Do you know how Eagle parents teach their young how to fly? They take them way up into the sky and drop them! If they don't "get it", a parent catches the youngster on its back and does it all over again until he finally learns to Soar Like an Eagle! Why is this important for our Pine Tree Cabin? One of only two eagle nests on Plum Lake is located directly off the lakeside screened in porch of this homey cabin. Couple this with the deer and other wildlife that wander by the big bay window on a regular basis, and, well, who needs TV? (Although DirecTV is on site to keep you up on what's happening the in "real" world.) Light crackling candles or canned fire in the faux fireplace and enjoy the view! A sandy beach for swimming, fishing boats and canoes for your use and a paddleboat available for further lake exploration. Plum Lake is 7-1/2 miles long and we're located on the eastern most end providing the most incredible sunsets. And the Northern Lights shows we've witnessed can bring tears to your eyes. Marvelous! A fully equipped kitchen, charcoal grill and fire pit enables you to enjoy meals on property but there are also excellent restaurants and coffee houses nearby. There's a queen bed in one bedroom and twin trundles in the other. The futon in the living room is full sized. Covered parking is available under the Plum Lake Station railroad depot located on the old railroad grade on the south side of Pine Tree.

Nice Place to Stay in Northwoods
Nice Place to Stay in Northwoods

We stayed here for 4 nights over the Memorial Day weekend. This cabin was very clean & cozy, towels, linens, dishes, Weber grill, and firewood were included. There is a lot of space to hike or just spread out & relax by the fire pit, an old abandoned railroad path nearby makes an excellent hiking trail into the woods. The lake along with the wooded setting make this property pristine. The only problem we had was that the other bigger property nearby had a group of college kids staying in it, who shot off fireworks from time to time. In my opinion fireworks & the northwoods don't mesh. The northwoods are peaceful, natural, and bucolic; unnecessary noise disrupts the solitude. Also, the office mistakenly charged us an additional 4.5% tax on top of the 5.5% Wis sales tax on the total bill, they get the extra tax for lodging in nearby St Germain but not in the town of Plum Lake;. They gladly redid our bill when we pointed this out to them. If you want a nice northwoods getaway, this would be a good place.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
