    Our whole family of 13 have recently returned to the UK from a most enjoyable holiday staying at Cool Hill House. The property was recommended by friends who had stayed there and booking it directly with Marilyn was very easy and entirely straight forward. Her advertising very accurately reflected the property and facilities on offer and on arrival we were met by her Mother who made us all most welcome. We hired two people carriers from Stoutes Cars and they very kindly gave us a car and driver to take our luggage and lead us from the airport to Cool Hill after dark. We would never have found it on our own because the sign posts throughout the Island leave an awful lot to your local knowledge. We were so grateful to Ann Stoute and it summed up just how everyone is in Barbados. Nothing is ever too much trouble and you are always greeted with a big smile. The House was just what we wanted with 7 grandchildren under six, but it was a bit tired. The beds were comfortable, the air con was good, the bathrooms and kitchens were fine and the comfortable chairs and sofas allowed us to relax and watch coloured TV if the kids wanted to before going to bed . When we arrived the house was spotless and the cleaner came in every 3rd day which was such a help and avoided us having to do it. Cool Hill suited us perfectly and everyone was so kind and helpful, when we needed to replace the cooking gas the guy arrived with a new bottle within an hour of us contacting Marilyn’s mum. The swimming pool was cleaned every 3rd day. We all enjoyed it after a day on the beach and the BBQ, table and chairs, lounger beds and toys were all very well used and very much appreciated. The Beaches on the west coast are beautiful and predominately sandy, with some having coral running out from the beach. You will easily find the one to suit your own personal dreams, but you will need a car. The east coast beaches with the rolling Atlantic waves are great to visit when you want a day out of the sun. The north tip of the island is certainly a must for the dramatic cliffs which give you some fond memories of your holiday. Yes, I would recommend Cool Hill for the type of superb family holiday we have just had. It was brilliant but the house isn’t going to suit everyone. For those who want a more sophisticated Caribbean holiday then they may wish to look more up market, but you won’t get better value for money,

    Our family of ten recently stayed at Cool Hill House. It is a large house and everyone had their own space. The children especially enjoyed the large swimming pool. We can definitely recommend Kirk, the chef who will come into the house and prepare meals. He is the nicest, kindest person we encountered during our stay and his food was wonderful. A car is definitely needed if staying at this property.

    Dear Marilyn Just a brief note to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Coolhill House. We were able to meet up with old friends and enjoyed relaxing in the sun while it snowed at home. We all enjoyed Kirk’s cooking and used him whenever he was available. Thanks to your Mum for her attentiveness to any problems we had – they were always sorted out quickly. We have an 80th birthday celebration coming up in 2015 and were wondering if you have any vacancies in February 2015. I know it is a long time away but better to be safe than sorry !     This was the most disappointing property that I have ever rented through the VRBO website. This place is not worth the price they are quoting. The view from the rear of the home is pleasant but the water is miles away. The front of the home facing unfinished run down properties were we couldn't tell if they were occupied or abandoned. After the initial culture shock we decided to accept that we were just in a different country and their idea of luxury just wasn't they same as ours but after so many things that were just not right we decided I felt I had to let the next guest know how bad this property really is. The home overall is dated and basically falling apart. The furnishings are dated, soiled and falling apart. The bathrooms are dated and dingy. The screens for the doors don't work allowing all kinds of bugs and flies into the home. The linens and towels are old and dingy. During our stay we had several issues with lighting not working, a television not working, broken shower rods, a downstairs sink clogged, and the pool side bathroom flooded from the rains. Our complaints to the owner led to the her sending someone over and us spending half a day of our vacation waiting on him to make repairs. The owner offered no type of refund or accomodations for our disappointment in the property. This led to us leaving the property early to try and salvage our vacation. I would not recommend this property to anyone, EVER!!!

