Tranquil Lake Front Luxury Log Cabin

- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Beautiful lake front cabin nestled at the foot of the Blue Mountains (part of the Appalachian Trail) facing the pristine waters of “Moon Lake” welcomes artists, writers and nature enthusiasts. Originally a log cabin built in the “Arts and Crafts Movement” architecture, this newly remodeled cabin was a part of historic Beury’s Grove, a popular public summer resort built in the 1920’s. It is now a part of Historic Moon Lake Cottages, a quiet, privately owned community just one mile from Interstate 81 in Ashland, PA.
Inside you’ll find a great room with vaulted ceiling, solid knotty pine walls, original wood floors and a cozy Harmon wood stove. With a large master bedroom containing a honey pine nut bed, and spacious bath, you’re destined for a weekend get-away to remember. There is a gorgeous second floor open loft bedroom with a view of the Lake accessed by an authentic cedar loft ladder. A large enclosed porch offers a panoramic view of the lake where you can enjoy your meals prepared in the fully equipped gourmet kitchen with granite counters. Or enjoy your meals outside on the deck with a picnic table and grill. This house was recently completely remodeled in an environmentally-friendly manner.
Enjoy your morning coffee on original Adirondack chairs on the dock watching the mist rise off the Lake as the sun rises. Or take a break from your musings with a nice boat ride in the afternoon or fishing for bass and trout (Bring your own boat!). Cleared bridal trails start behind the house, where you can rock climb to beautiful natural waterfalls, or do some mountain biking or seasonal hunting for residents.
Enjoy many local attractions from tours of Yuengling Brewery, America's oldest brewery, Knoebbels Amusement Park, Pioneer Coal Mine and Tunnel, golfing or downhill skiing in the Pocono Mountain ski resorts, all within a one hour drive. The private community of Moon Lake offers wintertime activities of cross county skiing, and ice skating on the frozen lake. In the summertime enjoy the swimming, non motorized boating, and fishing the lake offers. Relaxing by the waterside and listening to the crickets and bull frogs is a favorite past time for many Moon Lake residents. The fall brings about a brilliant array of colors as the foliage changes. You can also enjoy the colorful sunset over the lake all year round.
Just 2.5 hours from Washington DC and New York, 2 hours from Philadelphia/Baltimore and 1 hour from Harrisburg.
Be creatively inspired in peaceful surroundings!
*Note: Because of dock/water area and ladder to Loft area, we only allow children over 7.

We rented this property for us and another couple to get away and recharge from our hectic schedules. We have been here before and just simply love it. We wanted to share the experience with friends so they have a great place to go to get away. We enjoyed curling up in front of the fireplace and watching a scary moving, preparing a fun dinner, catching up on some reading in the sunlight, enjoying the fall weather out on the deck by the lake, doing some fishing and feeding the ducks, and also going for a great hike in the woods enjoying the fall foliage. On our way home, we were all making plans for our next trip back already because it was just perfect. The description listed on this property is very accurate. The property is clean and offers everything you need during your stay. We have and will definitely recommend this to friends and family. I have never had a single problem with communicating with the owner. It's a super great place that's close to home that I just absolutely love to get away to, no matter what the season is.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers, people with disabilities.

We rented this property for a romantic getaway. I just can't say enough great things about this place. If I could, I'd pick it up and move it closer to home and sell my house!! The place itself is classy, warm, cozy, mature, and has everything you need. We loved the warmth of the fireplace, the free flowing layout, the fact that we could cook very comfortably in the kitchen; it offered space for everything we needed and just offers a very relaxing environment for that much needed recharge. The area is private and quiet, just what we were looking for, yet very convenient to major roadways. We loved the lake area and deck to watch the sun set and stargaze and the wooded area right across the road for hiking. we were fortunate enough to be there when a good snow came through and it was just a beautiful setting. We just didn't want to leave when it was time to go home.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers, people with disabilities.

