Our Second Home: This is our second home. It is not a motel/hotel unit or a rental agency condo. We have continuously updated the condo and do our best to keep it well stocked and clean which can be a challenge in the tropic environment. Basics such as condiments, spices, paper goods, etc. are in the condo so each new guest does not have to buy them. Our pantry works on a 'use what you need, leave what you have extra for the next guest' basis. No promises on what you will find in the pantry! The boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrella, beach mats, snorkel gear, and beach toys are available if you wish to use them. Our on-island manager is close by in case of an emergency. Any problems must be reported immediately to our agent. For longer stays a midterm cleaning is recommended. Even with the best of intentions it is hard to adequately clean the unit before you leave and a mid stay cleaning helps to eliminate extra fees. This can be provided by our on-island manager.
Administrative: The condo is available year round. Parking is included in an assigned parking space. Guests are required by law to register with the front office and receive a parking permit to display in the car window. Only cars with parking permits are allowed on site. Cars without permits will be towed by resort security.
Once the unit is booked, a rental contract will be sent to the guest to sign and return. A key box is next to the door and the combination will be given to the guest unless other arrangements are made. A set of keys will be left on the table for the guests use. A lost or non returned key fee of $25.00 will charged if the keys are not returned.
House Rules: House rules are posted in the condo. Please read them. Infractions that can get you removed from the property are: smoking inside the buildings and noise after quiet hours. Smoke in the buildings goes into the central ventilation system and is shared with others in the building almost instantly. Security has an uncanny ability to find the source and a $200 fine ensues. No second warnings; second time the guest is asked to leave the property. Designated outdoor smoking area are provided adjacent to both the C and D buildings. Quiet hours are from 10:00PM to 6:00AM. This is the tropics. Bugs are a part of the ecosystem! The units are sprayed on a frequent basis to keep the critters out of the condos. Bugs are always looking for a meal so you can discourage them by taking the garbage out daily and not keeping empty beverage containers in the condo. Use the recycling bins or take your drink containers back to the refund center and get your deposits back.

About the owner: Dave and Rindi are both retired from Federal and State jobs with the US Forest Service, National Park Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, the State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources, and the Alaska Department of Transportation. Kihei became our winter retreat to warmer sunnier weather with our two boys. From our home in Anchorage, our neighbor to the west is an easy destination to reach and we have strong ties to both Alaska and Hawaii.
Why the Owner Chose Kihei Akahi: After numerous trips to Hawaii and having visited the 6 main islands, camped, hiked, and stayed in a variety of accommodations; we found Kihei Akahi and fell in love with the location and the quiet natural setting. Coming from a life in an uncrowded natural setting, Kihei Akahi was the right choice for us of the many condominium resorts we visited.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo: Cooking on the grills at the pools and visiting with fellow visitors. Every day, stories of new adventures and special places to visit are the topic around the grills. Eating a meal at the pool while the kids swim is a special pleasure we do not have at home. The sunsets and the blowing of the conch shells brings everyone out to watch the sun go down. Francolins, a quail like bird imported to Maui, can still be seen on the property along with many other local species of birdlife. A short walk away, sooty shearwaters nest along the beach, a species almost gone from Maui. Bocce ball players gather at the park almost daily in winter. Church services are held outdoors in the park Sunday mornings.