    Owner response: After years of accommodating so many wonderful people and receiving just about the most reviews on any vacation website we were shocked to receive this particular review. However we decided to allow it to be shown to future renters and address each issue as related.....Our price is very competitive and with the average group numbering nine it is absolutely a bargain. The view from the front of the house is of a large home that is neither run down nor abandoned. It has windows and doors none of which are broken....The owner is building his dream home at his own pace without the use of a mortgage...this is typical in all the Caribbean Islands. The view from the back of the house overlooking the pool and toward the West Coast is indeed pleasant. The beach is less than one mile from the house not miles away. Culture shock the definition-Culture Shock is the personal disorientation a person may feel when experiencing an unfamiliar way of life. How can one experience this shock when one is amongst a nation of people of one’s same race and heritage? CoolHill House has furniture and decor that is both modern and appealing. The bathrooms are offered clean....maid service is available at $50.00 USD per day, it is advisable to use this service but some choose to clean the house and bathrooms daily on their own. Screen doors are always a problem because guests are constantly walking into them, we are now using the retractable screen doors and these sometimes retract by themselves. The installer is seeking to get stronger magnetic locks. The linens and towels are not old and dingy. The light bulb in the kitchen did go out and was replaced. CoolHill House has 3 42 inch TVs none of which are broken. The technician who set up the cable was called in turns out the reported broken TV was off the correct setting. A pressure shower rod was reported as fallen on the 5th day of the expected 7 night stay, the spring was broken and a new rod was replaced that day. Sink clogged.....Drano. June - November is the rainy season, the pool side bathroom does flood when it rains especially when the door is left open. There is no reason to stick around the property if someone is called in. If guest are concerned about their personal property there is safe at CoolHill House to store any valuables. Asking for a refund a day before departure is questionable.

    Marilyn, Just wanted to let you know that we arrived home and are already missing the serenity and loveliness of Barbados. What a wonderful place! You were right.....the people are the jewel of that island! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Your mom is a gem and your home is very relaxing and peaceful! We found the beaches pristine and the water very warm. We swam with the turtles, took a catamaran sunset cruise Silver Moon Catamarans Highly recommend them! Tubing on the ocean, cliff diving, visited the green monkeys, orchid gardens, animal and flower cave, earth works pottery, and spent time in the Crane Resort and their beach. We drove around every bit of the island and got lost a couple of times on back roads, but everybody was very willing to help get us back on the right path. The east side of the island is so different from the west. Really diverse scenery as you know and very beautiful. Taking your advice, we ate in mainly the small local places. Orange Grocer and Deli in Speightstown was particularly good. Nick the owner was quite the character. We tried all the local cuisine and found it very tasty. The rum shacks make some pretty mean rum punch! Very good! Spagos in Holetown is was very good and our last meal on the island before coming home. The fish market in Speightstown had a great selection of fish for us to grill back at the house and the lady there was so helpful with advice on how to cook everything we bought. It all came out wonderfully! I was able to master driving on the opposite side pretty easily and love the idea of round abouts instead of red lights! We cannot say enough good things about Barbados! Everybody told us that we needed two weeks instead of one to visit everything and they are right. We will definitely return with hopefully more time! Thank you for the fruit basket, Rum, and letting us use your home. It was wonderful vacation and I will highly recommend it to our friends! Thanks again! Mark & Susan

    Oh Marilyn! I LOVE BARBADOS! It is definitely my favorite island, and we are already talking about coming back next april. We had a wonderful trip and your house and grounds were beautiful! More than what we expected them to be. I can't thank you enough for all your suggestions and information provided. We took you up on about 90% of your suggestions and were NOT dissapointed! The only unfortunate thing that happened was, my husband lost his prescription glasses in the ocean, THE FIRST DAY! So, he couldn't see to read menus, couldn't really see to drive and get this, he was the only one covered by insurance to drive. It was quite scary for all in the car until he got the hang of it...which took a few days! oh my! I have to say again, your house was so beautiful, inside and out. I loved the spaciousness of it! The bottom apartment was adorable! (My brother-in-law stayed down there and said he loved it) The pool was such a wonderful extra! We would hit the beaches around 9ish and stay until 1ish...then head home to swim in the pool and laze around until dinner reservations. Simply wonderful! I might add, that there were many, many places to hide Easter eggs from the Easter bunny that Sunday as well! (we headed to The Crane for our Easter brunch with the gospel choir and then spent the day on the beach there. It was heaven on earth!) Your mother is a peach!     Every year myself and a some of my boys plan a man trip just to get away from the wives, and everyday life in general. This year we selected Barbados. We decided to rent a home just so that we weren't cramped... and we were super satisfied with the space. Coolhill house accommodated us better then when we could have ever expected.... We had more room then we knew what to do with!! Perfect for a large family get away, or just friends who want to take a trip like us. Everything that we need was in the house.... and more!!! I would suggest renting a car because some of the beautiful scenery, and attractions of the island are a little ways away, but definitely not to far at all. We had a ball, and are already planning another trip back... Thank you Marilyn for your patience when my bank gave me problems.... and Thank you Alicia for you wonderful hospitality! you guys were awesome!

