Come experience the simple life in this rustic all wood home on the banks of the beautiful Pamlico River. Having a Wedding in Washington or nearby Greenville? Family reunion? Book your guests here. It's just a 6 minute drive from downtown 'Little Washington' and about 25 minutes from Greenville, N.C. It is approximately a two hour drive from the Raleigh airport (RDU).

Have fun on the huge front lawn throwing a frisbee, a football,or enjoying a game of badminton. You may want to relax on your own private pier and watch the sunsets every night. Hatteras Hammocks between trees await an outdoor nap on the lawn or you can swing in the hammock on the screened-in front porch while others play board games on the long picnic table. This house is situated at the end of one of the unchanged neighborhoods in Washington. It is not only on the River but it is also surrounded by a canal where you can throw in a fishing line. You will need a fishing license! But you won't need a license to relax!! You won't find a place like this on the river. It's rustic and down home. I invite you to come and experience a moment in time where life is simpler and all you need to do is smile.

There are four bedrooms which include 1 King, 2 Twins, 1 Queen and 4 Full beds. Therefore, it can sleep from 8-10 people. Also there are two bathrooms, one with the original claw foot tub!

If you need water toys during your stay, contact McCotter's Marina (252-975-2174) down the road where they've never met a stranger. Ask for Mark Henley and tell him you will be renting my River House. He has jet skis, kayaks, sailboats, motor boats, or a pontoon boat. Look them up online! Don't have a computer? Call me and I will help you contact McCotters Marina.

I am looking forward to assisting you in your vacation time, so give me a call and I will tell you all about the wonderful things awaiting you in 'Little Washington' where history was made and we like to preserve it!

We stayed at the Shady Banks house this past weekend with 5 adults and 2 toddlers. We were in town for a family weddding and this worked out great for the small children. Hotel rooms would have been a disaster. Fabulous front porch, hammocks and front yard along with the pier. Having grown up in Washington, I was totally familiar with the area and the location of the house which is quite private. Very nice "old fashioned" river cottage. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

When I walked through the front door I felt immediately relaxed. I liked the peaceful surroundings, visiting historic Bath, watching sunsets and picnicking on the pier. I also loved downtown Washington with it's delicious eateries and charm. There seems to be always some kind of entertainment going on. Best of all was sitting on the screened front porch at the house listening to the rain. Can't wait to go back!!

What a delightful almost two week vacation we had in this river cottage! We used to live in Washington and this was the perfect spot for our family and extended family to stay and reconnect with old friends! The cottage is very clean and there is plenty of room for lots of guests. The setting is perfect for family fun....we enjoyed swimming, crabbing and kayaking in the river and the children also enjoyed playing outside in the huge grassy yard. We also loved catching the river breezes as we sat and relaxed on the screened in porch. The house is just a few minutes from downtown and there are so many fun places to go eat and shop and stroll the waterfront. Our stay was very comfortable and relaxing and good old-fashioned rustic river fun! The owner was very accommodating and a pleasure to talk to about renting. We will definitely stay there again!

Owner response: Bravo !!! You are the perfect tour guide! Yes...there are many things to do and see in Little Washington but the best place on the "Rivah" is my cottage.....right? Hope to be able to help you again when you plan your next vacation to the place you want to come back to...Washington!!! Dreams do come true. Don't forget to wish upon a star.

Family members had a wonderful 5 days at the cottage while there for our son's wedding. Everthing was as promised except the house was more completely furnished than expected. The young people enjoyed swimming, crabbing and kayaking. There is already talk of a reunion at the cottage in the future.

We loved our stay in this cottage! The kids loved playing in the river or just running around in the huge back yard and we enjoyed seeing the sun set over the pamlico.

Our family stayed on this beautiful site for a family wedding at The Yankee House (great house). The owner was most gracious and was very helpful in making our stay most enjoyable. The house was rustic and well maintained in its original format and as described by the owner. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. There was ample space for everyone. The yard was very large with plenty of room to stroll without fear of our granddaughter falling in the water. The hammocks were wonderful, especially with all the peace and quiet. The weather was perfect. We would certainly entertain the idea of returning for another visit. Washington was within easy driving distance and offers a variety of shopping and dining. We strolled the city one morning and enjoyed the sights. Thanks for making our vacation a success. It was like having the family at home. I would certainly recommend this area to a friend or family. It is on the Pamlico River, so families enjoying water sports would feel right at home.

Owner response: Thank you for your gracious review of your stay in my River House where one gets to experience a little piece of Heaven. I appreciate your kind words.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our mini reunion on the water in Washington NC during the hottest week in June. Fortunately, the air conditioners worked and the river was available for swimming and sailing. The occasion was a grandson's wedding with time between events relaxing at the Pamlico cabin. The owner was very helpful as was the Marina which provided laser sailboats for our Colorado kids. We would certainly recommend that spot if you have an occasion that takes you to Washington.
