Among the delightful amentities not mentioned is the bountiful supply of papaya fruit that, along with provided Kona coffee, made up my daily breakfast. If you are not a fan of papaya, you might still enjoy sitting on the lanai trying to ID the different colorful birds that the ripe fruit attract. Better yet you could be there in mango or avocado season! This spacious studio is a refuge from the squawking commercialism of Alii Drive, the main tourist drag. But don't worry, wireless internet speed is superfast and there is lots of hot water. Staying in a hotel, you won't get beach chairs, mats & cooler at your disposal or a washing machine for when you run out of clean clothes. Take a look around and you will find plenty nearby to check out that you might otherwise have otherwise missed -Kona Coffee Living History, 1890 H.N. Greenwell Store & a chance to help make Portugese bread on Thursdays. Also nearby is The Coffee Shack - let me know which is better-the lilikoi cheesecake or the Kona lime pie. Banda is a friendly helpful host & if you clean up good like me, all your deposit is promptly returned.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We really enjoyed our stay at Middle Ke’ei and look forward to a repeat visit. The cozy studio was easy to find, given the great directions, and perfect for us. The unit was very clean, comfortable, in good repair, bright, and deliciously quiet. We loved sitting on the lanai at different times of the day just to relish the beautiful view of Kealakekua Bay by daylight or the stars at night. The location was convenient for our day trips to Hilo, Volcano National Park, and South Point. We were minutes away from Pu’uhonua o Honaunau (Place of Refuge), Paleaku Gardens, “Two Step”, and a memorable walking path called “The 1871 Trail”. Hint: do the trail in the morning or evening. We often saw whales while walking so stop often and watch the bay! Middle Ke’ei was our home away from home. The owner provided all the necessary linens, cookware, dishes, and utensils so you can just move in. A grill was available as well as a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, toaster, and blender. Beach chairs, mats, and Styrofoam cooler were also ready for a day at the beach. We found the offered books, especially those about the Big Island, especially helpful. Day planning was done on the lanai with a book or two from the shelf and a cup of Kona coffee. The owner was always prompt and helpful with tips, directions, and suggestions whenever we had questions. This is the place to stay if you want to have a true Hawaiian experience and, for a while, feel like you had a chance to ‘move’ to the Big Island. Aloha!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This property was just what we were looking for--quiet, secluded, comfortable and spotless, with a beautiful view of Kealakekua Bay. The owner was very helpful with recommendations and information on the Captain Cook area and the Kona Coast. It was close enough to the volcano to spend a whole day there with a scenic drive. It was an easy ten minute drive to the local beach. We would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

This clean, quiet, and well equipped studio is a great place for those who want both relaxation and adventure away from the bustle of Kailua-Kona. It is close to (even bike able for active types) the best snorkeling sites on the island. The lanai provides a charming view of the ocean which is a perfect spot for drinking coffee from one of the nearby farms- we even spotted humpbacks one lucky morning. Not only is the proprietor welcoming, but also provides great tips (and delicious avacados) for your stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I had a truly wonderful stay here! The owner could not have been more gracious, friendly and accommodating to all my needs and timing of my stay. The property was exactly as pictured. It was spotless and welcoming. I arrived to find a basket filled with avocados, lemons and papayas, all freshly picked from the property and proceeded to make most of my dinners from then on with huge avocados and a generous squeeze of the freshest sweetest lemons. The location couldn't have been better within easy driving distance of numerous beautiful sites (my favorite was the sacred City of Refuge where I went for numerous sunsets), beaches, and restaurants. It was quiet and peaceful. The view was gorgeous. I couldn't have been more satisfied and recommend this wonderful place highly.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This property is well maintained with many trees, colorful birds, even a wild turkey on occasion. The studio is large, bright, and airy. A great retreat for two who are not looking for, or need , the resort atmosphere, but a nice clean, quiet, get away. The owner gives quiet privacy, but helpful if you need assistance. We stayed 6 weeks and will stay longer on our next visit. Don't miss Cafe Keei , excellent for dinner, last I heard they had stopped serving lunch. We found the Middle Keei Studio to be a wonderful place to stay. It was clean and quiet, with a very pretty setting highlighted with views of the ocean, fruit trees and singing birds. Also, the location was excellent for exploring the west side of the Big Island and we'd definitely go back!Recommended for: Sightseeing

