Experience the Cape as it used to be. The two cabins are located on a peaceful, wooded acre with your own private beach. The larger cabin has a sleeping porch as well as sleeping quarters in the living room. Large barn doors in the living/dining area open up to a view of the river. Canvas shutters on the porch can be easily closed for privacy and protection against inclement weather. A separate guest cabin is ideal for children or a second couple. There is a fully enclosed outdoor shower with easy access over the porch to the inside of the cabin. There is no indoor shower.
The cabins were built in the 1920's as part of a nautical camp for boys founded by my grandmother and run later by my father. Camp Bonnie Dune, as it was called, closed its doors during the Second World War. The camp was never reopened and since then we, and many others, have enjoyed this bucolic and peaceful summer retreat. The property is located in an upscale neighborhood of large, elegant homes. However the full acre of private woods surrounding the two cabins provides a secluded atmosphere. The private beach is ideal for young children as it does not drop off suddenly. There is 80 feet of private waterfront. We do not have a cleaning service. When you come the cabin will be clean, and we ask that you leave it in the same, clean condition You will need to bring your own sheets and towels.
It is only a 5 minute drive to a shopping center with both a supermarket and a large, fabulous gourmet food store. Other shopping is close by. A 10 minute drive takes you to West Dennis Beach on Nantucket Sound. Rent a kayak down river and store it on the shoreline or bring your own for awesome canoeing and kayaking. Enjoy either of two golf courses, each 10 minutes away. The Cape Cod Playhouse on beautiful 6A is close by as well. You will enjoy the amenities of life on Cape Cod while living in a secluded, peaceful location.
Roll out of bed and into the river. Enjoy the cape as it used to be! Two families with children will have a great time.

I don't think it's possible to find any other place like it on Cape. My grand kids stay in or near the water all the time. We brought our sea kayak, and my husband and I paddled all the way to West Dennis beach. My mother (81 years old) and her tiny dog enjoined quiet time on the beach. Very private, but close to everything.Recommended for: Pet owners, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Vintage Cape Cod. A wonderful step above camping but also keeping it rustic. Great outdoor shower, modern conveniences like inside toilets, washer and dryer, phone and the dreaded Internet. Very family and pet friendly. Own beach right on Bass River but close enough to the Cape attractions to get there by boat or car. My favs = waking up to the birds, sipping coffee in the quietude other than the birds chirping and watching the sunrise over the river AND watching the sunset after a busy day of activities. I feel like a 10YO camper.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

Have been guests in the Bass River cabins since the sixties and my family (all three generations now) just returned from another two weeks of happily and gratefully enjoying the "Cape as it was." We appreciate having all the river sports:swimming, fishing, kayaking and sailing just a few yards from our door. It's a vacationer's dream.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

The listing and photos accurately describe this property. Our family of 6 had ample space and we never used the second cabin. The rustic simplicity of the cabin is welcome relief after checking out all the hot spot tourist attractions. We didn't do any swimming in the river, but the kids spent a lot of time exploring the salt water beach and all its inhabitabts (crabs, clams, fish, birds, etc). We were minutes from groceries, gas, summer shops, church, yet all we heard were the trolling motors humming by occasionally. Never heard traffic. We were warmly welcomed and received information about the property and the surrounding areas and directions to a few places nearby. Ten minutes to beaches, fifteen to parasail. An hour to Provincetown where we had the best breakfast at Chach's. Nauset was 30 min away and that was our favorite beach with the seals (sea lions?) swimming within the bouys. Be sure to bring your kayak or canoe. The river is perfect. Rentals are close by, but kind of pricey. I recommend this property and very much look forward to coming back.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

The smell of pine woods and a wonderful breeze off Bass River make this an ideal summer retreat. The private beach on a secluded cove on Bass River provides endless hours of wonderful swimming and boating. The sun deck, near the river's edge, is great for sunning, reading, napping or socializing; it's the ideal place for a cookout, or a cool drink during the afternoon and/or a cocktail before dinner. The living/dining area of the main cabin is large and inviting, with a river view and a welcome breeze off the river. This is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway or an informal family vacation, surrounded by the natural, rustic beauty of Cape Cod.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

My husband & I rented this secluded gem for a romantic getaway for a week. It was the perfect fit for us! We cooked, read, napped, snuggled, canoed, swam and relaxed on the edge of Bass River. Close and centrally located to all conveniences of shopping, restaurants other beaches, etc this throw back in time was just what the love doctor ordered! We hope to return again soon! The owner, Ann, was a wealth of local info and the history behind this property makes it a Cape Cod classic! A GREAT find!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had a wonderful stay at this charming cabin where the kids enjoyed the beach and canoeing. They felt special that they had their own cabin-quarters, and loved the outdoor shower. The property feels secluded with its large beautiful trees, but is close to the favorite ice cream shoppe down the road. We loved the rustic charm of the well-maintained cabin and recommend as a lovely vacation spot. The photos show the woodsy charm of the property, and the outdoor space to host active children and their families. The owner was very helpful in answering our questions.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
