Escape to the beauty of the mountains and the sounds of the New River. The Hokie Hideaway makes you forget about all of your daily stresses. It is just a short walk to the banks of the New River where you and your family or friends can enjoy many exciting activities or welcome rest and relaxation.
The Hokie Hideaway is actually located in McCoy, VA in Montgomery County, which is only 15-20 minutes from the VA Tech or Radford campus. Whether you enjoy canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, tubing or just being lazy, the Hokie Hideaway is a wonderful place to enjoy your stay away from home.
If it’s adventure you’re looking for, you will want to visit New River Junction Outfitters, which is less than a five-minute walk. They offer tube and canoe rentals. You can enjoy a lazy day on the river.
Big Falls (Mccoy Falls) is approximately a 15 minute walk and well worth it. There you will find excellent fishing holes and beautiful scenery and water falls over big rocks. For experienced boaters and fishermen, the Hokie Hideaway will be an excellent place to stay for a fun weekend. Only skilled waterman should attempt the falls at water levels above three feet (mostly early spring and winter).
Numerous hiking and bike trails are located in the surrounding area.

- Parking For RV/Boat/Trailer : The back yard may be used to store a small boat, camper, RV. Height clearance of the carport is approximately 7'.
- Covered Parking : Covered carport adjoins the firewood shed. Covered area fits an SUV or truck and a small vehicle.
- Air-Conditioning : Central heat and air conditoning upgrade to new efficient Carrier heat pump effective March, 2012

- Water View : View of the New River from the front yard, driveway and front porch. Walk or drive .04 miles to owner's open lot with river water frontage. Great for fishing, canoe or float put-in, tubing, canoeing (one provided for use as well as life jackets).
- Mountain View : House is situated in between (2) wooded ridges along a trickling creek. Very private location.
- Communications
- Cell Phone : Please note that mobile phones may have limited coverage on the property. Reception is better in the front of the house, down by the river or on top of the hill behind the house.
- Suitability
- Non Smoking Only : Smokers may only smoke outdoors. Please do not flick cigarette or cigar butts in the yard or nearby wooded areas to prevent litter and potential forest fire (snuff out and dispose of them properly). Damages due to neglect will be at renter's expense.
- Pets Considered : Dogs and cats are allowed and may be subject to an additional nominal fee. Please state quantity, age, breed, gender on your inquiry form.
- Children Welcome : Large back yard is perfect for playing and running around and a short hike along the creek bed away from the road.

The Unique Benefits at this CottageHokie Hideaway also allows visitors to use the owner's open lot along the New River (approx. .04 miles from the house--an easy walk) where you can fish, go wading, tubing or canoeing (one provided at the house) or just sit by the river and soak in the sun and the view. If you're lucky, during your stay, you might see a fighter jet, from Norfolk VA Oceana Naval Air Base fly low over (strafe) the river canyon and zoom over the U.S. Arsenal down the road. It is an amazing sight to behold! You'll also hear and see the railroad cars traverse along both sides of the New River.
