  This cottage was a fantastic place for me to stay for two weeks while I visited with my son,daughter-in-law and two grandsons. It truly is nestled in the redwoods in a historic area of Walnut Creek called Saranap where I could jog the hills, walk or drive to quaint downtown Walnut Creek and Lafayette or just enjoy the quiet after a fun filled day spent with my grandsons. It was one of the first times I ever rented a private residence where I didn't feel that I had to clean it before I could settle in. The cottage was spotless, beautifully decorated and fully equipped with anything I might need during my stay even including enough coffee and creamer for my first two morinings.The outside area is beautifully landscaped around gorgeous redwood trees with a a large gas bbq and even play equipment and playhouse for my grandsons to use.I had my own private well lit parking space adjacent to the front door. The owner was very helpful and would have done anything to make my stay more comfortable. I highly recommend this propety and can't wait to stay there again!

  Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing.

  I enjoyed my stay at this property while my own home was being rennovated. The “Cottage in the Redwoods” is beautifully furnished, clean and very comfortable. The owner is friendly and helpful and also respects the privacy of his guests. The property is well maintained and in a convenient location, close to downtown Walnut Creek, public transportation and easy freeway access to hwy 24 and I-680. I would highly recommend this property to others looking for a "home away from home" when in the Bay Area.

  Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing.

  Reserved the Cottage for June & July 2012 & made the requested deposit. I made a number of commitments in the Walnut Creek Area, so once I got there, even though the Cottage was filthy, I had no options, so I stayed and cleaned it up. This is what I did: 1. Cleaned/killed the mold on the floor outside the shower with bleach, 2. Removed the throw carpets (they were filthy) and steamed cleaned all the floors, 3. Cleaned a 1/16 inch layer of dust/dirt that had accumulated on top and the front of the two ceiling fan blades-8 blades in total, 4. Vacuumed the large throw rug in front of the couch, and 5. Purchased Ortho Home Defense and sprayed inside & outside to kill the numerous spiders and other crawling critters. The room AC is in the kitchen, it is under sized so it COULD NOT COOL THE BEDROOM! There was NO Mountain View or Deck Patio & the Sofa was BOTTOMED OUT. The Cottage is about 15 yards from the landlord’s house and his yard maintenance equipment is stored by the Cottage & the landscape is very unkempt The landlord demanded payment in cash and payment for both Months up front. I found out later that this is contrary to California landlord/tenant regulations I left early on 7/15/2012 and as of 8/10/2012 the owner still has not returned my security deposit as promised. I have emailed him but no response and he refuses to take my phone calls. Do not get trapped like I did and avoid staying at this Place

  Owner response: Why try to re-book a property you just stayed at? .... This man tried to rebook for 2013 prior to writing his review ... I refused to rebook on August 15th ... Due to damages this man created ... He fabricated this tirade as he damaged travertine while working on bikes in the cottage ... I have maid service that is great ... If anyone ever complains the maids come within a day or I fix it immediately. I have maid service once a month and with every new tenant. The futon sleeper is brand new leather and very firm. I have pest service that does an excellent job and are guaranteed. The air con is great and works well in conjunction with high quality reversible ceiling fans in each room. I have weekly yard service and how could one grow grass under redwood trees if there wasn't? I informed VRBO that this was a vindictive review due to my refusal to rebook due to damages and proved it with pictures and emails. They responded with it looks like you have a good civil case and let the review stand. I do my best to provide a great place to stay as if I was the one staying there. I am always open to taking pictures today and emailing them to you personally from my phone for a snapshot of the property ... The cottage is privately situated with its own driveway 80' ft. from the main house ....

  I really enjoyed my week at the cottage. The owner was helpful & accessible, if needed, & happy to make recommendations about the area/neighborhood when asked (I had wanted to rent bicycles for an afternoon on the Iron Trail & he knew exactly where I could go). Newly remodeled, the apartment was stylish, comfortable, contemporary and centrally located [for me] in the Bay Area. The pictures are accurate & the "redwoods", although located in a city, make it park-like and tower above a garden area, adding to the mellow ambience, giving it privacy. I look forward to my next stay.
