It is true what they say about Molokai. The people living here are some of the nicest you will ever meet. No matter where we went on the island we were greeted with smiles and friendly conversation. My wife and I had been to Kauai three times and decided to try a new island on our recent trip. We settled on Molokai and found this wonderful cottage for rent. The place was open as we were told it would be and upon entering we were more than thrilled with our choice. Upon entering you could see the ocean, hear the waves and even see Maui in the distance. Walking the twenty feet to the ocean we noticed you could also see Lanai. Quite a beautiful location. The house is well kept by the wonderful property manager Aunty Joe. She met us our first night and answered the few questions we had. The place is stocked with all the amenities you will need to eat in. We used the kitchen every morning and the grill out back twice. Sitting on the deck during our morning coffee was truly remarkable. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to enjoy the laid back island of Molokai. Just remember, slow down and enjoy the ride on this island. It will not disappoint.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Molokai is a special place where the only thing that outshines the glowing landscape is the people that live and eat off the land. We loved the house. It gave us a sense of comfort the moment we walked in. Perhaps, it's because the house has a sense of being loved. While Peter, the owner, wasn't on the island, his family friend, Aunty Jo, was on hand, as were her husband, Uncle Howie, and their adult kids and their grandkids. That sums up the island: it's an island that welcomes you like family. Peter's house has all the necessary amenities. It sits on the ocean with beautiful views of Maui. You will see some lights there and think of Maui's razzle dazzle and feel far away and blessed to be on this less visited paradise.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

As my title implies, we had mixed feelings on this place. It is a great house (if anything better than we expected from the pictures), in a great location (car a must), with good snorkelling right out back (even in high winds as there is a large area inside the rock barrier, which we were limited to), and even 2 kayaks for use. However the upwind neighbor's patio is very close, and they are heavy smokers of both substances, and this was a problem for us, mostly on our own patio/backyard, but also occasionally inside (the bathrooms don't have glass windows, only screens). That said the neighbors are very nice people and did try to limit things, and the owner (who is also very nice) is planning to address the matter- hopefully he will be able to resolve it. I have mixed feelings about posting this- we are probably more sensitive to this problem than most, but as a doctor I feel an obligation here to anyone for whom it may be a concern.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hi Stuart. Thank you very much for the feedback. As always we are trying to improve the experience in every way possible for our guests. I am very glad that you liked the, house, location, beach, etc. I was very concerned to hear about the people in the rental nextdoor that were smoking a lot of tabacco and cigarettes, etc. Both myself and my property manager have had a discussion with the owners and their property manager and let them know of the issues. The owners of the rental next door a very nice people and we will certainly solve this problem immediately. Thanks and Aloha! Peter

