Loved Aftermath! We (2 couples) celebrating a 50th BD stayed almost a week at Aftermath. Everything was wonderful. You can easily walk down to the beach and watch the waves (watch out for the sneaker waves-they do exist) or stroll along and search for seaglass (we found 1 piece). We drove down the road to Goats beach and through a little beach hike saw harbour seals. We did a small wine tour of Sonoma county and ate at fantastic places--I highly recommend the breakfasts at the Garden Grill (on the way to Healdsburg) and the Cafe Station at Point Reyes. We shopped the farmers market in Santa Rosa (it was great) and picked up fresh greens for our salad, and steaks to grill. We ate supper at the Union Hotel in Occidental the night before we left and were sad we didn't find it earlier in our trip. It was fantastic. We did the cedar spa treatment at Osmosis Spa. I thought it would be a little hokey-but it was incredible. We loved it. Each night after exploring for the day we would return home to Aftermath and relax either in the hot tub or chill out by the fireplace. I would definetly return to Sonoma County and Aftermath.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks so much for taking time to write a review Renee. You offer wonderful tips about how to spend quality time on our beautiful Sonoma coast! We hope we can share Aftermath with you again in the future. Beth

My husband and I had a memorable and amazing stay at Aftermath. The house is charming and authentic with all the coziness of home. It is apparent from the moment you step inside that there have been many generations of love lavished on the cottage, from family members to a multitude of returning guests! Above and beyond, though, you cannot duplicate the view and setting. It is just unbelievable!! You are on the edge of the bluff overlooking one of the most dramatic and interesting beaches in California. Sitting in the jacuzzi and looking out over that expanse just takes your breath away. We were there during an especially strong wind storm and watching the ocean and waves lash the shore was spectacular. It was so cozy inside with the fireplace going, listening to the wind howling! This is a wonderful place from which to explore the area. You are close enough to Bodega Bay but not bothered by the constant flow of tourists. There is great food all around you- Terrapin Creek, Spud Point Crab Co. to mention a few. This is certainly a place where memories can be made and we are happy to be looking forward to our return as soon as possible. Thank you Beth for everything!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This was our first visit to "Aftermath" ... and while standing at the airport waiting for my luggage, the owner calls! I wonder to myself, "is this a good call, or a bad call"? Beth was informing me of a few small glitches, all outside of her control ... but she definitely had then under control. She kept in communication with us until everything was fixed, without being bothersome, a great host. Now to the best part! This place exceeded my expectations. I would recommend it to young honeymooners for a romantic getaway, as well as late year anniversary celebrations, and even small families. Aftermath allows you to make it what you want. My husband and I (married 28 years), met our daughter and her husband (married 1 year) for a much needed vacation. We live in Wisconsin and they live in Montana, and we hadn't seen each other since Thanksgiving. By the way .... our son in law is a Math teachter! We love cooking, playing cards, reading books, watching the sunset, walking the beach, etc. Aftermath gave us that home away from home ... to do just that. But at the same time, we were within easy driving distance, and took advantage of that, of many interesting places to visit. We drove north to the little town of Elk for a great view of the coast and lunch at Queenie's Roadhouse. We drove south to Point Reyes for fresh oysters from Drake's and visited with the owner about the history of the area. Drove through the Russian River valley area and toured a few vineyards near Calistoga and St Helena one day ... drove through Petaluma and toured a few vineyards near Napa on another day. Great food at Lucas Warf near by in Bodega Bay. A hop, skip, and a jump ... and we were in Armstrong Redwood Forest. I am a horse owner and talked my family into riding at near by Chancelor Ranch. Beautiful views from their property, wranglers were very accomodating, horses were super quiet. Would recommend to non-horse owners to give it a try. I have to admit, someone else's horses are never as fun as your own. All in all ... absolutely fabulous vacation ... and "Aftermath" played a big role in that. Thanks for sharing with us.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Upon entering this cozy, well appointed cabin the one word you would say is, "WOW"! The view is spectacular and the accomodations are wonderful. This was our first but not last visit to "aftermath". We are from the Northern California Valley wh usually travelled to the Oregon coast every year. Not now....we have found a closer if not better place at the beach. Thanks, Beth for the wonderful stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: So glad Aftermath and the Sonoma coast converted you! We'd love to have you back. - Beth

