The Mermaids Historical Tale was built in 1907 and refurbished in 2010. She is 2200 sq ft designed for entertaining and comfort. The Mermaid has a giant chefs kitchen with 2 inch mahogany countertop, hardwood floors and a underwater backsplash mural. Lots of windows with the high ceilings set a show place for guest. A kingbed is in the Captains Quarters located downstairs with a full bath. Upstairs are 3 more bedrooms upstairs with sleeping for additional 8 people. This house is perfect for families with children over 12 or mature adults that like to have a good time.
Sit outside and hear the beach or cruise ships horns. Have a drink on any of the 3 porches then wake up grab your coffee and walk on the beach. The beach is 4 blocks away and has shopping or chair and umbrella rentals or fast food. This spot on the beach is great for watching the morning surfers. Many of the restaurants on the island are dog friendly. Nightlife is walkable to the Mermaid. Also if you get the chance attend church on the island.. some of the oldest churches in Texas are located in Galveston and the services are simply unforgetable.
Please note The Mermaid is one of the few houses listed with a screened in porch for those common southern summer nights that need mesquito protection.
The Mermaid has a picket fence and a place to pull a car in for off street parking. If this is a little too large ask me about Happiness she sleeps 6. It's my new little gem with a fabulous porch off the back to drink coffee and discus the day. We had a great spring break at The Mermaid. Completely furnished, lots of room and just fun! Wish we could have stayed longer. Great communication and transactions with owner. Hope to stay there again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

We needed a last-minute place to stay for four couples and this was an excellent find. The house was a charming historic home with modern amenities. Plenty of room for the eight adults in our party. The owner was wonderful to work with and exchanged text messages with my wife throughout the weekend to guide our eating, siteseeing and other needs. We will certainly stay here again on our next group trip!Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

The house is large, well stocked and so comfortable...very homey feeling. Walking/biking distance to the beach, nice neighborhood and quiet. Loved the well equiped kitchen and the large open dining/living room. Fun decor, comfy beds and an overall great house for family get togethers... We'll be back!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

My family and I stayed at the Mermaid from July 9-15th. The house was way more than we expected..Very spacious, it accomadated 16 people at times during this stay. We had a few minor issues but, nothing that will stop us from visiting again next summer...The kids loved the toys on the screen in porch during the day and, the adults enjoyed having a night cap in the evening. We will definitely be contacting Mrs. Ramona again!!! My daughter got married in Galveston and I had family coming from all over, including 15 people from Sweden. To accommodate everyone we rented 4 houses in the East End Historic district. Of the 4 houses the Mermaid was the most comfortable. My husband loved the house with the high ceilings and wonderful screened in porch. The furniture was nice and comfortable without being too stuffy. We did not have to worry about tip-toeing around expensive antiques. The house is about an even distance between the beach and the Strand, so the location was perfect. Our hostess Ramona was so gracious and accomodating that our stay could not have been better. Thank you once again for making our stay in Galveston perfect!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, pet owners, girls getaway.

We choose this house based on all the reviews and size of house. Owner worked very well with us. The house really wasn't that clean. Cobb webs everywhere, dust on lamps. First night spotted a mouse, and had to go late at night to buy traps to put out. Sheets were not clean. Reported this to owner, offered our money back to go to hotel. When you bring prepared food for several meals for 10 people you cannot go to hotel. My problem was that she said she was shocked about our news. She said sheets were bleached and never saw a rodent. I never found bleach, and sent several pics of mouse droppings. She wasnt exactly truthful.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners.
Owner response: Yes we had a mouse in the house and yes I am sure it freaked out the small children. Once she saw the mouse she thought the whole house had problems I immediately offered a full refund even for the nights they stayed...she called back laughing and said no they were having such a good time and she had over reacted because once she saw the mouse she thought they were everywhere but realized it was only one. Yes all sheets are bleached out and sanatized which is kept in the locked owners closet under the stairs. I was completely honest but I do know that you cannot make everyone happy...I might also add I went down there after she left and never saw or trapped another mouse. I am sorry this happened while she was there but I have no control over gods little creatures.

This is the second year we have stayed here. With 6 adults and 4 children it is offten difficult to find a good place for all of them, The Mermaid provides enough bedrooms and other areas for geting together and also some privacy when desired. It is within a few blocks of the beach so you can be there in a couple of minutes. What a wonderful place. Highly recommended!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

This was exactly what I expected from reviewing it on VRBO. The owner was very helpful and friendly whenever I contacted her. The house was very clean and the plantings in yard very pretty. The washer and dryer were used! We flew into Houston, so had packed quite light. Having the staple items in the kitchen a great help, as we didn't need to start from scratch to do some cooking. Soooo many great places to eat. The bedrooms served our small group perfectly. I would definitely recommend this to someone who has family or friends with them, needing a larger house that is very friendly!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

AWESOME....What a great place....Close to everything. The house is big and has everything we needed. The yard was great for our dog and my son. We were close to the beach as well as the docks for fishing!!! A great stay in the heart of old Galveston. Thanks to the Boekers for opening up there great vacation home WE WILL BE BACK!!!! About the owner: We're Mark and Ramona Boeker, Ramona works as a investor/ realtor and house flipper on the side....Everyone that came to see this house thought we would be out of our mind to sell it. It is truly one of the most comfortable homes I've ever been in. You just love it when you walk in and get the 'Honey I'm Home' feeling. We decided the only way to do this was to rent it out. I really put my heart into this one and I think you will enjoy our old coastal home with a really beachy attitude.
Why the Owner Chose East End Historic District:
Our purchase of the Mermaid was more of a rescue to help the island out after Hurricane Ike. A crazy thing happened we fell in love with the island, the people, the attitude and all the crazy fun places to enjoy here. We are located in a very safe and friendly environment.

Location! Location! Location! Walk to Marti Gras, The Strand, The Wharf, The Opry House, the beach, Dolphin watching, segway tours or dinner. Lounge in your PJS while your kids walk to get donuts for breakfast. Most all weekends something is happening downtown just a walk away. Don't forget the restaurants too many to name. If you bring a bike your possiblies are endless. The best part is G town has the attitude of Austin, Texas 20 years ago.
