Location: Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexican Riviera, Mexico (30 miles north from Puerto Vallarta airport) View Map
Accommodations: Villa, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 5 Baths (Sleeps 9)
Just 30 minutes from the Puerto Vallarta airport where the jungle meets the ocean on a beautiful gently sloping hillside with 360-degree views of ocean and jungle, and only 75 yards from the ocean sits Casa Rana Verde, a tropical paradise in wonderful, sunny Sayulita! The fully-furnished home features ocean and jungle views from every room and one-plus acre of private, gated land with wading and adult pools connected by a cascading waterfall, that cascades onto an ocean viewing bench to watch the sunset over the ocean! Our ocean view pool is the best in Sayulita!
We live right next door to the estate to assure that your vacation will be all you expect it to be. All 3 bedrooms are very large with extra built in beds. They are furnished with the finest amenities such as Ralph Lauren towels, 200 thread count all cotton sheets (only natural fiber products are used throughout), down pillows, televisions with DVD players and a DVD library of TV sets & movies, I pod player, Guatemalan fabrics for all curtains and pillow covers, our personal art collection from travels throughout Mexico/Guatemala, furnishings that will allow you all the comforts you need while enjoying our incredible villa. Our kitchens are stocked with as many small appliances, coffee cups, wine glasses, plates, bowls, etc. as you have in your own homes. The kitchen ware is matching Fiesta ware. Everything is in abundance.
The villa is located at "Villas Rana Verde" Sayulita's premiere estate property, with almost 1 1/2 acres of private land, we are one of the largest pieces of estate property in Sayulita. The beach across the street is one of the most pristine, sandy, private beaches with the cleanest water in Sayulita. It is not unusual to be the only person on the beach for 1/4 mile in each direction. There is great surf fishing on the beach right across the street from the estate. The fisherman regularly catch snook, sea bass, grouper and many other varieties. It is a nesting grounds for Leatherback turtles who can be seen in the early morning hours and late evenings during summer months laying their eggs or hiding the nests before their return to the ocean.
We are located about 1/2 mile from the village in an area of private villas away from the night noise of the village with its roosters (why do they have to start crowing at 2:30AM?), cantinas, and Saturday night disco, and all night drum circles. Your quiet night of sleep is assured. We are across from the most pristine, private, sandy beach you have ever seen, just a 2 minute walk on cobblestone. You may appreciate not being directly on the ocean when the big surf comes and the noise is so loud and strong that it is a constant pounding, when your clothes and sheets are damp all the time from the mist from the waves crashing on the beach, and you have to shout to hear each other talk. The short 10 minute walk to town can be along the pristine, sandy beach or a quiet, low traffic paved road.
We provide everything you need for a luxurious and relaxing stay. Hair dryers in every bathroom, organic fruit from the estate for your table, every day maid and pool service, optional cook, beach towels (chairs and umbrellas too), fresh flowers, the best of everything, all in the very private setting. Our villas can not be seen by each other or by the surrounding villas. Our driver can pick you up at the airport in an air conditioned Suburban with cold drinks of your choice. If you are looking for a very private getaway without even leaving the estate, our cook can prepare the best Mexican meals. She brings her masa dough for tortillas, along with her wooden press (many guests enjoy pitching in and making their own tortillas, it is lots of fun with Lucia), and she prepares salsa, guacamole, rice, beans, and 2 entrees with your choice of chile rellenos, shrimp, fish, chicken, pork or beef. Most guests tell me this is one of the highlights of their trip.
Our lovely estate is home to the most beautiful birds that you are likely to witness outside the most complete aviary of exotic, tropical, colorful birds. We have identified over 100 varieties of these magnificent creatures. There is an even larger abundance if you venture into the nearby jungle.
