Welcome to the ultimate homebase for mountain adventure and relaxation! 'The Firehouse' is a distinctive second story flat on South Main Street and is a perfect Buena Vista base camp, particularly for larger groups and families. Imagine, 2 minutes after stepping out your door you could be walking by the river, riding a cruiser bike around downtown BV, rock climbing, whitewater kayaking or enjoying an IPA at Eddyline Restaurant and Brewery. That's hard to beat, and that's why we call South Main home!
You're centrally located for skiing, 50 minutes from Monarch, an hour or so from Ski Cooper and 1.5 hours or less from resorts like Copper Mountain, Vail and Breckrenridge. Plus there's great cross-country skiing in the mountains just west of town or up in Leadville!
This comfortable flat can sleep up to ten guests. The master bedroom sleeps two on a queen bed, and a twin futon can sleep a third. One of the guest bedrooms sleeps four on two sets of bunk beds, while the other sleeps two in a queen bed and can accommodate one on a twin futon. An open kitchen/living/dining area, meanwhile, is perfect for group meals and socializing.

This place could be nice. It has potential. BUT there are some major drawbacks. The furniture really brings this place down. I'm not pickey by any means but when there are stains on all the furniture it begs the question of...sanitary? The blue chair pictured has stains all over it from excessive body fluids. The tan chair pictured is darn near broken and hard as plywood. The couch pictured can hardly be considered a couch and I'm pretty sure there were bugs in it (which kinds ill leave to your imagination) because one was crawling on me while trying to relax. The tv stand is merely a crappy table covered in a bed sheet. I'm pretty sure the furniture was picked up free from the roadside...or reused from a college dorm. The beds were fine however...but don't expect much privacy or rest. The curtains in the bedrooms are sheer...and as such are see-through. There are no blinds or anything to block out light or peering eyes. And one of the biggest disappointments is that this place is advertised as a three bedroom. This is absolutely not true. Yes it has three rooms with beds in them...but the room pictured with the bunk beds has no window, or door! It has a curtain instead of a door...again a see-through curtain. So don't expect to have the luxury of privacy in this "bedroom". In addition this curtain room is directly across the hall from the second bathroom. So plan to be woken up each time someone visits the bathroom in the night. Finally, the windows open up from the bottom. And there are no screens. So if you have small children and would like fresh air...be very careful! A child could easily fall out. Again this place has great potential. It is obviously a newer construction with nice finishes. With some nicer furniture, privacy curtains, and an actual door on the "third bedroom", it would be worth the money. As it is right now...I would definately rent something else.Owner response: Hi Erik, Thanks for your feedback, and sorry that you found the property to be unsatisfactory. We haven't had complaints about the furniture before, but we'll certainly investigate further and replace as necessary. As for windows, it is important for future guests to know that they can actually be opened from the bottom OR the top. You’re correct that the existing window coverings appear, at least from the interior, to be somewhat see-through. This is in part because they are designed to let lots of light pass through. They actually do a surprisingly good job of blocking views into the flat. Also, the window height, approximately 16 feet above the ground, provides a bit of built-in privacy as well. Again, sorry that you found this property to be unsatisfactory. All the best, Andre

This was the fourth time we have stayed in "The Firehouse Loft" in South Main. The first few times we overlooked the lack of adequate window coverings on all windows and the uncomfortable pillows and mattresses in favor of the location/convenience of this rental property in BV. It is close to grocery store, has an adequate kitchen space and is about 40min. to Monarch Ski Resort and 20min. to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. HOWEVER, this visit, we brought along a family that was new to the "South Main Experience", and they complained of uncomfortable mattress and no privacy due to skimpy window coverings AND they were bothered by noisy neighbor through the wall behind their bed. And all four kids slept in the bunkbeds but several complained about how uncomfortable they were--poor quality mattresses and chilly room temp. In fact, everybody was feeling "chilly" at night. We hope that the owners of this property will finally invest in coverings for the windows and high quality mattresses and pillows and linens. Unfortunately, we won't likely return to this property until these issues are resolved.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers.

We shared this flat with another couple for the weekend of the BV Bike Fest. Its a great location (just around the corner from the Eddyline Brewery/Restaurant) and close enough to downtown to walk or bike in for coffee/dinner etc. The place was very nice, clean and spacious. It has a full kitchen and living/dining area which was very nice. I would definitely stay there again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

The Firehouse was way bigger and nicer than expected. Close enough to go to Skicooper and hit some of the sites around Buena Vista. Will be coming back to South Main.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The apartment was spotless, beautiful, comfortable and well equipped! Beds were comfortable, bathrooms were exceptional and the kitchen was more than adequate. We had fun cooking and entertaining. Dustin and the rest of the folks were there to accommodate every need and made our stay perfect. Our son got married in the park on Friday afternoon and it was just beautiful. We felt like we had the full support of the whole area.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This huge apartment had a nice private enclosed entrance that made it easy for us to park our jogging stroller and child backpack carrier downstairs. For those of you who are adverse to stairs (we are not), there are a serious lot of them to get upstairs. Gorgeous, well-equipped and well-laid out kitchen. [The owners are also quite nice as they purchased a blender for us last minute so that we could make babyfood!] We loved the convenience of the w/d. The location was great.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

First off the people at South Main made it their mission to help give us (my coworkers and family) the best vacation ever. Even before we booked Dustin @ Southmainco was very accommodating. He told me about the area and answered any questions promptly. The property itself is a home away from home. The property is located near the river and also near EddyLine Pub. I highly recommend this place to any that is traveling in the area.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
