Brimley cottage description

This 1940's style cabin has an interior of nottie pine and a very unique and original stone fireplace where you can enjoy quiet evenings around the fire inside, while watching the beautiful sunset over Lake Superior through the living room picture window. The cabin is surrounded by mature pine and picturesque white birch trees. You can also enjoy a bonfire on the beach, or a smaller campfire on the bluff overlooking the water as you gaze at millions of stars in the Northern skies. You might even get to see the illusive and infamous dance of the Northern Lights.

There is a front porch and a very large front yard that shields noise from road traffic. Off the rear of the cabin is an attached wooden deck with lounge chairs and a gas grill. The outdoor area is kept natural and hummingbirds abound. You may also see eagles flying overhead near the beach or hear an owl hoot or sled dogs howl. About 30 steps down to the beach, you will find yourself in another world. Lake Superior will look like an ocean! You will enjoy walking the beach for what seems like forever before even seeing another person. You can walk for miles undisturbed, build sandcastles, have a bonfire, swim in the cool waters, or collect the famous Lake Superior multicolored rocks. Our families have enjoyed this spot for many years. We now want to share it.

Manager info

Year Purchased: 1985

About: My husband and I used to camp in remote areas usually at Federal campsites. We camped in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on the shores of Lake Superior at the primitive Bay View Campground in Hiawatha National Forest and were mesmerized by the area. We looked for a place to buy to enjoy as our own retreat as we aged. Our Hiawatha House became our haven away from the busy metropolis we lived in near Detroit. It has inspired my husbands music and restored my soul with its peace.

Why Brimley:
We bought this with the full intent to use it only for family. Things change and we are not able to come as often to Hiawatha House. To continue to maintain and update it we decided to share our piece of heaven with others and allow it to become a seasonal rental cottage managed by my sister and brother-in-law. They now live only four miles down the road from it and also have a year round Lake Superior Beach House rental listed with VRBO. They encouraged us to list.

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
The clean air and waters of Lake Superior are like no other. You can walk on the beach and not see another sole for a mile. The nearby Hiawatha Forest roads and trails are awesome and the great pines, oak, maple and birch are grand. Many sites to see in just a short one hour or less drive in any direction include: Point Iroquois Light Station, Whitefish Point Lighthouse, Whitefish Point Shipwreck Museum, whitefish Point Bird Observatory, Tahquamenon Falls (2nd largest falls in USA after Niagara Falls), the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie, MI., the Sault Ste Marie, Ontario Canada Algoma Central Railroad across the St. Mary's River on the International Bridge, the unique Mackinac Island, Oswald's Black Bear Ranch in Newberry, the Bay Mills Resort & Casino, the Sault Tribe's Kewadin Casino, the Wild Bluff Golf Course and others, two Native American Reservations, Mission Hill Overlook & Cemetery, Old Indian Burial Grounds on the Bay Mills Reservation, the National Scenic Byway on W. Lakeshore Drive/Curley Lewis Highway along the Lake Superior shoreline which takes you past the Pendill's Creek National Fish Hatchery. The City of Sault Ste Marie is one of the oldest cities in America with great historical museums/homes/shops and the Soo Locks. See Native American Pow-Wows. Go berry picking, hiking, hunting, walking, bicycling, and kayaking or canoeing. Visit Brimley's churches and its Wheels of History Museum free or for a small donation. Enjoy the clean pure Michigan water and air!