The best tropical garden in Sayulita is at your doorstep all within the private, gated compound. We have so many varieties of palms, sweet smelling exotic flowers, flowering trees, organic fruit for your table, and much more for your enjoyment. If you love to garden, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to live your dream in a tropical paradise. Meander through our many cobblestone pathways into a tropical botanical paradise seldom seen on private grounds.
We have the best home, pool, garden, location, view and amenities in Sayulita! Check out the "comments of previous guests" below to find out how truly great our home is!
Experience Mexico at its best. Outside Magazine calls Sayulita "the best place to hang a hammock." Check out why AARP magazine article calls Sayulita one of the best places in the world to retire. Panoramic Ocean View Acre+ Estate 75 Yards to Sayulita Beach!
Year Purchased: 2002
Why the Owner Chose Sayulita
My wife and I came to Sayulita in 1995. We immediately loved the wonderful ambiance, weather, ocean and great people. We were living in Santa Cruz, CA at the time, which we love for many of the reasons. As the years went by we were spending more time each year in Sayulita. We moved here full time in 2003 and have never regretted a day. We live next door to the villas full time, so we are here to be sure that everything runs at 100% efficiency all the time. We love surfing in warm water, the beaches, weather, jungle, small village atmosphere, the people, etc. There is a reason why everyone is talking about Sayulita, but that reason is actually many reasons. It is just a fantastic place to live or visit! Come and visit us and discover why so many of our guests describe our villas in superlative terms. We make it great for you!
The Unique Benefits at this Villa
Our estate is a fantastic venue for any size group, with built in beds for 17 people and movable beds for more. Unlike many other villas, we welcome children and have many amenities for children, such as cribs, high chairs child car seats, kiddie pool, and 2 free laundries (we even supply the soap). All 3 villas have their own private pool. Our estate is the perfect venue for large families, multi family groups, yoga groups, and weddings. The 60' living area in the main villa can accommodate large dinners of up to 50 people with seating for almost everyone. Our full acre plus property is landscaped with the finest garden in Sayulita. Due to the extensive 15 year garden and other landscaping, there is total privacy everywhere. We are in the very quiet part of Sayulita in the north end where you hear only the waves, wind and birds. Never any cantina, rooster, dog, or drum circle noise. There is maid service/garden/pool every day. There is a fantastic cook that prepares, serves and cleans up after an 8 plate meal for $10.00/person plus the cost of the food. We use only the finest for your bedding, cooking, bathing, etc, so that when you come here, the comforts are much like what you are accustomed to at home. Our driver will pick you up the airport, insuring your comfort and safety to and from the villas. Our ocean views are unsurpassed in Sayulita. It is just a 2 minute walk on cobblestone to the sandy, pristine beach from our gate, and only a 12 minute walk to the village of Sayulita by sandy beach or quiet dirt road. We live next door to insure that your needs are fulfilled. We care about your stay and want to make the best it can be! Our villas run at 100% efficeincy 100% of the time! Everyone loves our estate. If you read the reviews, you will see that the consensus is unanimous!
Owner's Map of Sayulita
Barry & Connie Dumont moved here from Santa Cruz, CA in 2003. They had been Realtors in Santa Cruz, CA for the previous 20 years. They have four children, one of whom has moved to Sayulita and owns and operates Galeria Gypsy in the village of Sayulita. They have always had a keen interest in Mexico and south, and were frequent visitors during the 70s to Mexico, Guatemala and Columbia. Once the four had grown, they renewed their love affair Mexico and made the move to Mexico full time in 2003. They live next door to the villas. They travel to the interior of Mexico and as buyers for their daughter's store several times a year, and when in Sayulita are surfing and enjoying the fantastic laid back lifestyle.

