Hot Springs farmhouse description
Secluded Riverfront Farm Cabin-Spectacular Views
Tired of the big city lights and traffic? Come enjoy the peace & quiet in the heart of the Smokey Mountains. The majestic, mature forest and utter serenity make this a perfect weekend get-away or week long vacation spot for those looking for true quality time. It’s perfect for those needing peaceful relaxation or the outdoor adventurer.
No matter what the occasion, the Seguin farm provides a great retreat for you and your family. Breathtaking views highlight this secluded mountainside getaway with one half mile of frontage on the French Broad River located 1.5 miles from the Appalachian Trail. The 120 year old recently renovated farm house is situated on a 39 acre working farm.
The house, although old, has been recently renovated and has all the comforts. It has air conditioning. It has a full, modern kitchen with washer/dryer, microwave, full sized stove and refrigerator with ice maker. We have an iPOD docking station and AM/FM radio as well as a phone and a TV with DVD player and VHS player. We have satelite TV provided by Direct TV and high speed internet access.
Take a step back in time and experience what life was like on a farm in the Appalachian Mountains. Relax on the rocking chairs on the porch that extends almost the entire length of the house and watch the trains go by. If you are a railroad buff then you will love this pastime. There is a working railroad track that passes through the property and several trains go by each day.
Take a walk through the hay field to the river and try a little bass fishing. Watch the farmer working the field. Launch an inner tube or raft and take a lazy float trip 4 miles to the take out at Murray Branch. Or you can just relax and read a book in a hammock along the banks of the river.
The town of Hot Springs was established in 1788. The town has had two very large hotels located on the French Broad river at the hot springs that have since burned down. This has become a destination spa for those nature enthusiasts that want to enjoy a natural setting while bathing in the mineral rich waters of a natural hot mineral spring. The Hot Springs Spa also offers a full menu of traditional spa services.
If hiking is what you are after, this is the place. The Appalachian Trail passes through town and you can take a day hike in either direction or you can head northeast and go all the way to Maine. There are many other opportunities in the area and the outfitter in town, Bluff Mountain Outfitters will be able to tell you some choices. One particular hike that we like is the hike along the Laurel River to the French Broad. It is an easy hike of about 8 miles round trip and you can walk for as little a distance as you want or you can do the entire hike.
If fishing is your favorite pastime then the choices are endless. You can fish for bass or muskie in the French Broad River. If trout is what you are after, you can try a little fly fishing in Spring Creek or the Laurel River where you will find wild and hatchery fish in abundance.
The choices for things to do are endless and whatever you have in mind for your vacation from shopping in Asheville to relaxing on a farm or hiking the Appalachian Trail you will find it here.

Perfect Family Fun
Perfect Family Fun
We had such a great weekend at this house. It was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed...cooking supplies, comfortable beds, lots of pillows, blankets and towels, fans. The front porch is a beautiful place to sit and watch the trains go by. Our daughters (ages 12 & 8) loved counting the cars and getting the drivers to blow the horn. We really did not hear them at night. The best part was the spot on the river. We played in the water, grilled and had an awesome campfire. We wandered in to the busy little town of Hot Springs where the Appalachian Trail runs right through. We felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, yet we were so close to music, restaurants and great little shops. The stars were amazing. We walked to the left to visit the cows and to the right to drop our tubes in and float down the river. Such fun! It was exactly what we needed. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spot with us and for making it so comfortable.

Peace and Quiet!
Peace and Quiet!
My family and I love the mountains, and on the advice of a dear friend, decided to vacation in Hot Springs this year. Outside of tremendously enjoying the quaint town of Hot Springs, our stay in this cozy farmhouse was fabulous. We had a minor issue with the phone, but the owner was immediately available and quick to ensure a timely fix for us. Our boys loved the freedom to run, climb and explore the river and mountainside. You have never experienced fireflies until you have spent a few hours on a moonless night gazing at the mountainside behind this farmhouse! This was a fantastic experience that our children haven't stopped talking about; in fact, they were planning our return trip before we left!

