Custom designed executive home with 4,000 square feet of comfort and cozy spaces featured as an exclusive home in the Crooked Tree Arts Center home tour. Extensive use of cedar shake and natural stone on the exterior with lots of paneled wood and wainscot on the interior to give this home the true "Up North" retreat feel that helps our visitors relax and escape the stress of the city.

In a unique setting, located just south of the narrows to the West Arm, this lot sits in a wind protected area of the lake south of Hoffman Point that is generally calmer and less choppy on windy days -- great for smaller children who will enjoy using our small boats. The natural mix of woods and sun with nearly 1.4 acres to roam makes this a great setting to enjoy Walloon in one of the most desirable areas on the lake.

First and second floor master bedrooms, total of 4 bedrooms and extra sleeping areas in the finished walk-out lower level and multiple window seats. Comfortably sleeps eleven in beds with room for 4-6 more in futons and day beds. There are 4 full baths and one half bath, with various hardwood and understated tile. First floor master has large his and her vanity areas and jetted oversize tub for two. Designer open fully equipped kitchen and dining area. The finished walk-out lower level offers an extra refrigerator, sitting area with television and laundry facility with convenient direct access to the attached garage.

Outside, you will find a nicely integrated large wrap around blue stone patio and 2nd floor deck provide for added options to enjoy conversation, meals and views. When venturing to the lake, enjoy the water access from the beach or the generous dock with sunning area. Make arrangements to rent one of our two boats or bring your own. There is plenty of parking for trailers and vehicles in our long driveway.

On the inside, sound enthusiasts will enjoy the semi-modern audio visual features. If you want 42" plasma TV and state of the art home theater, this is not your place. For those just looking to relax, read and interact with family and friends, you won't be disappointed. For budding audiophiles and those just wanting to enhance the background sound ambiance, the 8 zone music system should meet the need to set whatever mood fits the moment, whether it be relaxing by the wood burning fireplace or engaging in family games and conversations. Two televisions are available with full cable, DVD and VCR, recently added broadband cable modem internet access. Music lovers will like the option to connect an iPod or XM Radio to the stereo system so others can enjoy the sound inside or out on the patio.

Ideal Vacation Home on Walloon Lake Near Petoskey

Year Purchased: 2000

Why the Owner Chose Walloon Lake

We chose Walloon Lake after trying vacations on Lake Charlevoix, Burt Lake and Lake Michigan. The combination of natural views across the lake of undeveloped land, trees, hills and great water sold us this most beautiful lake in northern Michigan. We love the location on the lake, too.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Custom cedar shake home with lots of family gathering spaces and private nooks to curl up and read. The water is calm and lake quiet for early morning and evening kayak rides to watch the sun rise and set from a lake level view. The wraparound stone patio is a great place to enjoy morning coffee or breakfast -- as the sun goes over the house, there is warmth in the late morning, but shade in the after noon as the hillside trees provide protection from sunburn. The lake area has both sun and shade, so everyone can be happy depending on where you move the chairs. Portable bonfire pit for great night time gathering around an open fire.

A
Sand Bar and Protective Cove

Enjoy the protected water just south of the narrows of the West Arm. Hard pack sand make for fun on shore or playing in the water.

B
Bear Cove Marina

On lake access for gas, boat rental and ski/wake board lessons.

C
Walloon Lake Inn

Enjoy excellent ambiance and featured seafood. Drive in or use their dock and enjoy a moonlit cruise home.

D
Walloon Village General Store & Deli

Boat over for light groceries or snacks for the kids. Try the Pink Loon -- a favorite specialty sandwich!

Owner's Map of Walloon Lake

We bought the lot after our then 8 year old daughter tested the water to make sure the sand was hard and kid worthy. We designed the house with our architect, Rich Bos, who has done many Mackinac Island and Northern Michigan homes. We built on the "Up North" plan (double the time and budget) -- finally finishing in 2000. Our pleasures include boating to the foot for lunch/snacks at the Village Store and then floating on the lake, kayaking, sailing, tubing, hosting a BBQ and entertaining on the wraparound stone patio or just hanging out down by lake in the hammock and chaise lounge chairs with good conversation and our favorite beverage.
