This lovely Kensington apartment is in Cornwall Gardens which is a quiet, residential area lying just off Gloucester Road with its tube station and varied selection of good neighbor-hood shopping. The houses surrounding the central, private gardens are tall and elegantly fronted with palladian-style porticoed front entrances. This is an extremely popular apartment, so please book early to avoid disappointment!
The public entrance hall is smart and the lift takes you to the second floor after which there is a half flight of stairs to our flat's front door. Inside, the small hallway leads into a lovely living-room with large windows overlooking the street and gardens. A pair of sofas flanks a handsome fireplace with electric fire. There are bookshelves, a writing desk, attractive lamps and other nice touches, creating an atmosphere of relaxation and comfort. There is a digital television with free view channels, and a phone/fax.
The dining area has a good sized dining table with three chairs and a door leads from this area into a very well equipped, modern kitchen. There is a combined washer/dryer, a dishwasher, excellent stove and 'fridge/freezer.
Across the hallway from the living room is a door leading into a very smart bathroom with creamy/beige marble tiles, a full-length bathtub with overhead power shower. Next door is the double bedroom with queen-size bed. This room is wonderfully light, and a few steps up lead directly into a small conservatory with table and deck chairs. From this, one can go down to a good-sized roof deck with table and seating. Excellent hanging cupboards and shelves. The whole apartment is liberally supplied with storage cupboards. Nice flat, great location
Nice flat, great location
This is a very attractive flat, well furnished and well equipped, and wonderfully located. The building is quiet and secure. And it's a super neighborhood, with close-by shops, tube, SoKen museums, and a couple of brilliant local restaurants, etc. Problems were few. We were puzzled by the periodic shut-down of the washing machine until we realized that it was on the same (switched) circuit as a group of kitchen lights. (In USA electrical codes would not permit such a setup.) No instruction explained this odd feature. And the non-stick fry-pans in the kitchen were worse than worn out - their decomposing teflon actually is toxic, so these should have been replaced long ago. But otherwise, all was just fine. The woman who met us was helpful and cheery; she even had put flowers on the dining table. The agent dealt very supportively with our delayed arrival (due to multiple cancelled flights) but we've yet to see how or if that reduced level of use may have impacted our final charges. We'd gladly rent this place again (in fact, probably will). Thanks!

Owner response: I would just like to mention to any potential guest that in the Welcome Letter which I send a few weeks before arrival I write: "We make every effort to ensure that your apartment is as clean and well-maintained as it should be, but if you do find a problem during your stay, PLEASE don’t wait until you return home to tell us, but let us know straight away so that we have the opportunity to rectify it." We always respond as quickly as possible to any problems, and I would, of course, have arranged for a maid to purchase new pans and deliver them the same day, had I been notified (this has now been done). Regarding the washing machine, this isn't a situation that we have ever come across in the 15 or more years we have rented out this flat. I would like to stress that if a guest experiences any problems a quick phone call to us enables us to talk through any technical difficulties, or if that fails, we send someone to help.
We stayed for 8 days. The cost given the size and location of the flat was very reasonable. The property agent Heart of London we found very helpful. Given the small size of the elevator be prepared to carry luggage up 3flights. While on balance we enjoyed the flat especially it's size and the kitchen and laundry facilities be advised that the pillows and sofas are less than firm!