    Stayed here with a group of 7 friends and it was amazing. The two separate apartments worked great for us. Walking distance to gas station, which was very easy to catch a bus from to get to the beach or Speightstown bus station. If you hire a car during your stay, even better. The house was very clean and the pool was great for an evening swim. The neighborhood is nice, and we even made friends with some of the neighbors. Kitchens were fully equipped and large enough for several people to be working in at a time. I would definitely recommend this house to friends and family. If we return with a large group we will definitely make sure we stay at CoolHill House again.

    I cannot say enough good things about this property. We had a group of 9 and we had ample space - the house had everything we needed. The owners were very responsive and extremely helpful before and during our visit by recommending car rental, grocery stores, surf lessons, etc. They even arranged a late night airport pick up for one of our guests and called back to make sure she arrived safely. The photos and description of the property are accurate - this was our first rental and we were a bit nervous about "sight unseen", but no worries -- it is exactly as described and such a great value! One of our favorite spots was the pool, we started and ended our days there . . . so relaxing and peaceful! The neighborhood is quiet and safe and all the people are so friendly -- our only regret is that we did not have more time. We will definitely come back and would love to stay at Cool Hill House again.

    Hello Marilyn, The villa was decorated so nice! It was really nice time place for my 40th birthday celebration with my girlfriends! ~Suggestions for possible improvement would be thicker towels. Just a small note: If you know someone is celebrating something special at the villa, it would be nice to give that visitor a small token be it a card or just a one minute phone call to give them a well wish for that special moment for them. Overall it was a nice experience! Loved, loved Kurt, he was actually half the price you had quoted and he went out and bought the food for us! I would love to send him a card or something if you have an address for him! Stud was great as well but we learned to get around on the 2nd day by bus so that was our form of transportation throughout the trip.

    We stayed at Marylin and Dales for 2 weeks...This place is a must! When we arrived we where greeted with a cold drink by the owners who keep this place in amazing order. Your trip to this home is located close to all the best beach spots along the north and west coasts. Everything here is so close yet we felt away from all the tourists in our on special spot on the hill with all the wonderful locals. The pool is the best! Each day we returned from touring the island to enjoy the wonderful private pool. The owners are wonderful and offer lots of information on how to hang with the locals in all the best spots. We had such a blast with this wonderful family in their wonderful home. The home offers a perfect blend of feeling like you have local hosts nearby yet total privacy. When we return to Barbados this is where you will find us!

    Many thanks to Marilyn and Dale for their hospitality and wonderful Cool Hill House during our special birthday party in Barbados. The house is incredibly comfortable with ample room for all of us to stay. Evening sunsets by the pool were very beautiful every night Marilyn and Dale were wonderful hosts introducing us to the local culture and people, which gave us a unique taste of Barbados. The cooks they arranged for us prepared a delicious local meal that started our stay off fabulously. Too bad Dale couldn't control the Ocean during our fishing trip. Anyone considering a vacation in Barbados should lconsiderCool Hill House as an excellent place to stay.

    My wife surprised me with an unexpected flight to Barbados and she even arranged to have 4 other couples meet us to stay at the cool house. I could not have asked for better accomodations and the group had a great time. The owners Marilyn and Dale really went out their way to make sure everything was perfect for our stay. The house is so comfortable and the pool is so fantastic that I could have stayed in the water and not left the house for the entire trip. But luckily I listed to our hosts and went exploring the nearby beaches and there is so much to see and do that I will make sure to go back ASAP! The house was perfect in every way and exactly as advertised - but the best part was the help that Marilyn and Dale (and the kids) provided. Bruce

    What a wonderful place! We had a great time celebrating B's 50th birthday. Plenty of room for all ten of us. Many Thanks to Dale and Marilyn for all they did to make our visit special, from Marva and Shirley that took care of our housekeeping, our Chef's Kirk and Kevin and of course our driver "Kat". Cool Hill House was like our own private resort only better, enjoyed the sights as well as just staying on the "Hill" We're already talking about "next time" look forward to seeing you guys soon!