Thank you!! Awesome house, nicer than what we expected. Perfect location; you could throw a pebble into the ocean from the deck! We had a wonderful relaxing and exciting vacation - lots of fun activities - morning walks on the beach, hiking to waterfalls, afternoon barbeques, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, etc. I can't wait to go back. Special thanks to property manager Aunty Joann who was wonderful and helped us with everything and anything. Also thanks to her sons who got us live lobsters and fresh fish!!! We had a great time in Molokai! We loved sleeping to the sounds of the waves, relaxing and escaping it all! We had a great time exploring this little island! No real contact with the outside world and that was awesome! Peter helped us arrange everything, Aunty Jo checked on us and we relaxed on this wonderful island! BBQ in the back yard, fresh lobster! all fresh produce from the farmers stand! cracked coconut and macadamia nuts... real Hawaii... we will return!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We have vacationed at this property for many years now and always look forward to our next time. The home is great for a small or large group. The view from the home is spectacular with a perfect view of Maui. The home is nicely furnished and immaculately kept with everything that you will need while vacationing. We had a wonderful time at this very unique beach house. It is located in a ideal place with great views, sandy beach, fishing, snorkeling and diving. You can hike to areas above the house or just enjoy looking out to the protected reef beyond. My wife and I stayed here for a week in early March, 2012 and enjoyed our stay very much. The beach, the bay, and views of Maui, are all stunningly beautiful and hiking the hills across the street was a very pleasant unexpected treat. We can also verify that given the torrential rains we experienced, the house is sound and does not leak! The listing was mainly accurate except that it should be noted that the TV only plays DVDs. The house was clean and the owner (plus the irreplaceable Aunty Jo!) were very responsive and helpful. We found the house to be charming, comfortable, and well-equipped for our needs. There are things that some may consider to be missing, but we found that lacking a TV, internet, and a dishwasher were benefits, not negatives. Besides, when the occasional island-wide power outage hits all that stuff is useless anyway! Grilling fresh reef fish outside and eating by candlelight is, as they say, "priceless". Molokai is best experienced by people who can adapt to its tranquil pace and appreciate its charm without expecting to live in the lap of luxury. There is adequate grocery shopping in Kaunakakai and a little store five miles from the house has DVDs, some food, supplies, and a walk-up grill. This property is an excellent place for those looking for a real-life Molokai experience and we are looking forward to a return stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! My husband and I visited Molokai in February to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary and stayed at this wonderful home. The pictures and description do not do this property justice, it is SO MUCH better! It was absolutely amazing. The sunrises were stunning and we watched the whales play every morning. Words cannot describe the feeling of sitting on the porch with a cup of coffee watching the sunrise and seeing whales no more than 300 yards out. The best part of the entire stay was the serenity. If you want peacful relaxation and to experience true Hawaii then this is the place to stay. The neighbors were wonderful and the locals that we met took the stay over the top. Thank you to Aunty Jo for making sure are stay was pleasant and thank you Kyle for taking us out fishing and giving my husband a fantastic fishing experience (he is still talking about the octupus!) We will definately be returning to Molokai and know that when we do this will be the home that we hope to stay. Thank you so much Peter for making this trip one we will never forget!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, romantic getaway.

Peter was very helpful in answering my questions. His property manager lives nearby for any additional questions or concerns that may come up. There are beautiful areas to hike, snorkel, swim or relax. There are a variety of restaurants within a 30 minute drive. I almost don't want to write this review for fear of it becoming too popular and not available for my next visit. The house and location are perfect for that get away retreat from computers , tv and all the trappings of the modern world. (we didnt bother using the tv). And why would you want them anyway wen you have the beautiful sea on your doorstep. Morning swims at 6.30am in the morning were warm (compared to nz) and. A great way to start the day. The house was spacious and all the amenities inside including grill outside and outside shower. I look forward to our next visit and next stay at Peteres house. Thanks Peter for allowing us to share your home and Jo for your help & support for our group during our stay. P.s. For those with disabilities (i.e. RA) in respect of being unable to walk on sand or uneven ground, the beach has hard sand and you would only need to. Walk approx 4 steps from solid ground to get to the hard Sand to get into the water then you can blissfully relax your limbs in the warm waters. For those without transport, there is a free daily bus service so you just need to find out what time the bus runs to get in and out of town.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

