly made the 1st part of our 3 part journey (we also stayed in Dingle - beautiful! and Dublin) a gift to my heart. Thank you so very much John and Brid, we hope to see you again some day.

Our party consisted of 3 adults on our first trip to Ireland but hopefully not our last. We spent a week in the school house. John could not have been more helpful from the moment I inquired about the property until we drove away, our enchanting journey sadly over. The house is delighful. It's comfortable, warm and inviting. John was there to welcome us and gave us several suggestions as to what to see and where to go. He had a wonderful book made up full of brochures on local sites. We took his suggestions and saw many things we never would have if it had been left up to us. The donkeys (we named Fric and Frac) became our great friends and may be gracing my Christmas Cards this year. We traveled from Galway to Cork and each night when we returned, we felt like we were coming "home". We enjoyed the hospitality from the residents of Gort and spent a lovely evening in O'Donnel's Pub listening to traditional music. We did not meet Brid until the day we left. She is as wonderful as John is and we wished we had had more time to spend with her. Both John and Brid treat you like friends, not strangers. We could not have asked for better "landlords". Our only regret is that we were only there a week. We visited London and Paris after we left Gort but nothing compared to the wonderful time we had in Ireland. I would go back in a minute and stay as long as John and Brid would let me........If you get the chance to stay in this lovely house and to meet the Caseys.......by all means do not let that opportunity go by. Thank you John and Brid for an unforgettable experience.

We spent 4 idyllic nights in this stone schoolhouse. The home is gorgeous! It was sparkling clean and warm thanks to a great heating system and a wood stove. John had firewood and milk for tea waiting for us. The 2 donkeys in the pasture were great fun (they love white bread). The beds were comfortable, even for those of us with 'bad backs". The seaside village of Kenvara is lovely. Make certain to eat at least once in the Gallery Cafe in Gort. We dream of returning to this magical place. Our thanks to John for a fantastic experience. We'll always remember your special song!

5 adults from South Florida stayed here in May 2011. The house was just as pictured, we couldn't have asked for nicer accomodations!! John Casey was friendly, kind, and had lots of information about the history of the house and the area. The location was a perfect spot to see the Cliffs of Moher, The Burren, Galway, and flying out of Shannon airport couldn't have been easier!! The surrounding areas were beautiful. John recommended our eating at The Gallery in Gort, and we liked it so much we ate there twice in our four day stay. Gort is a nice size town with ample food shopping for supplies and away from "tourist traps". My husband enjoyed the Gort Golf Course, less than a 1/4 mile away, and reasonable priced. If we visit Ireland again, we definetly would not hesitate to stay here again or to recommend it to anyone we know that is traveling to this area. We were all sad to leave and would have liked to stay a month here!!

Just back from a weeks stay in this property. Everything about it was superb, it is beautifully restored with wonderful attention to detail. The owners were more than helpful, and suggested lots of places for us to visit and places to go walking. We found the house the perfect location from which to visit the scenic areas of counties Clare, Limerick Galway and Tipperary. We eagerly look forward to our next visit and would have no hesitation in recommending this property to our friends and family.

Our family had a lovely holiday in Ireland and our stay at this home exceeded our expectations. The pictures on the website depict the house very well. It was very warm and comfortable and family friendly with each bedroom having it own bathroom. A full kitchen and the washer/dryer were a big plus as we didn't have to pack as much for our long travels. John Casey was extremely easy to work with and very helpful with questions. He made the process of arranging accommodations at a long distance very easy. I would recommend this to anyone looking for spacious room and wanting to explore this part of Ireland. Thank you John for everything.
