BEAR HAVEN consists of almost 30 acres of gently rolling land - half woods and half a hidden meadow with complete privacy. The small house was built by hand over several years of weekends by my late husband and myself. It was a Magnificent Obsession and friends tell me the house vibrates with it! It consists of one large room that is kitchen and dining room, a living room with gas fireplace, an upstairs cozy bedroom and bath, plus a full bath on the first floor.
The new master bedroom on the first floor has two walls and half the ceiling made of glass. Sleeping there is as close to being under the stars as you can get, while remaining snuggly inside. It has a gas fireplace for chilly evenings and it's own private deck hanging out into the woods.
A large screened porch on one side looks out at the meadow where deer browse at dawn and dusk. A deck on the other side of the house looks into the woods where the wood thrush sings.
The in-ground pool is surrounded by lush gardens. There is an open sided Pool House with its own bath and kitchenette.
My husband's old Tool Shed has been converted into an adorable cottage with it's own fireplace, bathroom, kitchenette, deck, and outdoor shower that looks back into the woods - it's a wonderful experience!
The home is not child proofed, so please, no children under 18.
Shenandoah National Park with all it has to offer is a 30 minute drive as is the famous Inn at Little Washington.

Week $2,000
Extra nights $300 each.
ADD $200 per stay if you prefer my cleaning people to change sheets & do laundry.
Otherwise you are expected to leave it ready for the next guest.

Why the Owner Chose Sperryville
We bought 30 acres of land intending to move an old log cabin to it and modernize it, but that contractor turned out to be a crook and so we camped out for two fun years. Then we set out to build just a simple shack to hold our camping equipment and things got out of control! We had so much fun that first summer learning about building and seeing someting actually come up from the ground that we just kept on going - ten years of weekends and lots of love went into this cabin in the woods and my friends say the house vibrates with it.

Where to start? Maybe with the sound of the wood thrush echoing through the spring woodlands? Maybe the chorus of frogs singing me to sleep on spring nights? Maybe the sight of deer in the meadow early in the morning mist, or the occasional bear trying to raid the bird feeders? Or, how about skinny dipping in the pool after working in the garden? (No one can see you - it's total privacy!) Or just taking my book to sit with my feet in the pool and whiling away a few hours in the sun? Or maybe watching the sunset over the mountains with a cocktail on the screened porch .... it's really hard to say what makes me love this place so much.

Here I am with the light of my life, the fabulous Ms. Lulu - my marvelous granddaughter. How lucky I am! I have two really great kids, two wonderful homes, a challenging career, which I am winding down, lots of great friends, and I had a fabulous marriage from which I am widowed. Ok, not so lucky there, but lucky to have had him!
