Witness ocean views, spectacular colorful sunsets, and vistas of rolling hills from this farmhouse house built in 1845. A modern kitchen/Family room provides direct access to the deck where you can watch the ferries arrive and depart the island at Old Harbor.

Sitting atop Calico hill the breeze is always blowing and the views of town and crescent beach are ever changing. Beaches, Grocery shopping, restaurants and Art Galleries are a short walk away. Greenway hiking trails and nature preserves are within walking distance of the house. Pets with well behaved Humans are welcome. Smoking outdoors.

Amenities: Phone, TV, VCR, Stereo, Microwave, Dishwasher, Full kitchen - Cookware and Utensils provided, Gas Grill, Outside shower, Large Deck accessible from both Kitchen & Dining Room. Den closes off from remainder of house and is equipped with full sofa bed.

Special Notes: Ponds on front hill are not fenced. Parking provided for one car only with the second spot reserved for the upstairs apartment. Rental includes utilities (except toll telephone calls), Towels, Sheets, pillows & blankets, Trash & Recycling disposal. Laundry room facilities and cleaning services available upon prior arrangement.

                Calico Hill couldn't have been more perfect for our family. Beautiful blue ocean vistas greeted us each dawn from this charming hilltop retreat literally steps from Water Street and Crescent Beach. Each evening we were bathed in the warm glow of summertime sunsets. Fantastic breezes kept us refreshed day and night. A wonderful opportunity we hope to repeat again. Thank you.

                Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.

                Location, Location, Location. And this property is in the middle of it all. Located on a hill overlooking the Old Harbor, it is removed by it's location, but within easy walking distance of downtown. We rented it for one week July 10th till July 17th, and were very happy with our selection. The owner is very nice and went out of his way to assure our comfort. The furnishings were comfortable, with two bedrooms and a guest pull out couch. But let's face it, the reason we went to Block Island was for the beaches, island scenery and of course shopping. We did it all. And were happy to return to our place at the end of the day. The views from the deck are spectacular. There is a great view of the beach, and the harbor. You virtually look down on the whole island. I would recommend this house to anyone who enjoys the island. The only reason that I did not give 5 stars is because the property was not full service. We did have to visit the transfer station to drop off trash, and recyclables. Also, cleaning services were not included. But this property IS pet friendly. And that was a huge reason as to why we choose this property in the first place. It was a great experience.

                Owner response: There was an unfortunate incident the summer of 2010 which resulted in the trash & recyclables not being taken care of routinely. As soon as I became of aware of the situation it was rectified. Guests are expected to sort and place there refuse and recyclables in the receptacles provided at the South side of the house. Trash bags and containers are provided. Cleaning services will be arranged upon request.
