Fabulous OCEANFRONT HOME with snorkeling, kayaking, surfing and swimming directly in front of the house! Nice home built with quality materials, and stocked with just about anything you would want. You'll love it.
OUTDOORS: Starting at the top of our home
* Roof Top Deck, with Hot Tub: Talk about a view! There is a 270 degree ocean view--no kidding. There is also a chaise lounge, and 2 chairs with ottomans, a table and some chairs. The moon and sun both rise out of the ocean and this is a fantastic place to see that. With a clear night, the stars, and the Milky Way, are awe-inspiring. There's not too many places in the world where you can see stars so close to the horizon.
* Lanai off the Great Room: This is your outdoor dining room. There is a large table and 6 comfortable, high-end, lanai chairs. There are also two chairs with ottomans for relaxing, reading, sipping a cocktail or a smoothie.
* Downstairs Lanai: When the weather is really hot, there is a ground level lanai that is just perfect. There's a picnic table too.
INDOORS:
* Great Room: This large room is used for many purposes. Comfortable Living Room, cozy Dining Room, extra Bedroom (double bed), TV, large Kitchen and a Bar. The vintage rattan furniture is just right for Hawaii.
* Kitchen: The kitchen has top of the line hardware including appliances, faucets, sharp knives, stainless pots and pans. There is also a cappuccino machine, French press, lots of tea strainers, blender, fresh fruit/vegetable juicer, toaster, mixing bowls, kitchen towels, flatware, serving pieces, cutting boards, even a pressure cooker. And the bar area, with sink, works well as a serving buffet or a hang-out for the non-chef(s) to keep the chef(s) company. The whole area is very functional, and part of the great room, so nobody misses any of the fun happenings.
* Master Bedroom: Large room with a comfortable (not too hard, not too soft) Queen-sized bed, built-in dresser and closet, ceiling fan, a koa rocking chair for reading or relaxing, reading lamps and romantic indirect lighting. Did we mention the HUGE ocean view? This room is quite gorgeous, if we do say so ourselves.
* Master Bath: Tropical gone fabulous. Shower with two shower-heads, bench, and an ocean view! There’s also an unbelievable piece of granite that makes the walls of the shower look like you are inside a really refreshing volcano. Of course there are towels, shampoo, conditioner, hand/body soap and a hair dryer.
* Second Bedroom: Comfortable Pillow-Top Queen-sized bed, closet with built in shelf for your luggage, reading lamp, 2 nice chairs, ceiling fan, and a big ocean view.
* Second Bathroom: This bathroom is across the hall from the second bedroom, so it functions as the powder room as well. It has a tub/shower, with marble walls, a cool copper sink, and toilet all in a good-sized bathroom. Fluffy towels, shampoo, conditioner, hand/body soap, and a hair dryer make it all work well.
* Office: Free Wi-Fi, two professional, comfortable, office chairs and a large (3' x 5') partner desk. If you have to do work while you are visiting, this is an inspiring spot--ocean views from all locations. There's also a door leading to the back deck, for an extra-spacious feeling.
Also:
* Garage: This is where all the toys (4 bicycles, 2 boogie boards, 3 kayaks, and 2 surf boards) live. There are some stray swim fins, but we can't guarantee we'll have your size.
* Elevator: For lots of groceries or for someone who doesn't handle stairs well. Someone in a wheelchair could stay, however, if you truly need an accessible, ADA, home, please call for all the details.
Other information about what we provide:
* Shampoo, Hair Conditioner, Hand/Body soap, Dish soap, Dishwasher soap, Laundry soap, Toilet Paper (If this seems silly to mention, we agree. We stayed at a distant vacation rental where they gave us 'starter' toilet paper. It was a very short roll of TP in each bathroom. We don't want you to have to experience that.)
* Hair Dryers
* Umbrellas--just in case
More details about our home:
* Our home is built with top-quality materials and attention to every detail. It has stone decking, solid brass ship’s lighting fixtures, and plenty of ventilation-providing windows. The front door is big and beautiful -- 4 feet wide locally-milled eucalyptus with a stained-glass window panel depicting the fish found in the bay. On the inside there is the same brass ship’s lighting, local hardwoods for the cabinets and floors (jacaranda, silky oak), granite, copper, and a beachy white-washed ceiling with indirect and direct lighting. It is friendly, comfortable, and ultimately luxurious.
We regret that this home is not really suitable for children between the ages of 1 year and 12 years. Also, we have a one week minimum stay. Exceptions are made if less than one week is available between existing reservations. We hope you understand.

