La Grange lodge description
Having visited Maine and the Adirondack region of New York, there were a number of characteristics we incorporated into The Lodge.
The beauty of the small lake just outside the back door, deer wandering through the yard, and pine trees whispering in Texas breezes create a rejuvenating sanctuary.
The Lodge has a 60-foot room that is arranged in a manner to accommodate small weddings, receptions, family get-togethers, conferences, or just a private retreat. This room has walls with something close to German fachwork, bountiful wooden windows looking out on the lake, a massive fireplace, great wagon wheel light fixtures with antlers, a wall that displays various shutters retrieved from a Columbus historic building, and a lovely, revived pine floor.
Lots of cedar from the area has been used for shutters and wrapping of columns. One bathroom is camouflaged to provide a hunter’s comfort. Another bathroom is finished in burnt orange as honor to a son that played for the University of Texas.
Narrow shutters from the Texas capital in Austin are now used as a closet door. Old swinging doors have been made into shower doors in a couple of bathrooms. The list is long, but one of the smartest ideas was the addition of a giant screened-in porch reaching out to the lake. Texas breezes are treasured and one can step from the Lake Room or the kitchen and capture the outdoors immediately.
The Lodge captures characteristics that are reminiscent of Maine and the Adirondack region of New York. The site's many pine trees give a sense that one is in the wilderness, but in fact, The Lodge is not far away.
By using twigs, rocks, old barn wood, antlers, and various historic architectural pieces The Lodge is somewhat a work of art. Massive fireplaces, chairs with Texas hide seats, a collection of Pendleton blankets, old fishing equipment, and a grand array of antiques surround the guests.
The Kitchen features full utilities with modern amenities and a view of the great outdoors.
All in all, we've created an incredibly comfortable and eclectic lodge atmosphere that's perfect for a wide variety of uses. We hope to share our little slice of heaven with you soon.
Giant Texas cedar bed joins an historic window from Williams College, Mass. to present the eclectic style that characterizes The Lodge.
The Lodge features suites that sleep four and six people making family reunions and retreats a perfect match
The Lake Room features a table for fourteen, massive fireplace, fantastic views of the wildlife feeding area and Lake Siesta. You can step from the Lake Room or the kitchen and become one with the outdoors.

Excellent Place for Retreat!
Excellent Place for Retreat!
Our writing group recently held a retreat here--this place is full of charm, antlers, and special memories! There were plenty of desks and chairs to spread out and work as well as chat. Such a beautiful setting definitely helped to inspire the creative process. The rooms are spacious and comfortably accommodated all 13 guests. The back porch is delightful with spectacular views of the lake and wildlife! The lodge owner, Bob, is so kind and helpful. Can't wait for the next retreat!

Our family of 12 tayed here Thanksgiving weekend. It was amazing. Everyone had thier own space and bathroom. The kitchen is very well equiped. The owners have thought of everything. The kids and dogs all loved it-as did the adults. It is conveniently located between Austin and Houston, so none of us had to travel hours to get there. The only small negative thing is that it appears to be in the woods-which it is-sort of. It faces a fm road that has alot of daytime traffic. That being said-just stay in the back and you won't notice! We all loved the Lodge and would recommend it very highly.

About the owner: We have been innkeepers at Magnolia Oaks Bed & Breakfast in Columbus, Texas since 1990. The main house is an 1890 Eastlake Victorian and features walk-through windows, fourteen foot ceilings and intricately carved doors. In 1998 we added The Little Red House next door to the 1890 Victorian. The Little Red House is an 1865 German saltbox that has an historic original painted ceiling in the gathering room. Our garden arbor area includes a fountain, swing, and an herb garden for our kitchen. These facilities are near downtown Columbus where we live.
Why the Owner Chose La Grange:
We enjoy sharing our gift of hospitality. Bob often plays guitar and sings a morning toast at breakfast at the B&B - not the Lodge. Nancy, having been an educator and antiques dealer loves to share stories of the area. The Lodge on Lake Siesta was discovered and dedicated to becoming a hideaway for us. We love the feeling that one absorbs while driving along 153 and getting encompassed in a unique setting of towering pines. It immediately provokes thoughts of the Adirondack Region of upper New York state, Maine, and New Hampshire. The Lodge is one of only two structures on Lake Siesta and is a haven for birds, deer, and other wildlife. There are quiet places to sit in the woods and simply reorganize thoughts or find peaceful quiet.
The Unique Benefits at this Lodge:
The famous MS150 bike route passes in front of the Lodge, and thus offers an opportune 'practice' run for bike riders. In most cases, The Lodge will be an unhosted facility that offers full kitchen and sitting rooms (screened porch and 60 ft. Lake Room) plus the sleeping facilities. Families will rejoice in the opportunity it provides for reunions. Call for an appointment to tour the facility and visit with us.
