The Unique Benefits of this Country House / Chateau
This is a unique property. It is wonderfully old, and can accommodate large parties. It also has a warm romantic ambiance. We spend a lot of time here by ourselves, so it is a great property for either small or large parties. We love walking in the village to the bakery or epicerie, eat in the restaurant, have coffee and wine in the nearby villages and cities. We love the Loire wines, probably the most diverse wine growing region in France. We have not yet visited all of the villages and chateau. The restaurants in the area are excellent, whether Michelin star, or village bistros.

Endless Varietyy of Day Trips

Our group of two couples stayed at the Petite Chateau this summer. We found it to be very well appointed, comfortable, and in a great location. The variety of day trips available is almost endless: We especially enjoyed the zoo nearby, the help offered by the tourist office, the Saturday market in Saumur, the lovely patio area for alfresco dining. I would heartily recommend a stay here to anyone interested in the history and culture (food, wine, markets, chateau) of the Loire valley. Tom

PERFECT BALANCE BETWEEN MYSTIQUE AND COMFORT

Not only was this gite and the village of Le Puy Notre Dame much more than we had hoped for our 40th anniversary celebration with three other couples, but everybody who hears about our week or sees our photos back home can't believe what a bargain we got. My wife and I almost never vacation in the same place twice -- certainly not in the same decade. But we're already thinking about how we can get back and "stay home" in Le Puy more next time. This was a wonderful staging ground for tours with our two sons, their wives and my sister and husband. Within 60 miles are far more enchanting chateaux, fortresses, ruins and quaint towns and villages, and marvelous historical sites than we could possibly see in a week. We made our week more rigorous that preferred by doing an overnight trip in the middle of it because most in our party had not seen the D-Day beaches and Mont-St.-Michel in Normandy. All were glad to have done that but regretted not having more time to just stroll the streets of Le Puy and hang out in our gite and courtyards. Our gite met my top priority of not being isolated from every-day French life. How exciting to hear the bells ring through the day from the historic church just two blocks away, and hear the roosters crow from the nearby edge of town. How precious to walk up the narrow, winding, stone-walled street less than a block around the corner to have marvelous, multi-course, reasonably priced meals at the local restaurant, and to walk a few more blocks each morning for the fresh treasures at the bakery. We enjoyed our night strolls most of all. For our tastes, the owners of this former winery have effected almost a perfect balance between preserving the mystique of a 15th century structure and offering maximum comfort, especially five totally modern, beautifully appointed bathrooms. Candlelight meals in the ancient dining room felt like a kingly medieval event. But our favorite was the massive French kitchen with fireplace, table and plenty of room for everybody to try to outdo each other in preparing the fresh ingredients purchased in the environs.

The quintessential French country experience

Here are my (our) thoughts about the Petite Loire Chateau: - the chateau and surrounding property is everything it is advertised to be and more - it is beautiful, well maintained, and no details have been forgotten - staying in Le Puy Notre Dame provides the quintessential French country experience that includes awakening to pealing church bells, crowing roosters, (we loved it!) and a short, morning walk to the bakery - the chateau offers an "old world" experience while providing up-to-date amenities such as wireless, a fabulous "cook's kitchen", and spacious bathrooms - the gardens and flowering plants are gorgeous - the chateau is a place of beauty, comfort, quality, and caring attention where you can really relax and enjoy the wine! - we highly recommend it, and would absolutely consider going back for another stay Have a wonderful summer, and thank you for sharing your very special French home with us.

An authentic historical experience in the French countryside

For travelers that want an authentic, historical experience in the French countryside, Le Chateau Bob and Beth may be your perfect choice. We stayed here in April of 2009 and found ourselves in the most spacious and beautifully restored 17th century Chateau we could imagine. The house is a grand statement, filled with art, antique furnishings, master stone-work, and of course modern amenities (dishwasher etc). One can dine in the banquet room or by the fire in the kitchen. One can explore the wine cellar or climb to look out the spire. One can wander the courtyard gardens or haul in twisted grapevines for the next fire at which to have apero’s (cocktails). Le Puy is the ‘salt of the earth’ or in other words, the real French countryside with active vineyards, mushroom caves, graveyards, a cathedral, and gracious people to guide one to the bakery. Lastly, I’d just say that Beth and Bob are the kind of people one likes doing business with –honest, kind, and straight up.
