Come enjoy mid coast Maine, as our family has for generations.
Our cottage-style home has privacy with 150 degree water views. The house is beautifully sited on the banks of the Kennebec River as the river widens with views ¾ mile across the river. Built in 1979, it has been lovingly updated recently with granite counter tops and modern appliances and bathrooms. It is also conveniently located - only 8 miles from the ocean by boat, 12 miles (20 min) by land to the beach, yet also only five miles (10 min) from Bath and Route 1.
Enjoy the abundance of nature surrounding the home – including eagles soaring over the river and perching in nearby towering pine trees and a curious seal that will come near the shore to check out the latest visitors, plus deer and wild turkeys on the property. At night, you’ll marvel at the sky filled with countless stars.
In summer enjoy your morning coffee on the wrap-around deck watching the sun rise and shimmer on the clear Maine water. A mooring awaits your own boat which you can cruise to local islands and coastal harbors and lighthouses. Or hop in your car for the beach (20 min) or outlet shopping at leading retailers and L.L. Bean’s only a half hour away in Freeport. Also check out nearby Bath and its renowned Maine Maritime Museum and take one of their cruises or the tourist coastal train to Rockland from Bath.
Later for lunch and/or supper, enjoy cooking out at our river-side fireplace or on the grill at the screened porch overlooking the water. (On rainy days, enjoy eating on the porch or at our dining room table also looking out at the water.)

This was our first experience renting a private property for a vacation and we hit the proverbial "pot of gold". I am almost reluctant to write this as I am affraid (totally selfish) that if word gets out regarding what a wonderful experience we had renting from Barbara and Dar, that it will never be available when we want to come back .. .and we definitely will. We did not "rent a house" for 2 weeks, but stayed in a "home". A home that is warm, inviting and has such a sense of serenity about it. They were the most wonderful "hosts", ensuring that we had every bit of information about the area at our fingertips. Barbara's wonderful taste is evident in every room and everything you could ever want to make your stay enjoyable was provided. The views are spectacular!!! We particularly loved sitting down by the river every night enjoying fire, conversation of dear friends/family and watching the day end and welcoming the night. You will not regret your visit to their home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: We first summered on the land (in a summer barn) our four children. In 1998 we moved to Maine (Bath), then moved into this family home in 2005. Our family still visits (now with two daughter-in-laws and three grandchildren). We are pleased to open our home to others who want to have a relaxing and fun summer vacation on the coast of Maine.
Why the Owner Chose Phippsburg:
We did not intend to buy a summer rental, but we have so enjoyed living (and thus summering) here, that we want to provide that opportunity to others - whether families, or couples (including groups of couples) or even those who want to get away by themselves - to rest, to read, to commune with nature, to write, to sit on the beach, whatever restores and revitalizes you.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The home is relaxing and connected to nature with a wrap around deck that provides different views of the river, plus sliders as well as a porch. The place veritably invites rest, relaxation and inspiration. The river with its tidal currents provides a rhythm and many moods. You can easily get out on the water (in your own boat - a boat launch is 5 min up river, and you can keep it at the property) to enjoy the Maine coast - or access nearby shops, restaurants, museums and theatres.
