a spacious, quiet environment full of sunlight, we sat on the deck and watched bald eagles ( three) and a killer whale pod go by...... and then the deers came around for a visit, can't wait to come back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

This has to be one of my all-time favorite vacation spots -- a beautiful home with amazing views, lots of room, and relaxing peace-and-quiet. At age 54, it has become harder to get a full night's sleep, but here I had a good 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night -- there is something about the air on these islands! As for the property, the owner has put a lot of thought into providing everything needed for a great vacation, including a very well-equipped kitchen. Overall, well worth the trip!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

We truly enjoyed our 3-day stay at this beautiful vacation home, perched right up on a bluff over the ocean. Sat on the large, sunny porch all morning, watching the killer whales which were no more than a stone's throw from the shore. Scenic property, well-equipped kitchen, BBQ on the porch, 5 beds plus a foldout couch, and a foosball table on the lower floor. All in all, an easy recommendation for anyone looking to spend some time on Pender.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

The home was everything we hoped it would be....and then so much more. The eagle past our window several times a day and sat on his perch next door. Watched him catch a fish so large he had to swim to shore. That was truly a first for us. Twice large pods of killer whales swam right in front of the house. The deer came every morning and evening waiting for their apple. The farmers market on Saturday is a must with wonderful baked goods, art, jewelry, and music. It was just a magical time that we will never forget.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We had a fantastic stay at Arbutus Rock! We stayed a week with my brother and our 5 kids and Pender island was a total discovery for us: forests inhabited by deer, quaint cottages, rocky beaches waiting to be explored, lakes, mountains to climb and more islands to discover nearby. After a day full of adventures we were so happy to go back to Pauline's house and relax on the deck meditating or trying to spot killerwhales, seals or bald eagles which are nesting at 50 metres from the house. Arbutus Rock is a very comfortable property and extremely well located. We prepared feasts every day in the fully equipped kitchen, slept like logs in the king size beds and enjoyed watching good family movies in the evening. The football table was also a big hit with the kids and adults too as we did a tournament on a rainy day!Recommended for: People with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+.

We booked Arbutus Rock for a corporate retreat. The trip could not have been better. The home itself is spacious and full of amenities as described. Nestled amongst the arbutus trees and perched above the ocean the views are spectacular, especially from the hot tub. Pender island itself is quite amazing and full of character. We saw much wildlife - deers, eagles and killer whales. We would also recommend exploring the island, checkout the museum and stop by the Pender Island farm to buy some organic lamb. Delicious. As well you can cross the one way bridge to S. Pender and hike the mountain in the provincial park there - its an aggressive 45min hike but the views make it worthwhile. We would recommend this to anyone, and Pauline the owner is very prompt and nice to deal with.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers.

Myself and 7 good friends spent a wonderful new year's here, ringing in 2011. The place was well-equipped with kitchen implements, firewood to last a lifetime, and a hot tub that was ready to go when we arrived. I would recommend spending time here to anyone who asked. The sunset on New Year's Day which we watched from the rocks by the water iced the cake of a fabulous getaway!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.

This property has probably the prettiest natural setting of any vacation house I've rented. The views of islands and water are stunning; the sunsets were superb. A resident bald eagle hangs out in the area and occasionally flies right over the spacious deck. I saw orcas on three different days during my week...one day they were just a few metres offshore. Deer visit the area frequently. The constant boat traffic makes for an interesting scene. The property is nicely set up with a good kitchen and a barbecue grill on the deck. The cable car on the property makes luggage transportation easy and sets the house up for people with disabilities. All in all, my friends and I had an excellent vacation experience!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

Very spacious house for large family or group. The view was spectacular. Great kids' room with sloped floor that provided hours of fun. Kitchen was large and had tons of cluttered cabinetry making it difficult to find things, could be pared down and better organized. I would recommend a few quality knives instead of numerous old dull ones, for example. Decor was mixed, it has a bit of a half renovated feel to it. This house could be excellent with a bit of streamlining and updating but in general the view and spaciousness made up for the decor shortfalls. We would stay again.Recommended for: People with disabilities, families with young children, families with teenagers.
Owner response: The kids room is built right into the rock foundation (hence the name for the property "Arbutus Rock". It is a large room with two beds, one a queen size and the other a twin. The floor is level except right between the two beds so it acts as a slide. A terrific feature. Children love it because they can play "castle" when they walk up to the head of the bed and "rule" their kingdom. We appreciate the comments. Just after this comment we streamlined the kitchen and replaced the knives with ever-sharp ones. Also, we invested in new furniture to help provide a more cohesive look while maintaining a comfortable stay.

A beautiful property in a private setting. The house was very well equiped and easy to relax in. Within five minutes of arriving our party had music playing, a fire going and our feet up. What a place to watch the sun reflect on its last moments of illuminating the West Coast.
