Our week at the High Tides Cttage in Darien, GA certainly exceeded our expectations. The cottage was very clean, well maintained, and fully equiped. The staff at Private Islands of Georgia were a pleasure to deal with - very friendly, knowledgable, and quick to respond to questions or concerns. The Darien area is a wonderful, small Georgia coastal village that still has an active shrimp fishing industry, lots of history, unique shops and very friendly, warm residents. Great for bird watching (shore birds, Bald Eagles, etc) kayaking, biking, and just relaxing. If you're looking for late-night dancing, clubs, etc - it's not the place for you. If you want to unwind, enjoy the views over the sea grass, meet the local residents and just relax, we highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful 3+ weeks during Azalea season---gorgeous ! The cottage has a great floorplan and lovely decor. Darien and surrounding areas have fascinating history, and the shrimp boats moored a block from the cottage are a gorgeous sight. --- gained some weight at Mud Cat Charle's, Skippers Fish Camp, Darien River House, and Purple Pickle. Trips to Jekyll Island, Savannah, Hofwyl Plantation, Sapelo Island, and even Brunswick with it's beautiful residential architecture (plus much better shopping than Piggly Wiggly !) kept us busy and happy. My husband, myself and our little dog, Will enjoyed our walks around the neighborhoods of Darien and the very friendly people we met.

My son & his fiance were getting married on Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island & we found the High Tide Cottage was available at the last minute. The cottage & it's little bungalo were just perfect for our exciting weekend. It is such a very quiet area, but not too far away from many things to do. We will return again soon!

We choose this location based upon the convenient travel distance from home and housing up to 10; our desire to have a weekend away as a group, our limited time to plan and execute, the opportunity to take our family lab with us. We had no knowledge regarding Darien, adventures and new places don't scare us. The house was very clean, well furnished, contained everything we could possibly need for our stay. The surprises were, no outdoor kitchen, I was looking forward to that element advertised. 8 bikes versus the 4 reported, was a plus due to our group of 10. The king size bed and fold out couch are in the basement - which leaked in the rain. The outside bungalow was perfect for housing the only males who traveled with us. A good mixture of positive and negative surprises. The younger people in our group traveled to nearby areas for entertainment - Brunswick for shopping and bowling alley; St Simon's Island for the beach. Others in our group found investigating Darien: An Olive Affair. the Wine Shop, the Shops on Broad Street even the Darien News revealed a quaint, friendly - small town atmosphere, nice place to visit. There is really no enteretainment, swimming; even fishing turned out to be difficult. Brunswick was the closest grocery shopping, only approx 20 minute drive. It was perfect for quiet, down time away from the city. Anyone considering this location should plan to include the first Saturday of any month, there are community activities planned at this time. We would consider renting this location again at that time - and with less people in our group. Andy Hill and his office were excellent in all communications with us.

Our stay at High Tide Cottage was AWESOME! The cottage met our every expectation and was most comfortable. Andy supplies all the aminities you could possibility need and more. He even brought us shrimp one night that we feasted on. It is an excellent location for visiting the surrounding area including St. Simons, Jekyll, & Cumberland Islands, and just a short hop to Savannah and Tybee Island. The seafood restaurants Andy suggested, were great! We definitely plan to return in the future. Thanks, Andy, for one of the best and most relaxing vacations we have been on in a long time! My family stayed for a month at the High Tide Cottage in April/May. It was so wonderful! Captain Andy was a constant resource in where to go, what to do and how to best enjoy our time in lovely Darien. He found out we were looking for property on the coast and took a full day out of his busy schedule to show us many properties - even by boat! He is a walking history lesson of that area. His many gifts were an "embarrassment of riches" we could never repay - and he wouldn't hear of it! The cottage is lovely - we stay at VRBO rentals many times a year and this was hands-down the best equipped. Love the style - low country meets Pottery Barn. We loved walking the block or so to enjoy Skippers for fresh seafood and the beautiful river views of shrimp boats coming in. The little downtown has some great shops - my son LOVED the Purple Pickle which was literally across the street. The cottage is very deceptive in the pictures and even when you drive up to the front. The house has tons more space than you think it has - a full basement which my son claimed as his own space - and an adorable mini-cottage in the back yard with twin beds. (My son claimed THAT for his own as well!) We had family come visit while we were there to see all the barrier islands, Savannah and Amelia Island.I was amazed at all the room! Andy even brought us a kayak to enjoy while there! We miss you already Captain Andy!

We had a fantastic holiday celebration! Hide Tide Cottage was charming, relaxing and very comfortable. Time has a way of stopping in Darien. Within a block from the house, there is a wine and cheese shop, several local eateries, and the freshest "catch of the day" from local fisherman....AMAZING oysters, crab and shrimp! There is so much to explore in and around the surrounding area. This is a fisherman's paradise! We loved staying at the cottage. We are really looking forward to returning in December 2011! Many thanks, Rick, Darva, Denise and Mark

We enjoyed our stay in Darien at this very charming cottage. It is a great location from which to go to Jekyl Island or St. Simons Island as well as heading north to Savanah. The cottage was clean and well maintained and the owner was very hospitable. He answered all our questions and made several recomendations for points of interest. Darien has a very small town feel and was a nice change from staying in Charleston or Savanah.

We were looking at the last minute for a place for a weekend getaway, and were quite happy to have found the High Tide Cottage. Andy was a great host who made us feel very comfortable, and was just a phone call away. He provided excellent recommendations for weekend activities and pointed us to two wonderful restaurants. The cottage itself is in immaculate condition and was perfect for our getaway. It was very clean and everything was in excellent working order. The furniture was comfortable and the patio was fantastic. I really enjoyed sitting underneath the beautiful old oaks with an adult beverage and a cigar. The only "problem" - if you could call it that - was one with internet service. One call to Andy and the issue was resolved within 30 minutes. We couldn't ask for more. When we come back to the area, I'm sure we will stay in one of Andy's properties.