We spent a week here in March. We have stayed here many times and always find the studio delightful and quite comfortable. We love having coffee in the morning on the lanai, waiting for the sun to crest over Mauna Loa and light the coast below. And we've enjoyed many dinners there also. And love the California king bed also since my husband is tall. The avocados from the tree in the beautifully landscaped yard were especially plentiful and good this year--and provided great guacamole to accompany margarita-sipping and watching the sunset. We will return--it is one of our favorite places on the Big Island!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

The studio is very comfortable and quiet; the owner has thought of everything. In addition to housing vacationers, this would be a perfect place to get away and write or just take some quiet time. For those not from Hawaii, a chance to see how "locals" live. Bonus: an easy 15 minutes from the Painted Church. I'm so glad I chose to stay here.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We don't consider ourselves tourists even though we have travelled the world. Instead we like to see ourselves as being on Location, not Vacation. To achieve this feeling, we look carefully for a place that will give us a real experince then search for the right accomodations that will serve as a base while we spend time discovering and enjoying the life available only to locals. In Hawaii there are many places that have become artificial - luckily that has not happened in this special spot on Middle Keei road. Our first stay here was in 2006 and have spent at least month here every year since. We love the location because it is quiet, residential and at the center of life in Hawaii. With the best local beaches, snorkeling, dolphin/whale watching and sense of community anywhere on the Big Island a stay at Middle Keei just can't be beat. The studio is just the right size for a couple and is perched on the side of a slope overlooking the ocean where you can tell the condition of the seas as you roll out of bed. The sound of the birds in the morning is a delightful way to greet the day. Suffice it to say this is one of our favorite places anywhere.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our recent stay was at least the fourth time we've stayed at the Middle Ke'ei Studio-so, as you may guess, we love it there. It's the perfect place in paradise. We love the quiet, the bright and airy ambiance, the view from the lanai and the sunsets. The studio is always spotlessly clean and is well-stocked with pots and pans, cutlery, dishes and glasses--perfect for cooking meals so we don't have to go out all the time. We love have our morning coffee on the lanai, waiting for the sun to crest Mauna Loa and illuminate the coast. The location is close to a supermarket and is not only close to Kealekekua Bay, but to Ke'ei Beach and 'Two-Step' snorkeling on Honaunau Bay--and Kailua is only 20 minutes away! We plan to return next year for a week at least next year.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed in this studio for two weeks in November 2009. The property is very clean and comfortable and well represented by the photos. It has a great king size bed! It is well separated from the living quarters above, so you have privacy and quiet. The private lanai just outside the entry and sliding doors is heavenly. Perfect place for a papaya and coffee in the morning, or an evening cocktail and hors d'oeuvres, or just sitting reading in the afternoon. Several fruit trees on the property, avocados, papaya and bananas. The surrounding area has a macademia roaster in walking distance and coffee plantations all around. Country setting -- rural and quiet. There are a vareity of restaurants nearby, from local BBQ and island fare to more upscale, and Kona is less than 20 minutes away. The local supermarket has everything you need including good fish and an excellent wine selection, so no need to go into Kona for supplies. Snorkel gear and Kayaks at Kona Boys about 1 minutes north. Only a few minutes to kayaking and snorkeling and Captain Cook monument at Kealakakaua Bay, spectacular snorkeling at "Two Step", and Hookena Beach just ten minutes south is a gem, great beach and snorkleing, and off the beaten track. We'd go back in a heartbeat!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Have stayed here on several trips...and looking forward to more. I often enjoy traveling by myself and this is my #1 choice when planning. It is sweet, clean, serene & quiet! The owner makes it easy to settle in and is very helpful, but not at all instrusive. Beautiful location. close driving distance to all my favorite spots in this area to snorkle, swim, hike, or just sit on the lanai & read & write. A Kealakekua treasure.
