Rose Gate Farm-elegant accommodation in a blissful rural setting
Location: Summit, Mississippi, USA (1.5 Hours From New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Jackson)
Accommodations: Farmhouse, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)
Keywords: farmhouse, whole house rental, nature, water
Rose Gate Farm offers elegant accommodation in a blissful rural setting. Enjoy drinks on the front porch or a stroll through five wooded acres.
The Topisaw Creek is clear and cool--spend time on the sand or rock bars, soaking up the sun or hunting for rocks and fossils (petrified wood and arrowheads have been found here). Many folks also enjoy a leisurely float down the creek in inner tubes ("tubing"). A local tubing company will provide all you need for a day on the creek.
Just a short walk through the woods brings you to Camp Topisaw, our home and workplace, where we handcraft traditional soaps, skincare products and natural wax candles. We also raise rare-breed Pineywoods Cows and Gulf Coast Native Sheep, chickens, donkeys and a flock of guinea hens. Browse our gift shop (our products plus locally-made crafts), see how soap is made, talk to the sheep, help gather eggs or arrange for a children's art class...
Rose Gate Farm is centrally located for your stay in the Deep South--1.5 hours from New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Jackson and 1 hour from Natchez and Hattiesburg. We are 15 minutes from McComb MS where you'll find several galleries (Japonica Gallery is our favorite), excellent dining (don't miss The Caboose with their fabulous steaks, double-cut pork chop and seafood) and Percy Quin State Park, home of Quail Hollow Golf Course and a large lake for fishing and boating.
Rose Gate boasts luxury bedding, classically-styled furniture, a whole-house stereo system, antique flooring from New Orleans and handcrafted custom soaps and lotions. Two twin size Aerobeds are available for extra sleeping.
Bedroom #1 has a king size 4 poster bed, a recliner for relaxing, a large walk-in closet and its own marble-floored bathroom with double vanities.
Bedroom #2 has a queen size sleigh bed, a wingback chair for reading, a lovely view of the wooded front yard and its own bath.
Your rental includes a dozen farm-fresh eggs plus a pan of freshly baked mocha brownies. Catering (specializing in Mediterranean-style and vegetarian cooking) is also available.
Concierge services: We will be happy to handle your dinner reservations or to arrange for in house spa services. Children's crafting classes may be arranged in advance.

Upon turning into the driveway of Rose Gate, was happy to notice the wooded property boundries. This farmhouse is rustic in outward appearance, but surprises its guests by opening doors to an elegant, fully functional home. Rose Gate allows lazy days, (you must spent time on both front and back porches),or adventure and sightseeing. Beautiful clean country roads to drive, stroll or bike. Down the path and thru the woods to TOPISAW CREEK we go. Cold, crystal clear water, sandbars, swimming, fishing, and the opportunity for tubing...bring sunscreen/tanning lotion, picnic basket, make noise, run, laugh, jump and splash in the creek, or simply enjoy the quietness of moving water and the surrounding sound of the woods. I cannot imagine an occasion this location would not do justice... family gatherings, couple w/end, honeymoon, Thanksgiving/Christmas, church retreats...Rose Gate will not disappoint, as it is "town and country" making all welcome and comfortable. My husband and I stayed Sept. 2010 and returned Jan. 2011. We hear a hot-tub is coming and a hammack hanging between two trees somewhere is the only added touch I can imagine. The owners make you feel you have forever known them. Thanks for a wonderful two stays, we will return.

All I can say is...GO to this place and you won't be sorry. Everything about it is top notch as are the people who own it. We were there in the fall and can't wait to go back in the summer so we can play in the creek! Explore McComb and Summit as they are great places. Eat at the Caboose and you will be happy you did. We needed one more day, at least!

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful weekend at Rose Gate. The home is beautiful; the gardens are peaceful, and the creek is refreshing. We were able to escape from our fast-paced life to the quiet country, yet we relaxed luxurious comfort. A short walk down the stream lead to the creek, and the fish were actually biting. My most enjoyable moments were spent lounging on the sandbar while the cool, clear water rushed over me. It was my own private spa. We are looking forward to returning, and we hope to bring our bikes.

The listing description understates the beauty, elegance, and peacefulness of the place in its woodsy rural setting. The house has floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides of the living area which offers a panoramic view of the roses, azaleas, and butterfly bushes that encircle the house. A spacious patio extends to the woods' edge; multiple groups of strategically placed chairs offer a respite under the trees--great places to read, meditate, and talk. I noticed sweet gum trees along the back patio--they turn glorious shades of red in the fall. The photos may not have fully captured the wonderfully high ceilings and expansive, spacious living areas. My husband and I sat and sipped tea in four of at least 14 different sitting places inside and outside the house. The property is immaculately clean, extremely well maintained (it looks like it has just been built and furnished), mattresses are pillow-top--quite comfortable, sheets seem to be sateen 100% Egyptian cotton with high thread count (I did not actually read the label, but I know good quality sheets when I see them!). And the homemade soap that the owners make feels good on your skin--I like the Sweet Clover one. What a peaceful place to go to--to re-connect with friends and family members. And I have not yet mentioned the beautiful Topisaw Creek right out back! Apparently there are fish in there! The owners were helpful in answering questions. The book in the living room gave us a wealth of information on area restaurants, activities, and attractions. We ate dinner at the Caboose downtown McComb. My swordfish steak was some of the best fish I have eaten in a while. I highly recommend that place for lunch or dinner. I recommend a day trip to Woodville about 50 miles west. Chartered in 1811, this historic town of 1,200 has three of Mississippi's oldest churches, and is home to Clark Creek Natural Area, a state park which has 50 waterfalls from 10 to 35 feet high that eventually empty into the Mississippi River. We have taken a picnic, hiked the falls area--made it to the first one--and were so happy to see the newly constructed restroom buildings, complete with water fountains. Kids love playing under the waterfalls, by the way. Birders and botanists love this place. Get to Rose Gate Farm in Summit for some R&R! It's an easy drive to Natchez, Woodville, Brookhaven, Hattiesburg. (Watch out for deer along the roadways!).

A group of us stayed here in mid August for an extended weekend getaway. The house was beautiful, comfortable, and perfectly suited our needs. Being avid music lovers, the whole house (including outside) sound system was the perfect touch. Numerous outdoor spaces, benches, porches, etc. were much enjoyed by our outdoors-loving group. A walk through the woods brought us to Topisaw Creek, which was a wonderful stream to wade through, fish with light tackle (spotted bass and long-ear sunfish), swim in, and float down using tubes from a local rental company. The float was perfect, only taking a little more than an hour to complete, starting from the bridge about a mile up the road, to the north. We also had a mediterranean dinner prepared for us by the owners, which was excellent! Bird lovers, this house would be a wonderful retreat during spring migration.
Owner response:We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at Rose Gate and hope that you'll come back soon! Thanks, also, for your suggestions regarding fishing and bird watching. David + Edie