Beautiful property and very nice location. The house is beautiful and private, waterfront. There is access to the bay for swimming and snorkelling right in the back yard. It is rocky there but since it is a bay the waves are pretty mild. The subdivision is gated and well maintained. We enjoyed sleeping to the sound of the waves (in a very comfy bed) and gazing at the stars while in a hot tub on the roof. There is a large covered deck outside the living room that was always very cool and breezy (very nice on a hot day) and if one feels like lying in the sun there is a roof with patio furniture and a hot tub. It is also a wonderful place for doing yoga and meditating. Wonderful. The kitchen had everything we needed for cozy dinners on nights we did not feel like going out. The house is about 45 minutes drive to the National Volcanos Park, very close to Pahoa (pharmacy, groceries, a few restaurants) and about 30 minutes to Hilo (rush hour traffic could be slow). Thermally heated Champagne Pond is right in the subdivision. One of our favourite evening outings besides looking at a Kilauea glowing Crater after sunset was going to a Wednesday evening local gathering at Uncle Robert's bar in a town of Kalapana about 20 min drive from the house on an beautiful scenic road along the coast. A fun place with a local flavor. Another place we would recommend to visit is by Onomea Bay (north of Hilo)-Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens. It is worth the drive (another scenic road leading there) and is absolutely breathtaking. We definitely would recommend this property for couples and families with older children (there are two queen beds including master), for adventure seekers as well as for those just wanting a quiet getaway.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We love Kapoho area and keep coming back to this less developed part of the Big Island with its thermally heated pools, incredible snorkeling at Waiopae pools, hikes through the lava flows and a Volcano itself. Barbara’s and Jacks home was an awesome place to stay this time. It is very comfortable, welcoming, and beautiful. It felt very luxurious! They put a lot of work and love to this home and it feels like a very happy home. I liked the fact that the house is new and everything is in a perfect shape. The owners put a lot of thought into how to run everything smoothly and were very responsive to our questions and requests. I loved the Hawaiian style artwork and accessories. It felt relaxing and inspiring at the same time. It was wonderful to wake up with the sun and do yoga on the roof top. The views are incredible! We appreciated that owners had a collection of bicycles and kayaks to use. It was great to bike to our favorite Champaign pond. We were hoping to explore the bay with the kayaks but the ocean was a bit rough this time. We’ll be back!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

This home was so much more than I expected and one of the most comfortable that I have stayed. I couldn't stop looking at all the details, and trying to decide on my favorite. With the the magnificent ocean views, the wood floors, the lava-look granite countertops, the Hawaiiana décor, the sea breezes, the ceiling fans, I knew that I was in Hawaii! I loved the meals on the lanai overlooking the ocean, soaking in the hot tub, star gazing on the upper deck, sleeping to the lulling sounds of the Pacific, meeting the friendly neighbors, and shopping at local farmers’ markets for produce and little gifts to take home. Mahalo Jack and Barbara for the tropical R&R!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

My wife and I stumbled upon this rental while looking for our anniversary getaway. We couldn't have picked a more cozy, luxurious, exotic place! The home was built recently so it is immaculate! Beautiful hardwood floors and cabinets. The cooking facilities were more than we would ever need, so anyone who loves to cook would have all the essentials. It is a bit hard to find since our GPS didnt work, but upon confirming our reservation were given spot on directions to the house. The best part of our stay was enjoying the hot tub on the top deck in the evenings while watching sunset. I would highly recommend this vacation rental to anyone and everyone! Oh, and there's an elevator! If anyone needs wheelchair accessibility, i highly doubt many places can offer that!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

It's our last full day here on the Big Island. Many adventures were had over the past twelve days. We snorkeled and kayaked in the bay, visited the caldera (no flowing lava however, Madame Pele is resting). Favorite spots are Champagne Pond, the lagoon, and the marine sanctuary -- all fabulous and beautiful. We swam side by side with a very large green sea turtle -- the boys loved that experience! This little spot of paradise is really spectacular. I could live here! The smallest details throughout this home are of the highest quality -- especially the wood floors!! We feel so lucky to have found this home and would return in a New York minute. While our day trips to the other parts of the island were interesting, by day's end we were anxious to return "home". We are forever grateful.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed for a week and would have stayed for ten more. This house and setting have it all...plus it's fully equipped for cooking or playing. We were enchanted by the moon rising over the open ocean because it was so big. We'll be back !!!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