    After one of the coldest winters on record, with snow totals exceeding 90 inches, spending a week at the Cool Hill House was just what the doctor ordered!! The house is beautiful yet comfortable, warm and welcoming. Not that we spent that much time indoors!! The combination of Barbados weather and the wonderful pool/patio/sunning area of the house kept us playing outside until well past bedtime. Super house and great amenities aside, our Barbados vacation was definitely a huge success due in large part to the time and effort extended to us by the owners, Dale & Marilyn. Their local knowledge, island contacts and eagerness to do anything they could do to help us enjoy our vacation, was remarkable and truly appreciated. I don't know what I enjoyed more, the great property or the hospitality of this wonderful family!! Thanks so much you two! Until next time... fair seas and following waves. - pam

    Hello Marilyn , Thank You for your kind thoughts. I am pleased to see that it rained on Monday , every little bit helps. The pepper sauce made it home ok and we are enjoying it , thank you. The weather in Toronto is above average for this time of the year , we are at 10 C which is not normal. On behalf of the family , Norm , Chris , Vivian , Wanda and Verna , we really enjoyed our stay at Coolhill House , your hospitality was A1 , and thanks again to Dale for taking Norm , Chris and Myself sightseeing and introducing us to cutter sandwhiches , we are hooked forever. Also , Vivian and I will be arriving in Barbados on Feb. 1 , 2011 on the Emerald Princess , and I would love to take you guys to lunch. Best wishes ,

    Dear Marilyn and Dale, The two months we spent in Barbados were priceless. We sincerely loved staying at CoolHill House, and in fact we are hoping to come back sometime in the near future. The island was so serene, the waters so clean, and the people so nice. You guys also made it more amazing with your lovely home and the warmth of your entire family. I'm going to miss all those hot sunny days in the fantastic pool, and grilling in the back. Hopefully we get to come back soon. OG, her mum Irene, and the kids send their love to you all, and Marva.     We trully enjoyed the stay at the Coolhill house. This was a perfect vacation that we will never forget. We hope to be back one day.     Marilyn: Just a little note to let you and Dale know how much we appreciated your hospitality during our stay at Cool House. Everything really went well. Let Dale know that today is the rematch of the Pittsburgh - Uconn basketball game. Hopefully Uconn will win this one. We are all going to get together tonight at Dean & Robins' house to share our pictures and discuss our trip. Tell Dale that I found some of the Mout Gay Rum and I am going to try to make some of the Barbados Rum Punch tonight. I know it won't be as good as at Barbados but maybe it will help deal with all this snow that we still have to get rid of. Thanks again and I hope that we all have the chance to visit you all again soon!

We are having a 'reunion' this Saturday at Robin and Dean's. We are going to share photos and all. Maybe a little rum too! Dale~ we are watching Pitt vs Marquette. Pitt is doing well but we do hope that UConn can get revenge from the last game. We will be rooting for UConn at 12:00 on Saturday! Keep in touch! We will send more pictures.     26/2/09 12/3/09 Dear Marylin & Dale, We,ve all just had the most wonderful holiday in your beautiful villa. There were 11 of us and there was so much space for us all to feel really comfortable. You've thought of everything to make it feel like home from home.We saw alot of the island and were made to feel so welcome everywhere we went.Keith and Steve will never forget the wonderful golf experience you gave them Dale, and cant wait to show the photo's to their mates.     Marilyn and Dale (My Brudda), Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation on your beautiful island. Coolhill House was the perfect place for our stay. It's homelike atmosphere with such an awesome island location. Your indground pool and it's surroundings made the evening swims so romantic. We have never traveled out of the country till now ! Boy Barbados was the perfect first choice to visit. The experiences ie the wildlife reserve where you do see monkeys eating on the turtle's back, the tour of the cave , the night life ( Harbor Lights ),rum shacks ,the friendly & kind people.     Dale and Marilyn, Thanks for our beautiful memories of Barbados! Cool Hill House is the ultimate island paradise! Your attention to detail made it extra special!!     Owner response: We started this new year off with a warm welcome to our first guest of the year. It was an absolute pleasure to share CoolHill House our vacation home and Barbados our island home with you guys! Lots of rum (too much the first day), the out of the way sights known only to locals along with the usual "tourist spots", partying to calypso music in the sand under the moonlight at a local night beach club and eating grilled fish at Ju Ju's beach bar with captain John after swimming with the Turtles and the reef fish. Kevin you said you wanted to swim in blue water and you sure did! Dale says "nuff respect my brudda! Louise and Darlene you got some great pictures of the kids inches from the monkeys at the reserve and that photo of the monkeys sitting on your rental Jeep! priceless...maybe the car rental company could use that photo in their advertisements. Frank thanks for teaching me how to use my four wheel drive when I got stuck on the sand on the East Coast and again when I rolled into the muddy ditch at the North Point! what is the sense of having four wheel drive on an island and not use it aye! Hope to see you guys again on Barbados and at CoolHill House and "GO STEELERS!"