We arrived at Casa Rana Verde just in time for our first sunset. What a view and what a great property. Our rental was divided on 3 levels making a visit to Sayulita with a friend and another couple very comfortable and fun. Barry provided everything we needed - a great kitchen, a wonderful housekeeper and all the amenities from boogie boards and beach chairs to yoga mats. We took his suggestion to have Lucia cook us dinner one night - what a treat! We had a wonderfully restful and fun week. We will definitely return!

Relaxing post wedding vacation

We came here for a relaxing post wedding vacation with 6 adults. We chose Casa Rana Verde because of its authenic Mexican look, beautiful views and grounds and privacy for each couple. It did not disappoint. Barry is willing to help you with anything and Lucia and Chuey take excellent care of the house and grounds. We had excellent meals prepared by Lucia with lots of leftovers. The pool area is perfect as you can sit in the shade or sun and comfortable chairs are provided. There is a large area to meet in the outdoor living room and eat a relaxing meal while you watch the sun set. The only thing to consider if you are coming here is your physical condition. It is built on a hill and if you want to walk to the beach or town, it does require you to be in good shape. We loved it as it provided some much needed exercise while enjoying the foods and beverages of Mexico. A good walking/running trail is close by or you can run into town and enjoy a nice breakfast while there. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation this is the place.
Owner response:Thanks for the great review! FYI: most all properties in Sayulita have some slope. Ours is relatively minor. The slope is about 30% and is 30-40 yards in length. For most people this has not been a problem.

For anyone interested in hosting a large group in Sayulita, especially for the purposes of a retreat, this may be your place! I recently held a movement retreat at Villas Rana Verde in early February, 2011. I can confidently say that, after my many months of research and deliberating, I made the best choice. We were a group of 17 (15 of whom stayed on the property; 2 people stayed up the road at Casa Susana) Everything about the setting was ideal for our purposes. The property is very quiet, (but for the wonderfully exotic sounds of the crashing waves and tropical birds) and is a perfect distance from town. Moreover, there is plenty of privacy and quiet between casas, and even between rooms within the casas. Having multiple kitchens proved very helpful with such a large group. The rooms and grounds, evidently very clean and well-maintained, were all very much enjoyed by my participants. Most significant for our purposes was the terrace: we made very good use of it, for breakfast first thing in the morning, dance and meditation, general hanging out and sunning, beautiful sunset dinners, and laying under the stars until the wee hours. We were able to play music (with great acoustics under the palapa!) and could turn on lights and candles as it grew dark. Lucia (the cook/maid) and Chuy (the gardener/maintenance man) are helpful and responsive. Lucia and her crew of lovely ladies made us breakfast each morning, and 3 dinners - they obviously contributed a great deal to our experience, such that received a few standing ovations from our lively group :) Owner Barry is committed to his guests having a satisfying stay. I found him to be quick to respond to my (many!) emails leading up to my trip, and generally thorough in the information he shared. The one glitch of this trip was that Barry was out of town for the bulk of our stay, namely upon our arrival; I had a few surprises during our stay that would have been much less challenging had he been around, or even had I known in advance that he wouldn't be there. That said, Barry was still in quick contact with me by phone (when in range) to help me handle any situations as they arose, and went out of his way to make sure my guests (and I) were happy, even from afar. It was notable to me that most of my participants commented that the property was ideal, that "it couldn't have been more perfect", and that some of them even plan to return with their own guests. I highly recommend Rana Verde!
Owner response:Although this review is glowing, I want clear up a couple of comments. First, although I did not arrive until the 3rd day of a 7 day stay, my daughter and manager who live next door to the estate were here for any questions that arose, of which the client made me or my manager (who checked in with her twice in the first day) aware of no glitches. Also, of the over 30 emails I received from this guest, all were answered within 2-3 hours, usually immediately, by phone. We try very hard to give the utmost service, and pride ourselves in our determination to give the best possible response to our clients needs. This guest booked the estate for next year!