Staying at the farmhouse was truly like taking a step back in time. Everything was as described...only better. The home was very clean and well maintained with everything in working order. Bed was comfy! Tom was very helpful with all of my questions prior to my stay. We loved watching the trains (and they really do not keep you awake at all at night) and putting coins on the tracks. The area by the river was very serene and restful. I even got a line in the water while my husband hung out in his hammock that he brought. We spent a lot of time exploring the Hot Springs and Marshall areas, hiked up to Max Patch Bald, ate at every restaurant in Hot Springs and just enjoyed our 25th Anniversary getaway. We will be back to do some AT hiking (our hike got rained out) and fly fishing!

Manager response: Thanks Lori. It does my heart good to know that we can share our little slice of paradise with folks that enjoy it as much as we do.
We needed a place to be away from it all, and this was it! We were there for 3 days, saw about 4 cars and lots of magnificent trains! The trains did not blow their horns and glided by slowly so it was a pleasure to see them. We wandered around the property and saw lots of interesting things, like Trillium, Solomon's Seal, Indigo Buntings, Bluebirds, and lots of interesting rocks! The river was magnificent, but we had a lot of rain and were forced to stay inside and read! Too bad! Thanks, Tom, for sharing your home with us. We hope to go back soon! Vivienne

Thank you for such a wonderful stay in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. We had planned to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway and spend time at many of the park areas nearby but the farm was relaxing and the location was so beautiful that driving elsewhere was unnecessary. Even the drive down the hill to the cabin was full of beautiful fall colors. The only drawback was that the weather was too cool for swimming in the French Broad river that runs along the property. We did enjoy sitting beside the river and our very own camp fire though. Thank you for sharing your cabin with us.

We came to stay for just two nights . . . not long enough! What a wonderful farm house! It's very cozy, CLEAN, and comfortable! The train was great and never kept us awake . . . it was fun to put coins on the track, then to gather them after the train had passed. We enjoyed going to the Hot Springs Resort to soak in the sparkling clean mineral springs hot tubs! The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you need. Very nice, thank you for the chance to stay!

Our Vacation Wishlist Fulfilled. 1) Privacy-No vacay cabins packed like sardines for us. 2) River-Not just a view, we want to put our kayaks in & paddle. 3)Reasonable Price. 4)Fully Equipped-We need to be able to cook our meals & wash clothes 5)Character-We LOVE personality. 6)Room to Run-I need a safe place to jog & space for the kids to ride their bikes & chase fireflies. This spot DELIVERED! Perfect location minutes from Ashville and Hot Springs. From the moment we pulled up to this vintage farm house we knew we were right where we wanted to be. The extra-wide porch whispers as you walk-I've been here for decades & welcomed many people home. Indeed, we did feel home. Stepping inside was like walking into a Country Living Magazine-Floor to Ceiling Beadboard & all of it painted creamy white like walls slathered in a buttery whipped cream. We worried about space for our family of 4. There's PLENTY! The master offers a super comfy bed, TV &large closet-oversized Closets are EVERYWHERE. There is a roomy kitchen with ALL the trimmings-even a bundt pan if you wish to bake! Great water pressure in the bathroom & a washer/dryer too. (All appliances new.) Usually small rentals have no real dining area &people prop chinet paper plates on their knees while they sit at stools. Not so here. The dining room has tons of seating; when our friends visited one evening there was space for all 7 of us to gather round the table in comfortable chairs & play a few rounds of cards. The living room comfortably holds a sofa, automan & leather chair, & a day bed w/ trundle. (All pillows/linens were high quality &lots of extras in closets.) 4 people could easily sleep in that room. The river frontage is breathtaking & a perfect put in for kayaks/tubes, etc. The current is gentle making swimming/fishing wonderful. Hours were spent sifting through tiny rocks to find small gemstones & lots of fools gold. A BBQ, Pavilion & Fire Pit w/wood made lovely outdoor evenings with S'mores & burgers. The mountains were like giant Christmas trees lighted by fireflies at night. The trains had me curious--would they be loud? No. We loved listening to the lazy trains lumber by-a gentle rhythm reminding us of hobos & bygone days. Acres of walking, fields, river frontage, woods, open space & peace abound making the outside a haven. Inside the modern ammenities tastefully inserted into the historical home refresh and restore. Don't miss this farm home; you will love it.