    We have enjoyed another 2 weeks at CoolHill House, weather back home was -25 and snowning...so glad to be here. We love Barbados, the people, the island and CoolHill House. We reserved feb 09, 10th anniversary next year!

    hi marilyn has been a while since i last e-mailed. hope you and hubby are keeping well. we have been back to Barbados every year but have not allways stayed at the coolhill house as there has only been grace and i. but i just wanted to say after our 14+ visits i loved the coolhill house,and reading the guestbook just show us on what we are missing.i am trying to get all my family to come out with us in 2008,grace and i are coming over christmas day (2007) for 14 days can not wait.will let you know as soon as all the family decide what they want to do. all the best Steve & Grace

    Just got back from staying at Coolhill. Had a brilliant time. The villa was spacious and homely. Home from home we call it. House keeping were very friendly, loved them to bits. Ate out in some of the best places by the sea. Myself and my family (all 10 of us) have decided to book for 2008. Marilyn thank you so much. You and your kids are lovely. If I have only one fault it would be that house keeping should come twice a week. Once again thank you for making our stay in Barbados memorable. Very much kind regards Michelle xxxxxxxxx

    Hi Marilyn, Just a quick note to thank you for all your help while we were there. The house was perfect for our stay and we all had a great time in Barbados.     Cool Hill House is the best! It is beautiful, clean and nicely furnished. Cool Hill House is conviently located. Everything was an easy drive and at the same time far enough away for us to relax and enjoy our vacation. The views are AWESOME! The private pool is the best. Cool Hill House is easy to find and in a nice residental neighborhood. The area is nice, clean and safe. Barbados was a great island. We saw everything! The mountainous landscape we did not expect. Barbados is absolutely breathtaking! I can't tell you how many times someone said "Stop the car, I need to take a picture!" A vacation to Barbados would not be complete with out a sail and snorkel on the Silver Moon -- make reservations for the Silver Moon (II I think) that only holds about 12-14 people. The personalized service is the best and you get to know the others. All the meals on the island were fantastic. Not to be missed is dinner at Flyndts, Jumbies and the Blue Monkey. Marilyn is a great. She met us at the airport and showed us around Cool Hill House. My children are 12 and 15 and they loved everything. They want to know when we can go back. The only thing I could have asked for was another week off from work!

    Our 2 weeks at Cool Hill House for our first ever family vacation was a dream come true. It was perfect in every way. Our family (mom, dad, grandma, 5 year old and 2 year old) didn't want for a thing and in fact there were a few very pleasant surprises like a toy box, DVDs, and a global internet phone which meant I could call home and check up on my father who was very sick without worrying about buying phone cards. Marilyn met us at the villa and showed us around while two lovely ladies made our dinner of flying fish. There was lots of room and every amenity that we could want. We never used the air conditioners as we found a lovely breeze blew through the villa which also kept bugs away. The pool was a welcome treat at the end of the day or anytime for the kids who loved the shallow end and the seat that allowed them to walk around. Having access to a washer and dryer meant not having to pack for 14 days worth of clothes. Cool Hill House was completely relaxing and close to everything we wanted. We drove into Holetown most days for shopping or picking up odds and ends. Marilyn arranged for a car that was delivered to the villa and we got many miles and much enjoyment out of it. The beaches were wonderful and so was the north east coast. We drove to Bridgetown and to Ocean World. The people of Barbados are welcoming and very friendly and made us feel completely at home. We loved discovering new beaches and new roads. Marva came to the villa in the middle of our stay and changed the sheets and washed the floors which was an unexpected treat. We are checking our calendar and booking again for next year. It made such an impact on our 5 year old that her first day at school she painted a picture of a blue house with a palm tree and a rainbow. Her teacher tells us she talks in great detail about her time in Barbados. Gail Brown

