Hacienda de los Caballos
This is a beautiful Spanish style hacienda with a tree lined driveway, desert landscaping and a pasture and corral that were once used for horses. The estate sits way back from the road not revealing itself; it is very private.
There is a magnificent courtyard and a heavy wooden door that opens to Saltillo tile flooring and ageless furnishings in a grand living room. The focal point is an enormous bee-hive, wood burning fireplace.
There are double doors that urge you to enter the walled back courtyard with a table for outdoor dining, chairs for sunning and reading, and a 35 foot pool with spa. The outdoor area beckons you to stay outdoors all day long and maybe even all night long for star gazing; for meditating; for exploration of inner thoughts. This is also an area for festivals; for celebrations with your new found friends in Borrego Springs, for reunions.
But wait, go back indoors. There is a large dining area, which is open to a cook's kitchen. This is a place for laughing, for drinking good wine, for being at one with the smells of food being prepared. This is the gathering place. And, as part of the tiled kitchen counter tops there are stools to keep you close to the kitchen and for morning coffee.
On the other end of the house there are three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and doors that open to the patio and a private master bathroom. At the far end of the hallway, there are two other bedrooms one with a queen size bed and the other with a full size bed, and there is another full bath. The decor and style of the home is hacienda style creating a relaxed and tranquil environment.
And finally, the pasture and the corral and the old vegetable garden. This is the place for evening walks, for the sunsets around the perimeter of the split rail fencing. You could even sense being among the caballos that used to call this place home. My wild guess is that they were stallions that held their heads high and waited impatiently for a romp in the desert just beyond the pasture.
You actually have a 360 degree view from this hacienda and you do have privacy. Yet, Hacienda de los Caballos is just a few minutes south of town but is out of this world. In fact, the owner calls this her spiritual retreat. You can, too.

I almost don't want to write a review since I don't want others to discover this incredible rental. My wife and I stayed for an extended weekend in Feb. 2013 and had a fantastic time. The house was clean and had everything we could desire. It was too cold to go swimming, but the jacuzzi was ideal for relaxing and looking up into the star-filled sky. The property was quite private, yet only minutes away from the downtown area of Borrego Springs. We can't wait to stay again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful stay at this peaceful, private retreat. It totally lived up to it's discripition. My wife and I especially enjoyed stargazing at night while swimming in the beautiful pool. The house was very clean and nicely decorated.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.
