Charming & Roomy La Mesa Studio @ Great Price (Open to Home Exchange)

This is a lovely, newly remodeled, nicely furnished and conveniently located studio in a building by itself with complete privacy. We call if Oliver's Place.
The studio was completely remodeled in 2010, with upgrades added each year since. It seems more spacious than the average studio because of the vaulted, open beam ceiling. Many say the pictures do not do the space justice. Unexpected are the lovely open, unobstructed views out the spacious windows in 3 directions - to the hills of Mexico, Mission Valley and then to the highest peak in San Diego - Cowles Mountain. A new deck was added in June 2011 as well as a laundry room. Both add to the enjoyment and convenience of guests. 2012 has brought more creature comforts: a new Ortho mattress, GE AC that works wonderfully in the hottest of weather, and finally, a new 42' flat screen TV.
There is ample and convenient off street parking.
Hummingbirds and wrens and mocking birds visit the yard. There are hawks in the open sky and you can hear the clatter and large flocks of green parrots that visit the Eucalyptus and Jacaranda trees year round.
Just steps from the front door of this studio is the heart of the Village of La Mesa, an historic location known as the 'Jewel of The Hills' (click on the link below for La Mesa history and information). There are excellent restaurants, coffee shops, antique and specialty shops. Evenings are often filled with the sound of music from the local venues. The Friday Farmers Market bustles with activity year round. There is sunshine (the coast can be foggy), sunsets, hilly vistas and ocean breezes.
But you may be coming to San Diego for the famous attractions - the beaches, Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Coronado Island, San Diego Bay and events at Qualcomm Stadium. All those places are 10 plus or minus miles away from La Mesa (check out the map) and the freeways that take you there are just a half mile away from the studio. The trolley is handy and provides easy access to downtown San Diego (see link for the Trolley service) and everything between! Visiting San Diego State University? The trolley is the best way to get there because it drops you right on campus!
Whether you are here to visit family or friends who live here or just to vacation on your own we hope you will make our vacation rental a part of your plans.

My kids attended a debate tournament in La Mesa. This property was just perfect for us. It was clean and had everything we needed. We loved sitting on the deck in the evenings. The owners were quick to answer all of my questions. Thank you so much for a lovely stay!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a great time ! The studio met all of our needs, was very clean and the deck was an added bonus. Great location - we walked to the Farmers Market on Friday ( every Friday 2 - 6 ) and collected an assortment of fresh veges, fruit, bread and other items which were delicious. Also great little grocery store nearby - Sprouts - and an abundance of great restaurants in walking distance. Would defiantly stay here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for the review Susan. It is nice to get a big plug for our community too! Hope to see you back.

If you want an affordable place to stay in San Diego that is comfortable, quiet and close to pretty much everything this is an excellent choice. Anywhere you want to go in the San Diego area is an easy drive from this central location. (While San Diego is not a "no car" friendly place to visit, if you don't have a car available the Trolley, which will take you to downtown in about 30 minutes, is a short walk away.) The only negative we had was a plumbing problem on our last day. But a quick call to the handyman whose number is provided took care of the issue quickly. (I have had much greater problems that were not addressed in 6 Star hotels.) We were very satisfied with our experience renting Oliver's Place and will stay there again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for this very nice review. We are so pleased that Oliver's Place worked well for your San Diego stay. Telling your experience helps other's who are looking for convenient and pleasant accommodations. Regarding the plumbing problem; we are very, very upset that it happened. Your calm manner and quick response to call our super reliable handy-man saved the day! Please believe me that this is the first problem we have ever had with the plumbing....really!

My family and I enjoyed staying in this quaint cabin-esq retreat. The location was great, close to the trolley and lots of dinning options. Old downtown La Mesa is now called The Village and has fun shopping opportunities in the evenings within walking distance. We also enjoyed the view.Recommended for: Tourists without a car.

This was a very cozy, comfortable, well-furnished, and enjoyable studio. The kitchen area is new and beautiful, the bed is very comfortable, and the decor is all very interesting. We were there during a heat wave and were very comfortable thanks to a new air conditioner. Also, the washer and dryer are new and reliable. The deck provides a lovely view of the sunset. We were also impressed by the locale. The center of La Mesa is within easy walking distance and there are numerous restaurants and stores. It's easy to get to the supermarket and the interstate. The owners are nearby and very helpful. Overall, we were very pleasantly surprised and had wonderful stay.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

The studio we rented in San Diego was ideal for our needs and we could not have been more comfortable. The amenities provided were more than adequate and there wasn't anything we needed that wasn't there. I would strongly recommend VRBO as a means to find great homes away from home.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

We have just finished our first of what we hope are many more stays at Oliver's Place. Bill and Kathryn were affable hosts and very responsive to our needs. The night time views with the lights twinkling in the hills and off to the west were absolutely beautitiful. The views, coupled with the breezes flowing from the west, made this a most comfortable stay. Oliver's Place was all that was advertised, and much, much more. We were in walking distance or just a short drive to anything we wanted. Everyone we met in "The Village", and for that matter, in all of La Mesa, were very courteous and friendly. It made it hard to go home when our vacation was over.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway.

Great location: walk to excellent markets, quaint stores and good restaurants. Studio is perfect for couple or small family. Clean and comfortable, well equiped to stay in if you like. Easy access to all San Diego locations and events by freeway or walk to trolley for downtown or Old Town. Listing photos are accurate: big studio and access to patio deck. Don't forget sun block: mild sunny days will entice you out of doors to do whatever you like.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1996
About the owner: Long time La Mesa residents! Love to travel and love to use VRBO when we do travel. We are semi-retired - Geologist and Nurse Practitioner/Medical Anthroplogist.
Why the Owner Chose La Mesa:
La Mesa is (almost) always sunny! We find we like that quality as opposed to the fog that can be ever present right on the coast. So, living inland is our choice.
The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
A personal space, made more so with owner's travel momentos, rotating art from the main house, pottery, antiques handed down in the family.