I stayed here for a few nights with my family, the photos did not do the property justice as the location, house and amenities were awesome. The property was clean and well maintained and had everything that you could want and more. To be able to swim whenever you wanted to at the back door was like stepping into paradise then to relax on the pourch in the evening with Maui across the water was a bonus. This is my 2nd trip to Molokai and I love the people who live here as they are so friendly and helpful. I would recommend to anyone thinking of renting this property to hire a car if you want to go sight seeing as the island has some beautiful places to go and see. I would recommend it to my family and friends and I hope to be able to come back there again in a couple of years if it is still available. Highly recommded! To the owner of the house thank you for a wonderful expercience. We just returned from our visit to Peter's house. The pictures all do justice to what you will find when you stay at his place. The house is a perfect beach house; simple and comfortable. It could use a dishwasher and a king size bed upstairs, but other than that it had everything we needed. Aunty Jo was helpful with information about what to do on the island. It's a very quiet island without much in the way of restaurants, so we bought all of our food in town and fixed it at the house. We bought some yellow tail tuna and shrimp from some people out of the back of their truck by the local grocery store in town and it was great. We took a boat trip, set up by Aunty Jo, around the tip of the island and saw some amazing waterfalls. Jules took us and we had a great time, and he even tried to catch us some fish on the way back, but unfortunately they weren't biting. The people are friendly everywhere you go. Take some good books, your mask, fins and snorkel and your camera so you can remember how beautiful everything is. One thing I wish I had known before I booked is that there are 4 or 5 houses listed on VRBO that are all on the same beach, very close to one another. Each is a little bit different with different things to offer. One final thought. Rent a car from Alamo (the only game in town) at the airport. There's lots to see and you'll need to run into town (about 19 miles) to get food and other things. Thanks Peter for sharing your beautiful spot with us! I can see why you like to go back there so often.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This Beach house is perfectly located and cottage comfy. You can kick back and relax here. The beach is wonderful and we whale watched every morning while enjoying our coffee on the deck. (mmm Molokai coffee) Caretaker Joann was kind and thoughtful and was able to help us arrange a boat trip to the north side to see the sea clifts. The Neighbors too were friendly and helpful. They showed us the best places to snorkle at Wailua beach. Thanks also to Eddie for an unforgetttable hike to Moaula Falls. We were amazed at the perfect climate. If spending quality, serene time with loved ones is paramount, this enchanting beach house, tucked away in the surrounding beauty of remote east Molokai, makes for the ideal getaway. There is just one road on that half of the island. From Kaunakakai, the road follows the coastline which features ancient Hawaiian fish ponds, charming lagoons, and many gorgeous, unoccupied beaches. From the Waialua Beach House, if you continue further east a few minutes the road ends at the visually striking Halawa Valley- with its stark cliffs, waterfalls, and spectacular views. From the beach lawn at the house I could look across the ocean at west Maui’s over-developed resort area and scoff at the fussing and hassling of those lesser vacation travelers as I cocktailed and barbecued in the grass with friends. I visited as part of two couples, and there was more than enough space and privacy in the 3 bedroom accommodation. The amenities were very adequate. The washer and dryer came in handy, and the bathrooms were nice. The stereo is equipped to adapt to any portable type music player (auxiliary cable input). There was no cable tv, but I was still able to catch my team lose in the playoffs, which I would have rather gone without. The home’s rustic nature and remote setting gave my stay a real sense of place- something that is lost in many vacation destinations that (over)cater to visitors. Taking twenty steps to go from the house to the ocean tickled me every time. My favorite part was snorkeling before breakfast every morning- way better than a cup of coffee. I would recommend a stay at the Waialua Beach House to vacationers with a real appreciation for natural beauty, looking to depart from the commotion of conventional vacation destinations.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Just thinking of this beach house instantly puts my mind at peace and also gives me the longing sensation of wanting to be back there right now. I've stayed at this rental on six different occasions over the years and each experience has fulfilled my soul in so many ways and had me dreaming about never leaving to go back home. It's such a wonderful feeling to wake up to the gentle sounds of the ocean lapping on the sand, just steps away from the front yard. The view from the deck is spectacular and I spent way more time there than in the house itself. Coconut palms perfectly frame a stunning view of Maui off in the distance, with nothing but pristine and glassy ocean in the foreground. Life slows down here as I spend my time diving and fishing in the morning, taking naps in the hammock during the afternoon and barbecuing outside with friends as the sun goes down. It's always a sad day when I realize that my vacation here has come to an end. Regardless I feel so lucky and special to have found this little gem and to be able to experience the joys of it annually. I like to call it my second home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Although my wife and I live on Maui, we wanted to go on a mini vacation. We heard about this rental through friends and decided to do a weekend trip. We hopped on the ferry to Molokai and rented a car which was waiting for us at the harbor when we arrived. After doing a complete drive around town(it's about two blocks) and shopping we headed out to the rental on the east side of the island. The drive was so beautiful and green with practically no one else on the road. As we pulled up to the house we couldn't believe how close it was to the ocean. The backyard is literally the beach, truly amazing. The caretaker of the house is one of the nicest persons I have ever met, she is a Hawaiian woman filled with the aloha spirit. Most of our time was spent relaxing on the beach, snorkeling out front, and even doing a nice hike above the house. We made it up to get a beautiful picture of a waterfall and looked down on the reefs of Molokai with Maui and Lanai in the background. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone of any age. I can't wait to go back! AlohaRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have stayed at Peter’s house for three different vacations now and have enjoyed it more each time. The location is ideal, the beach is literally right out your back door, and you can swim out to the reef for great snorkeling. My son enjoyed knocking coconuts down from some of the trees on the property and cracking them open for fresh coconut to eat. You have a great view of Maui from the back deck, and often see whales breaching off in the distance. There is an open loft upstairs bedroom that gives you privacy from the rest of house and it is the darkest (which I like) room in the house for sleeping. We like the location because of the beach and because it is just a short drive to local neighborhood store where you can get a great plate lunch. This is a great place to just hang out on the beach or deck and relax. I would highly recommend this house for a vacation rental.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

