Quietly nestled on the Shawangunk Mountain ridge facing the Catskill Mountain Park, this rustic, cabin-like studio is minutes from the Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk Preserve hikes and surrounding villages. The rental is situated in the Hudson Valley near New Paltz and Rosendale (which offer a variety of mountain shopping, restaurants, and recreation) and the Rondout Valley farm communities of Stone Ridge and High Falls (each with fabulous restaurants, antique shops, farm stands, and outdoor opportunities).
The large sunny studio sits on a wooded lot on a quiet road. A variety of wildlife can be viewed through the long windows, enticing renters to trek further into the nature. Sit outside in a chair and enjoy the quiet solitude and clear starry nights.
Combined with the open floor plan the wood stove creates a lovely heat that warms the soul (the cabin has propane heat as well). Brand new kitchen and renovated stone and raw beam constructed bathroom. There is an additional double size bed that can be set up for parties of more than two.
Close to ski mountains. Hike or Bike down old carriage trails. Swim in the rushing Rondout Creek or jump off rock cliffs into pools of water. Enjoy fall foliage sightseeing, or hiking through autumn colored rail trails. Some of the best rock climbing in the world. An hour and a half long train ride from nearby Poughkeepsie will take you into New York City for day trips.
Owners home is also on the property.

My husband and I celebrated our first year of marriage in this place, and the owners, the property, the chickens and the dogs and the garden all just added to our wonderful experience. Would recommend in a HEARTBEAT!!!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, pet owners, sightseeing, adventure seekers.

This is a great cabin in a very nice rural neighborhood. It was perfect for a week of climbing in the Gunks. It has great WiFi and cable TV. It's only 10-15 minutes from the Minnewaska State Park Preserve. We would go back again without hesitation.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers.

Very spacious little one room house with loads of windows to let in nature, almost hate to call it a cabin. Nice combination of rustic feel with modern conveniences like AC, heater, wireless, cable and DVD...plus wood burning stove and comfy bed for those curling up on those chilly nights (we didn't need it but imagine it would be toasty.) Shower is huge, with a glass wall and river rock floor that makes you feel like you're showering outdoors, even though you have complete privacy. Our hosts Nicole and Chris were very warm and welcoming. Plus its nice to find a place that welcomes dogs...ours had even more fun than we did since they hit it off with the owners pup. And not to mention its a great value for the area with convenient access to some of the best trails and rock climbing in the area, not to mention an relatively easy drive to Woodstock and New Paltz. Would definitely stay there again!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: I met my husband Chris while studying communication at Rochester Institute of Technology. We have both worked for nonprofit organizations for over a decade and have published a variety of magazines. I am currently the Executive Director of Children's Media Project, a nonprofit arts agency in Poughkeepsie, NY. And Chris is a Master Gardener who takes care of local properties, from gardening to carpentry, with his new business Country Wisdom Caretakers.
Why the Owner Chose Kerhonkson:
We moved to the Hudson Valley after traveling around the US and Canada because we love the natural beauty and the great little towns with wonderful restaurants. We now spend as much time as possible in the surrounding mountain trails and swimming holes, with our two young children. We really enjoy all of the farm stands and focus on local shopping. Each season in the Hudson Valley is more beautiful than the next.