I can't stop talking about the wonderful time my family had at your cabin. I'll start by saying that the only negative point was that the water is not great for swimming. But, that being said, my kids didn't even care. They took a few jumps into the water at the Gazebo area and that was good enough for them. Now let's talk about all of the good things that we enjoyed. The kids got the peddleBoat out and had a great time peddling around the lake each day. They also tried a little fishing. Not much to catch but they still enjoyed practicing' Also enjoyed the the hiking in the back hills. It was exausting for me but everyone enjoyed the hike. The inside of the Cabin is beautiful. We felt very at home and comfortable. I enjoyed relaxing to the music cd's each day as I made Breakfast for my family. As one of the earlier reviews stated, there was every tool needed to make all of our meals. We cooked our dinners on the back Deck on the Grill and ate at the table on the deck. Each afternoon and evening we played UNO and Monopoly. These are things that we never get the chance to do at home. It was very relaxing for my whole family to sit around the table and enjoy each others company each night. When planning our trip to the Cabin I claimed the Anorondack Chair on the right as my daily reading chair. Hoping it would all be as pictured, I enjoyed each day in my chair reading and enjoying the view. My wife enjoyed working on her crafts at the table on the deck. She also enjoyed feeding the ducks each morning to start her day. It was the most relaxing vacation our family has had in years. Not once did my kids say they were bored. As a matter of fact the kids had so much fun that they can't wait to go back. If you are looking for a great place to get away and relax------this is it.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This property is charming, spacious, clean, with a kitchen stocked with every implement and amenity you could wish for when preparing meals. There are gorgeous rugs, silk pillows and quirky touches everywhere. There is a DVD player and an assortment of movies and a system on which to play CDs or hook up one's iPod. There are multiple opportunities for relaxation on comfortable furniture. Our favorite was the covered jetty with Adirondack chairs where we spent the early mornings watching birds and wildlife. We stayed during one of the hottest weekends of the summer and, despite many fans, the three window units (one in master bedroom, one in dining room and one in the loft) struggled to maintain a comfortable temperature. Keep in mind that because of the well, water pressure is low. Although the property description alludes to swimming, we would not recommend that activity. The water is turgid, mucky, and reeds and other vegetation rim the the edges. (In all fairness, we were warned that the reservoir levels were low at the time of inquiry.) Recommendation: bring bottled water and ice.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with teenagers.
Owner response: There are three air conditioning units but during those days with record heat (above 105 degrees), the best place to be is in or on the water. Because this summer (2010) we had low levels of water due to dam issues (which are being resolved for next season) there is a lot of growth. However, the area around the gazebo is pure refreshing mountain spring water and good for swimming!

First off, I have to say that the owners are wonderfully kind and caring! They were always pleasant on the phone and easy to reach! :) Now, the cabin itself was simply stunning... The rooms are nicely sized and updated with very modern fixtures while still keeping a 'rustic' feel. The living room was so comfortable with the oversized couch and the huge coffee table and big flat screen TV. It was also lovely to sit in the cute, bright sunroom and gaze out at the water while reading a book or while sitting at the table for meals in the dining area. It was very clean and very well maintained from the kitchen to the bathroom to the polished hardwood floors. The dishes and kitchen utensils were very beautiful and new looking and all of the little supplies that you might need like scissors, bottle openers, glass coasters, etc were available, as well. Even the outdoor area was beautiful. The deck right off of the sunroom is a good size with a picnic table and pretty umbrella and the dock that extends out into the water is in great condition. We walked on it all week barefoot without a splinter to show for it! The chairs on the end of the dock are very comfy and sturdy, too. The lake was quiet, peaceful and we loved our vacation there. My husband, 9-yr-old daughter, and I have very, very busy lives and this getaway was the perfect vacation spot for our little family. We can't WAIT to go back! Absolutely felt like a home away from home! Very well recommended! :) Thanks so much!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

The cabin is absolutely adorable and was renovated with love. It is clean, with a great kitchen, and a nice grill. All of our interactions with the owners were stress free. However, I think it is misleading to call this a lakefront cabin because it is on a very small reservoir. Another negative is that the neighbors are very, very close. However, it is an affordable getaway and close to some great state parks.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: This lake technically is a reservoir because it was created as spring fed resort in the 1920's. Locals known it as The Beury's Lake. It's about 10+ acres large and one of the few privately owned lakes in Pennsylvania.

"Needing a much needed break away from smoggy city-life, I decided to spend a weekend at this location. I felt like I was in an entirely different world, surrounded completely by peace and nature. The lake, literally steps away from the back porch, is refreshing and expansive, seen through the large windows that span the entire lake-side wall of the cottage. The covered dock resting on the shore of the lake was a great place for relaxing and drinking iced tea. The back patio was great for a barbeque. A grill was there, ready to go, with a picnic bench so you could eat while staring at the lake. The cottage itself is gorgeous. There is a large and fully renovated kitchen perfect for cooking big feasts. There is an open loft that looks over the living room, complete with a plush queen bed and a window letting in sun and moonlight. The main room-- the living room has plenty of comfortable sofas and couches, a huge wide-screen plasma and a cozy fireplace. It was tempting for me to never leave the couch the whole weekend, warmed by the fireplace and entertained by the TV. The wood floors and walls give the place a woodsy feel, which is exactly what I was looking for in a weekend retreat. I didn't want to leave! I recommend this cabin for couples, friends, and families who are looking for clean air, lake-side views, and a spacious cottage for relaxing, playing games, and festivities. The pictures and description are accurate, and we found the cabin in very clean, perfect condition.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.

About the owner: A professional woman with children and grandchildren, I and some close friends undertook to remodel this historic house from the ground up in 2008. This project was a labor in love and you will see it in the individual details of the house. Not only does my family enjoy weekends here as a vacation home year round, but I would love to see it as a retreat for artist and writers to spark their creativity.