Manager response: Thanks Jeff and Sarah... We tried to decorate our mountain farm house with the intention of having it be decorated and equipped the way we like it and it makes us so happy when our guests enjoy it as much as you did. Hope you will be back.
This cozy little cabin was just what we needed during our travels. Located in the mountains with a beautiful field, river-view, grille and bonfire pit this is a memory I will always have as I proposed marriage and was engaged at nearby Soco Falls. With many waterfalls and hiking trails nearby not to mention gorgeous motorcycling roads we hope to return and spend some more time exploring and recreating in the great outdoors. This is everything you need for base camp for your Appalachain Adventure!

This was the perfect place for my son (who is hiking the AT) to spend a few 0 days with his 2 year old daughter, wife, and tag along mom. Words cannot express how much my granddaughter loved when the trains passed by, walking down to the river, playing in the open field, and just hanging on the porch. I felt like we were able to go back in time ( with the modern conviences ) and enjoy what life should be all about. Definately a place to rent.

Manager response: Thanks Nancy... We have a two year old Grandson and can't wait until I can enjoy the place with the third generation of Seguins to be there. You are always welcome back.
What a wonderful place to relax and take your mind off the “day to day” routines. Although the “Farmhouse” has all the modern conveniences, its character reminds me of trips to my grandparent’s house so many years ago. I’m not sure which was more enjoyable, sitting in the rocking chairs on the porch or picnicking down by the river; all I know is that I can’t wait until we can go back.

Year Purchased: 1986
About: My wife Donna and myself (Tom) are both Graduate Gemologists from the Gemological Institute of America. We own Suncoast Gem Lab in Bradenton, Florida where we do all things jewelry related. We have a fully accredited Gemological Laboratory where we perform appraisals of gems and jewelry for all purposes. We also sell new and estate jewelry as well as doing all types of jewelry repair and custom jewelry design. We love the outdoors and we are avid hikers and rock climbers. Our two sons, Anthony and Mitchell have grown up spending a part of their summers here and have a love of the outdoors as well. We hope that you will come and experience the beauty and tranquility that our little natural haven can offer.
Why Hot Springs:
I have owned this farm for 23 years. We live in Florida and we originally bought the place so that our two sons would be able to learn to love the mountains and the outdoors as we do. Our plan worked. Our oldest son, Tony is a Fire Fighter and an avid fisherman, mountain biker, hiker and outdoor enthusiast. Our younger son, Mitchell is studying agriculture at the University of Florida and he is also an avid fisherman, white water kayaker, sky diver and rock climber. We still come up and stay several times a year and the boys come up occasionally too so we have tried to make it comfortable and homey and we hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
The thing that I was drawn to on the farm is the natural beauty of the mountains and the river. It is the most peaceful place that I have ever been to. Our clearing along the river is like having your own park with no one else allowed in. Imagine a beautiful, cool fall day with the Pisgah National Forest in full color on the opposite side of the river while you relax in front of a camp fire and do a little fishing in the river. Another thing that we have enjoyed immensely is the Hot Springs Spa. People have been coming here, literally, for centuries to bathe in the mineral rich waters of the springs. Another huge draw is the hiking on the Applachian Trail as well as the many other trails in the area. Since the hot springs has opened up again in 1999 the town has been able to support more restaurants and shops so there are a number of good choices. The white water rafting and kayaking choices are many and the area is less than an hours drive from Asheville. It truly is a place where you can experience the beauty of the Smokey Mountains with all of the comforts of home.