Thanksgiving at Casa Rana Verde Compound

We rented the three casas (Rana Verde, Pajaro and Mikayla) for a week over Thanksgiving to celebrate my husband's 60th. There were 14 of us including kids, spouses and grandkids. It was a FABULOUS experience! From the moment we were picked up by Angel at the airport (Barry arranged transportation for all of us from and to the airport), our needs were totally met. The houses are set in such a way that everyone could have privacy and yet gather on the large palapa to be together. We chose to have Lucia cook all our breakfasts and dinners and either ate leftovers or went to town for lunch (Chocobanana was a big hit). We got to choose our menus and Lucia (and Rosie) did an astounding job of figuring out how much food to serve for all of us- she even accommodated our various food allergies by serving a dish made two ways- one regular and one without, say, dairy. Everything was delicious! The compound is located at the quiet north end of Sayulita within easy walking distance of town. The beach is a short walk away and even though it was Thanksgiving week, it was so uncrowded that it felt like our own private beach. Connie and Barry live next door and made sure everything was perfect. Their attention to detail was amazing in every way. The furnishings and design of the place are unique and fun. The quality of the linens and towels are excellent. There are beach towels, beach chairs, boogie boards available. The entire family has decided that our next family reunion will be in Sayulita at the Casa Rana Verde compound!

We rented the whole compound to celebrate birthdays with a large group of friends and it couldn't have been more perfect! All the houses (Pajaro, Mikayla, Rana Verde) were absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed relaxing, playing games and dining together in the palapa after eating several meals that Lucia cooked for us, there's just nothing like eating a freshly made tortilla seconds after it's been pressed! The pools were a nice break from the sandy beaches, but the beach was so easy to get to that we went every day, several times a day. And it was so convenient to walk to town for breakfast and surfing. When I go back to Sayulita, I will for sure be staying at the Villas Rana Verde again! Working with Barry to arrange everything was very smooth and professional. If you're reading this for advice - look no further Casa Rana Verde is where it's at! Have a great vacation!!!

Thank you Barry and Connie! Our family just spent an amazing 10 days at Rana Verde. Our room opened out to the private pool that has the perfect amount of shade and sun. It also is great for little and big swimmers! Our kids spent ALL day in the pool and were entirely happy! The upstairs palapa had beautiful views of the ocean and town of Sayulita. It was the perfect place to hang out, read, play cards and games and enjoy a meal. Lucia cooked for a large group of friends one night and it was the best authentic Mexican food we've ever had. We hope to be back next year!

We just had a large group stay at Casa Rana Verde, Pajaro and Mikayla. With out a doubt this was the most SPECTACULAR place in Sayulita!! When we arrived at the airport we had two air conditioned suburbans pick us up with ice cold pacifico's in the cooler. Then when we arrived at our Casa's and we where completely blown away! Our little paradise in the jungle. Each casa was decorated beautifully all of the bedrooms unique and gorgeous. The views where incredible with a sunset that will leave you speechless. I recommend having Lucia prepare your meals for you as well. We are all in the restaurant business and where blown away by her dishes. We had breakfast everyday but Sunday and dinner four of our seven nights. I recommend the chili rellenos. The beach is just a two or three minute walk. They have portable beach chairs and umbrellas so you can set up your own area away from people. The pools are great too. The main pool is surrounded by palm trees. If you get too hot you can swim to the shade of a palm tree. It was fantastic. Especially since all of us where pale faced gringos from a mountain town. If you want to luxury and a peaceful stay this is the place. We will definitely be back...

Casa Rena Verde is THE BEST place to stay in Sayulita!!!! Beautiful views, 2 minute walk to the beach, chef's kitchen overlooking a huge, palapa covered open living space perfect for relaxing, napping, and watching the sunset. Barry and Connie have made Casa Rena Verde so comfortable and warm that you never want to leave. The gardener(Chuy)keeps the grounds pristine. Lucia and Dulce not only maintain the house to perfection, but they also cook delicious meals. I can't wait to return!!

Beautiful property with amazing views and a nice, relaxing, shaded pool. I have been all over Mexico and this place ranks right up there with the best of them. The beach is nice and relatively secluded. My family and I hope to return. Two thumbs up!
