Awaken to the Sounds of Birds and the Tropical Breezes
- Minimum stay:2-7 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
Wake up to the sound of tropical birds welcoming the sun as it rises over Haleakala. From the lanai, enjoy views of sunsets over the island of Lanai. Centrally located and within short walking distance from restaurants, groceries, shopping, and the beach. A short drive from three of the islands major shopping areas with grocery stores, restaurants, fast food, art, and a variety of other services. Numerous golf courses nearby. Observe and photograph the endangered Hawaiian Stilt and the Hawaiian Coot at the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge, just minutes away.
Located across the street from Kamaole Beach Park II, a county beach park with lifeguards, restrooms, showers, and two reefs to snorkel around or fish from. Kihei boat launch area is about a 10 minute walk and the departure area for many snorkel and dive trips.
Updated, well stocked, clean, available year round. We do our best to keep all of the basics such as condiments, spices, paper goods, etc. in the condo so each new guest does not have to buy them. The boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrella, beach mats, snorkel gear, and beach toys are available if you wish to use them. This is our second home and not managed by a condo rental agency. Our on-island manager is close by in case of an emergency.

location was very central everything was very accessible, condo looks just like the pictures clean and tidy very homey A/C in bedroom would be great as the breeze was not really blowing while we were there, owners are very helpful and informative and condo manager very helpful on site, i would reccomend this property to friends and family and i would hope to stay there again, all the restraunts were great we likes 808 deli resturant very goodRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Many thanks for your review. I agree that when the trade winds stop and the Kona winds, if you can call it winds take over, it gets a little warm for this northlander. I will ask Anne to move the tower fans from the front room back to the bedroom. We seem to have had more Kona winds this year than I remember in the past!. Glad you had a good time. Keep us in mind in the future. Dave

We really enjoyed our stay at Kihei. The owners were exceptionally kind and accommodating. How often can you stay at a place that comes with sweet beach gear? Not to mention spices and all the stuff you need to grill up some delicious dinners and enjoy them on the beach. Just across the street from the condos is a nice beach, where in the winter you can watch the humpback whales spouting and breaching. Good food near by, for those who don't want to cook, including a great natural food store.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Many thanks for your review. Kihei Akahi is one of the secrets of the Kihei area. We are always pleased when our guests enjoy our home away from home. We hope you will return for another sunshine stay. Dave and Rindi Patterson

Welcome to our home away from home. Having rented condos over the years we decided that the sterile place to sleep with just barely enough to get you by, just wasn't for us. We leave the boogie boards out, the kids beach toys, the condiments in the cupboard, and the basics we use are available to you. All of the kitchen appliances are here with lots of cookware and utensils. Use what you need, replace what you use up, and if you need assistance, our on- island manager is only a phone call away. Spend your time enjoying this beautiful island, not trying to find household goods in the super market. Aloha and Mahalo for visiting our site.Did you find this review helpful? Owner info
Year Purchased: 1983
About the owner: Dave and Rindi are both retired from Federal and State jobs with the US Forest Service, National Park Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, the State of Alaska Department of Natural Resources, and the Alaska Department of Transportation. Kihei became our winter retreat to warmer sunnier weather with our two boys. From our home in Anchorage, our neighbor to the west is an easy destination to reach and we have strong ties to both Alaska and Hawaii.
Why the Owner Chose Kihei Akahi:
After numerous trips to Hawaii and having visited the 6 main islands, camped, hiked, and stayed in a variety of accommodations; we found Kihei Akahi and fell in love with the location and the quiet natural setting. Coming from a life in an uncrowded natural setting, Kihei Akahi was the right choice for us of the many condominium resorts we visited.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
Cooking on the grills at the pools and visiting with fellow visitors. Every day, stories of new adventures and special places to visit are the topic around the grills. Eating a meal at the pool while the kids swim is a special pleasure we do not have at home. The sunsets and the blowing of the conch shells brings everyone out to watch the sun go down. Francolins, a quail like bird imported to Maui, can still be seen on the property along with many other local species of birdlife. A short walk away, sooty shearwaters nest along the beach, a species almost gone from Maui. Bocce ball players gather at the park almost daily in winter. Church services are held outdoors in the park Sunday mornings.
