Stayed at Wild Iris for four nights while skiing at CBMR and CS Irwin. The house is terrific - clean, nicely furnished, comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, and extremely convenient. The description and photos are accurate and the owner and property manager are very helpful. It is just a short walk to the stores and restaurants on Elk Ave, the shuttle up to the mountain, and the CS Irwin meeting point. Couldn't have been better! Absolutely would recommend this property to others.

We stayed three weeks in the Wild Iris this summer and it is just as described -- well appointed, comfy, perfect for 4 people, although we easily held 6 a few nights. The bathrooms were updated, the sheets and down comforters were wonderful, and the location can't be beat! Our schnauzer, Wally, may have had the best time of all and was so sorry to see us go back to the Dallas heat! I would highly recommend the Wild iris --- Charlie and Shay were so kind to work with.

Our family of 6 recently enjoyed our fourth stay at the Wild Iris. We love the Wild Iris. The accommodations are comfortable and cozy. The location is fantastic with Camp 4 coffee, the Catholic church and Elk Street all within a block. Charlie is easy to work with and Shay keeps the place in tip top condition. Love the townie bikes! Everywhere you look is like postcard. Love the Stash and the Notorious F.I.G. and Buffington.

My wife and I recently stayed for five days in the Wild Iris Guest House with our three teenage sons. We had a terrific time rafting, horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking in and around crested butte. Our stay at Wild Iris was comfortable and enjoyable. The cabin was everything that it was advertised to be and more. We especially enjoyed the downtown location, just one half block off of the main street with shopping, restaurants, etc. I would definitely recommend Wild Iris to anyone visiting the Crested Butte area.

We treasured every moment in the Wild Iris Guest House. It is clearly a well-loved home, with every detail attended to. The location could not be better and the house is exceptionally well provisioned, from the loaner bikes to the fabulous kitchen and very comfortable bedrooms. I highly, highly recommend this beautiful home!

We had a wonderful stay at this property. The house was warm and comfortable and we felt very lucky to be there when 2 feet of snow fell and the town was a winter wonderland. The owners and property managers could not have been nicer or more helpful. My emails were returned incredibly quickly when i had a question or asked for a late check-out. We are a family of 3 with a small dog and the house was a perfect size for us. The bus system in Crested Butte is excellent, so a car was unnecessary. We walked everywhere. The house was well appointed: great cooking pots, some cool African art, internet, nice towels. We would definitely recommend this property on all counts. We would return to the same house without shopping around for other options. It was a good value and a fabulous location. Thank you for a great 5 days in Crested Butte.

Our stay was great ... It's warm cozy home in a great location. We could walk everywhere...the iconic, Camp 4 cofffee is right around the corner... It doesn't get more Crested Butte than that! We visited with our three kids and family pooch and everyone can't wait to return! If you need a family friendly place in a great location, this is it. We've rented many places in CB and will definitely return to this home. Great family room with fire... Great to watch a movie, read a book or play some cards.

What an awesome place our ski vacation this year! Crested Butte was beautiful, quaint, and a fabulous mountain! And the Wild Iris was the perfect place to stay. The home was well appointed, comfortable beds, nice bathrooms, easy internet, and was in the perfect location. We could walk to the grocery, movie theaters, and all the great restaurants and shops downtown. AND it was only 1 1/2 blocks from the shuttle stop to catch the bus up to the mountain. I actually preferred staying in old town Crested Butte. If we had been on the mountain, we would have had to take the shuttle just to buy groceries! Thank you to the Slaters and their home, Wild Iris, for making our ski vacation a memorable experience!

We stayed at Wild Iris for almost a week during the early fall. We were pleasantly surprised with the location and walking distance to main street with coffee shops, restaurants and walking trails close by. We loved the backyard and cruiser bikes the owners provided, very handy. The owners were very kind to even extend our stay by one night for free since it was available - we took advantage! Thanks again for everything and plan to be back this year.

We rented this home in 2008 & 2009. We tried to rent it in 2010 but it was already booked. I highly recommend this home to anyone visiting Crested Butte. It is in the best location in Crested Butte, if you want to be in downtown. The owners are proud of their home and keep it in excellent condition.

The cabin was basically as advertised, although the loft master gets hot in the summer. There is a fan but no cross breeze. There are also many area rugs which are badly in need of cleaning and the underlying mats need to be replaced because they slip so dangerously on the wood floors so much we had to roll them up for our stay. Kitchen appliances are quite dated, too, and the kitchen is small. However, I give this a poor rating principally on account of very rude owners. Our children and dog caused some minor damage (silly putty on the sheets, which stained them, and the dog chewed up a stuffed bear, all less than $200 to replace). However, the owner insisted on also charging us for a hanging basket that died. They had set the watering schedule to go off twice daily at 6 am and 6 pm for a half hour, which rendered the back porch muddy and useless during key parts of the day. I changed the schedule to go off once at night, and got blamed and charged for a the hanging basket that died, which they said cost $75. I paid all the requested damage charges voluntarily ($240 total) within 6 days of receiving an email itemizing the damages. Nevertheless, the owners thought it necessary to send a rude email, also only 6 days after sending the itemized bill, which read as follows: "I take it by your lack of response that you do not intend to meet your responsibilities. That is unfortunate. It might relieve you to know that we have rented to about 100 families, and that you are the very first person to damage our home and not pay for damages. So many good people out there!!! And then there is you...what is that floating in the punch bowl?" Obviously, I cannot recommend renting this property. Charlie and Lizzie Slater
Owner response:In our 7 years of renting of Wild Iris, we have met some truly nice people. We are often asked why we do not require a damage deposit; after having rented to probably 120+ families, it's been extremely rare that anyone damages anything...in actual experience, we've had only 2 families cause damage!! So we don't really worry about the occasional broken glass or such small things. The above family did quite a bit of damage, and then refused to pay for it. In that Crested Butte is a small, tight community, they only finally did pay once we suggested they wouldn't be welcome back not only at Wild Iris but at any other houses in Crested Butte. While this single experience was very disappointing, one such event in 100+ great families won't change our opinion of the world.

Our family spent a wonderful week at Wild Iris in March 2010! Our party included 4 adults and 2 boys, ages 4 & 6. We found our accomodations perfect in every way. The house was cozy, tastefully decorated, well maintained and equipped, and felt like a home away from home. Located only 3 short blocks from the ski shuttle, we had easy access to the mountain, yet loved being a block away from Crested Butte's historic main street. The spacious mud room was perfect for storing ski gear without cluttering up the living space. We loved having access to a washer/dryer. The living space was great for relaxing and socializing while cooking/cleaning up. We would love to visit again someday.

It was really nice to stay in a cabin full of character, and very was warm and cozy. It had everything we needed and is a great location. The four of us had a wonderful time in Crested Butte and really enjoyed staying in Wild Iris. I would highly recommend staying in Wild Iris, having stayed in many places in Crested Butte it is one of the very best if you want your own house. One of the bedroom was small, but it's an old cabin...they built houses small in those days! Lizzie and Charles were easy to deal with.