By this time I've lost track exactly how many times we've stayed at "Aftermath", but it's always wonderful. A new gate to keep the dog in the front yard (THANKS!), new furniture in the largest bedroom and to my amazement when we arrived Beth (one of owners) was in the house grumbling that she had been unhappy with the internet speed and wanted to make sure it was adjusted before we arrived! Repairs happened ASAP and I was even more impressed with how cared for guests are in this one of a kind home. Can't wait until our next stay!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, people with disabilities, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks Gail! Looking forward to having you back again. There will be new sofas!! :)

For us, having the coast right outside a wall of windows made this cabin a truly incredible place to rest our eyes for a wonderful few days. Watching the wild and beautiful Pacific in the sunshine and in the rain, from a silvery moon-set to orangey-blue sunset was everything we could have hoped for. But wait, there's more ... ! We went wine tasting on the way in and enjoyed glasses of our bounty in the hot tub at dusk. Best of all, our beloved poodle was happily allowed to be there with us and he (and we) enjoyed many romps on the beach immediately below the cabin. Every aspect of our experience at the "Aftermath" left us considering the next dates for our return. Thank you Beth and Bill!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

It's hard to imagine a year without coming back to Nichols Cabin (how our family thinks of the spot). It's heartwarming how the family always has updated or refreshed part of the house, so it never, ever feels like a traditional musty 'vacation rental'. This time we appreciated the new refrigerator (with ice maker!!), fresh paint and new bedroom and bathroom fixtures and furnishing. The spirit of the family from the first owners in 1955 to now continues to be warm and welcoming. Pictures of the views never do justice to the reality - the ocean is a mere whisper away and the ever changing view is always fascinating. And for a change, Edie's garden, always full of fresh blooming flowers provides another reason why we love this home so very much. The only thing difficult about Nichols is when you have to leave - but that's why we always make a reservation for the next year, before heading home, so we know the next visit is coming up soon!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks so much Gayle. It is a pleasure sharing our cabin with great folks like you! Beth

We walked into the front door of this charming cottage in this incredible location and were overwhelmed by the view before us. The house is on the bluff - right on the ocean. The sound of the waves and the spectacular, panoramic view are more than can possibly be conveyed by the pictures on this site. The house was spotlessly clean and all of the amenities were waiting for us. The beds were luxuriously comfortable with beautiful linens and excellent mattresses. The house is cozy with curl-up comfortable sofas and a toasty fireplace. We took advantage of the fully stocked kitchen for a peaceful dinner at home one night. The house is very private and the owner is remarkable helpful and lovely to deal with. Highest ratings all around.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We are not newcomers to beauty and charm of the Bodega Bay area. We’ve been renting a place there for almost a decade but this was our first time staying at “Aftermath”, and hopefully it will not be our last! The cabin still maintains some of the rustic charm of being a fishermen’s cabin while being lovingly updated with all the conveniences you really need. The only thing missing is a dishwasher/garbage disposal but then aren’t we spoiled! Since the water needs to be trucked in you really should try to help by being cognizant of your usage and try to conserve but it wasn’t really an issue. Although it was just the two us and our two four-legged friends the layout would be prefect for two couples or a family. The great room concept of a combine living/dining room/kitchen makes a prefect way to spend time together while still having the privacy of separate bedrooms/baths. Edie’s garden in front is enchanting (watch for the humming birds) and is totally fenced which makes it great for having dogs but you will need to improvise a gate to fence off from the back deck since there is no fencing/railing out back. The view……what can you say but is killer and the location is great for doing day trips to Wine County or visiting the wonderful little villages and towns that are in the area. Some of our favorite spots are the Farmers Market in Sebastopol (Sunday 10-2, April thru December), Wild Flour Bread in Freestone, Occidental and walks on Doran Beach. Having all this plus the Pacific Ocean “seriously” as your backyard makes the “Aftermath” a fantastic and relaxing getaway. Beth, we thank you for sharing your family treasure with us and being the most accommodating host.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.

Why the Owner Chose Bodega Bay:
Why 'Aftermath?' In 1955, our grandparents, math teachers from Concord, California, bought this fisherman’s cabin to spend summers away from the East Bay heat and testy students. Over the years, next generations have expanded and improved it, while maintaining its charm. In honor of our grandparents, we call it 'Aftermath.'