This gem is perfectly placed on the east side of the island. The sunrise is best viewed from the lazy hammock with a cup of coffee and a perfect view of Maui just across the way. A nice calm protected ocean awaits the swimmer in you. We cooked all of our meals fresh from the ocean on the outside grill even though the kitchen was well equipped. We even picked a coconut from the nearby tree for our sunset margarita. If you truly want to experience paradise, this beachhouse in Waialua, Molokai is perfect. Traveling to Molokai and staying at this beachhouse has become an annual tradition for my family and friends (though we're trying to change that to quarterly trips!). I was born and raised in Hawaii, but have never been so relaxed as when I stay here. It really is the perfect location with the serene ocean right out the backdoor, unbelievable fishing and diving straight out from the home, and super friendly people all around you. Hiking, swimming in natural pools, waterfalls, etc. are all minutes away. The renovated home itself has everything you need with a full kitchen, washer, dryer, etc. Clean bathrooms with lots of hot water! Peter (the owner) and Aunty Jo (the manager) have lots of aloha and local knowledge to share. If you want to relax like never before, this house in Waialua, Molokai is the place to be...just keep some days open for us!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I stayed here in August, and it was amazing! We kept asking ourselves "Is this real? Do we really get to stay here?" We didn't want to ever leave, and every time I think about Molokai or see a picture I want to go back. Hopefully we'll come back soon, and hopefully Molokai won't change. Peter, you must have had an amazing childhood growing up here!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

I don't know from where to start...I went there with my husband, my baby and couple of friends, we had the best vacation ever...to be in that house made me feeling that I was in the paradise. Beautiful location, amazing beach. I highly recommend this house, so peaceful, comfortable and fully equipped. I can't wait to go back there again. Special thanks to our friend Batel that discovered this unbelievable place and organized our best vacation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

WOW!! That pretty much explains our experience at the Wailua, Molokai rental. By far the best Hawaii rental my girlfriend and I have been at. If you are looking for true Hawaii with natural beauty this place has it all. My girlfriend and I spent one week at this place and didnt want to leave. During our week there we enjoyed the beautiful remote beach right in front of the rental. We did incredible diving and hiked to some beautiful remote waterfalls just behind the house. So many great activities to enjoy. The house is beautiful with hardwood floors and a fully equiped kitchen. It has a fireplace for barbecuing at night. Great beds with no outside noise at all. There is also no light pollution at night so you get an amazing show of the constellations and stars. I highly recommend this rental to anyone that really wants to experience the "true Hawaii". It is by far the best experience we have had in Hawaii and we have already planned another trip to Molokai in 2011. I stayed in this house in July of 2009 for 1 week, and cannot express how awesome a vacation it was. Isolated on a very remote beach, this house has all the great amenities (porch, HUGE living room, and plenty of bedrooms/bathrooms with furnished kitchen) and is ideal for beach dwellers looking for peace and quiet. There was also some bbq a few houses day one night which we were invited to with open arms. Do not pass this up for some quiet, beach house solitude!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I had such a wonderful time here, I highly recommend staying at this house. The views are wonderful, the house is well equipped and very comfortable and relaxing, it's right on the beach, the neighbors are friendly, altogether this was one of the best vacations I've ever had. I'm definitely going back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