    Absolutely fantastic fortnight at Coolhill house. Even my husband was happy because he could play on the computer while I relaxed by the pool. Would recommend to anyone who wants to see the sights and get into the culture. Thank you so much for your accommodating attitude all the time we were there. We can't wait to come back!!

    Thank you, a honeymoon in paradise, loved every minute of it, snorkeling, diving, eating and the local rum shops have the best food.     This was a fantastic vacation! Having been to the neighboring islands of St. Vincent & the Grenadines alone with my hubby 2 years ago, I knew from flying into Barbados that I would be back...next time with the kids. We vacationed with friends and their two children. The pool at Coolhill House is what saved us when we just wanted to be home relaxing on the upper deck of the house or down by the pool. The kids never got bored! Barbados is a place that just gets under your skin, once you've been, all you can think about is getting back again soon! Coolhill House is the perfect place to vacation with your family or friends. We found out that Speightstown is more of an "out of the way" tourist spot so you will really be mingling with the locals (who are the most friendly and wonderful people). We had the best time at the beach close to Six Men's Bay. The Fish Pot restaurant is a must-do as is the Thursday night-Saturday night fish fry at Moontown. I am already working on our next vacation to Barbados and we just got back a week ago. Thanks Marilyn for all of your help beforehand and CoolHill house definitely get 2 thumbs up from our party...you'll be seeing us again soon! PS-We found the missing GameBoy game!

    Marylin, Thank you so very much for allowing us the use of your beautiful property to get out of the busy city and away from work. Everything was so beautiful and everyone was so very nice. We greatly enjoyed the pool and the girls loved having the Masseuse come by the house. The food, both at restaurants and that we cooked there at the house, was the best ever. A few couples even ate at some of the top 50 restaurants in the world; something not to affordable here in the states but was very decently affordable there. Snorkeling in the Caribbean was wonderful, Bridgetown had great shopping for the girls and the guys, and Harbor Lights was a great time. Getting around the island was alot of fun too. They are superb drivers there! Harrisons cave and the Northern End of the island were amazing. The surf at the "Soup Bowl" and "Parlour" was incredible, as was the surrounding reef. Everyone has agreed, we can not wait to come back, and once again, thank you soo much!

    Dale,Marilyn,Jade,Emily,William and Mom. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to experience such a wonderful island filled with so much culture and history. Your people are so friendly and helpful and you should be so proud to be apart of them as I know you are. It was great meeting all of your family and sharing a bite or two. They are all very special, even Dale. Swimming with the turtles and fishes at Port St. Charles was a real treat(pictures to follow). Getting RUMMED up and hanging at the pool was so right. More people need to do this and take a time out from their busy lives to realize there are other worlds out there besides the little ones they live in. This was a fantastic and special way for us to have spent our 25th. It will remain with us forever. We will be back!!! Your house was perfect, we absolutely loved it.     Our large and widely dispersed family came together for a reunion and a birthday celebration at CoolHill House. We could not have chosen a better place! The young people enjoyed the fabulous pool, the older ones the beautiful view and gorgeous sunsets, the spacious accommodation and the fact that we were not on top of each other: plenty of space for everybody. The house has everything you could possibly need for a vacation, and the nearby, attractive town of Speightstown supplied necessary food and services. Nearby Little Good Harbor provided the family with the freshest fish imaginable.Everywhere, friendly people, marvellous beaches, a brilliantly blue sea and the feeling of a marvellous holiday on a lovely island. Without CoolHill House, nothing would have been as special as it was.