What a wonderful place to stay! It was like having a chance to stay at a dream house for a while. Every little detail of the house is well thought out, artistic and practical at the same time. I could see how much effort they had put to build their home. We are lucky that they travel a lot and share it with guests. The owners, Barbara and Jack, are very thoughtful people and cares deeply for the guests needs. When we got into the house we felt like we had arrived in a nice hotel, only more unique and cozy. They had prepared for everything we might need and we felt very comfortable while staying. The house is very private and secure, too. The oceanfront side of the house has so many windows that I could imagine myself onboard a cruise ship. Sitting in the hot tub on the rooftop deck was even more relaxing than we had expected. We used it in the morning and at night watching sunrise and gazing at the stars. Sky in Kapoho was so amazing at any time of the day. We challenged ourselves to swim all the way from the back of the house to the public lagoon which took us nearly 15 minutes. There were only few locals swimming in the lagoon and we saw three huge turtles there. We didn't go to the Champagne pond while staying at this house but it's a short walk from there. Waiopae tide pools are great for snorkeling, you can literally swim with schools of fish there. We already spent another month at Kapoho before we stayed at this home, so we spent a lot of time inside or at the back the house but never got bored. I loved to cook in the kitchen, use BBQ grill and dine at the outdoor lanai watching the waves. Staying at this home was truly an experience of paradise and hope we can stay here again. Thank you again for letting us stay at your beautiful home.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

....it begins with the conversation to the property owners (and family) friendly! All and any information answered promptly, really felt a connection. The two things that me(in Florida) and my girlfriend in Arzonia we were meeting in Hawaii, that made us pursue this choice "The Roof deck" and they had all the toys! When we walked in the first thing that took my breath away was the hand made dinning room table.....it was one WOW after another....my husband is an avid fisherman, he caught fish right behind the house, local fisherman caught the winning tournament fish right there, too! The bikes were a great way to get to the Champagne pools....The nieghbors were kind, the house had all the amenties you could want(personally don't know why anyone would want to leave this home and rent it...) But they do, and you will not regret it! Impecable housekeeping, style...just an incrediable time in this Kapoho Home! Maholo to our wonderful host (and thanks for the lovely bottle of wine) We hope to return some day! PS did I mention the elevator....:)Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We stayed in the house for 6 nights and unfortunately had both of our beloved Bike Friday's stolen from inside the locked garage while we were upstairs sleeping. The neighborhood watch was not very interested in helping us. They did inform us that another house in the gated community had also been robbed that same evening. I later found out from the neighbors that the owner's had bikes stolen from the garage but hadn't reported it to the police just a few months before our visit. If i had known that we certainly would have locked the bikes in the locked garage. There are many cameras at the front gates but unfortunately they seem to be fake. I certainly wish someone would have warned us about all the robbery's in the community.Owner response: Aloha, we are very sorry that our guests had their bikes stolen. Unfortunately, they did not read the information in the book at the house because it is very specific about locking up and being careful with valuables. Just so you know, we have changed all the door locks, added dead-bolts, and the cameras at the front gate are real. Like anyplace else in this modern world, no place is 100% theft free. Ultimately, we choose to live our lives thankful for all that we have, and grateful to live in such a beautiful place.

Wai O Pele -- Green Lake View on map
Friday Fruit Market and Hiking to Green Lake--a lake in a crater. A lake here is quite unusual when you think about how new our land is--very porous. Wai O Pele is a genuinely historic place--when the white man's diseases came to Hawai`i people would go to the lake in an effort to get cool.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: Here we are, enjoying life, in the sun.
Why the Owner Chose Kapoho:
After living in East Hawaii for 30 years, we built this house. Our dream. We camped here on weekends for a few years and completed the house in 2009. We checked out the views, the wind, and most importantly how we would want to LIVE here. Most agree, we did a really good job. Perhaps you will too.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Thermally heated tidal ponds are common in this area and some are warmer than others.
This is the only area of Hawaii with these, so it is truly unique. The Marine Sanctuary is a 5 minute bike ride (or a 15 minute walk). Incredibly colored/shaped corals and small schools of good-sized fish. Big schools of smaller fish. We have travelled quite a bit, and this gem is easily accessed--what a treat. Or you can bike up and down the coast, with minimal car interference, even though we don't have official bike lanes. Or you can walk along the coast, towards Cape Kumukahi, the most Eastern point of the island, and the state.
