Our family had an awesome time staying at Jack's home. His home is absolutely beautiful with a lot of space to relax. We had breakfast on the dining table inside, lunch on the balcony picnic table, cocktails and family time on the balcony couches and hammock, and prepared dinner together in his open kitchen. It rained a couple of days we were there, but we loved it. Couch big enough for the whole family to be cozy and watch movies. Shopping, restaurants and beaches right down the street but we found it hard to leave the house! Jack was very nice and very accommodating. Thank you Jack!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

My husband and I spent 10 days at this gorgeous home. Our son lives on the North Shore so this was our 4th visit. This time it was for his wedding! I know this site VRBO inside out and always have hesitation with the descriptions, photos, etc. but this house will not disappoint! We were thrilled with this beautiful home and the hospitality from Jack - the owner. Location for us was perfect. Serene and a view to die for from the Lanai. With Foodland down the hill and our son living at Shark's Cove it was an absolutely perfect location for us. We've stayed at Turtle Bay twice but didn't really use the amenities because for us it's not really a vacation, we've come to visit family and prefer a more private setting. We also have rented a cottage on the beach but it's personal preference and we would definitely choose Jack's house. I cannot express how beautiful and well kept the premises and location of this property and highly recommend it! Thank you Jack for your hospitality and we'll see you soon!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Glad you guys enjoyed your stay, Lava and I are looking forward to seeing you again. Mahalo, Jack

My husband and I just returned from a 3 week stay at Jack's house. this was our 4th trip to Oahu to visit our son and his family. the house is exactly as described, but more beautiful than the photos. We have previously stayed in Honolulu and in a Waialua condo on the beach. Jack's was by far our favorite location. The second story deck, peace and quiet, and cool breezes made this stay much more enjoyable for us. In choosing your vacation location, remember that most of the beach homes back up to Kamehameha Hwy - the main road. Be prepared for constant traffic noise - sometimes louder than the ocean waves. Another reason we picked the house was because it has AC, but we never felt the need to turn it on. The house has windows and ceiling fans everywhere. Our condo stay was nice, but for the money Jack's house was so much more. We were able to have our grand kids over to play and all 8 of us could sit around the table and have dinner together. The furniture was high quality, not IKEA furnished. I spent many mornings on the deck sipping coffee while looking at the waves and mountains and many evenings soaking in that deep tub. It was truly our home away from home while we were there. Didn't see much of Jack unless we needed him and then he was right there - even to the extent of participating in a 911 call involving my husband, an ocean kayak and the Northshore surf - quite a story, but all is well! Lava is getting up in age and she's not much of a watchdog, but she does expect you to provide her with an occasional treat if she happens to be around when you come in. The location is very close to Starbucks, the Foodland grocery store, Waimea Bay beach and the Falls. Less than 4 miles from famous Teds Bakery. Just a short drive into Haleiwa town and we found the beach there calmer and with it's proximity to Matsumoto's shave ice and Haleiwa Joes restaurant -definitely a favorite. If you visit, please take really good care of the house ...... we plan on a return visitRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

September 1 to 12th Stay at Jack's Place on the North Shore

Jim and I so enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home overlooking the beautiful North Shore. Very peaceful surroundings. Lots of beautiful flowering bushes and many different types of birds, including chickens and roosters. We adored Jack's border collie Lava. What a sweet girl. We hope both Jack and Lava are doing well. The home is beautifully appointed and comfortable with wrap around decks with spectacular views of the North Shore and the surrounding hills. You will need a vehicle if you stay at Jack's place for sure. There is a shop at the bottom of the hill off the main road which carries many food items, however, you will find better pricing if you go into the historical town of Haliewa which is only a short 10 minute drive from Jacks. If you like to golf or simply relax on the beach we found Turtle Bay Resort the perfect spot for this. They have several restaurants within the resort as well. The hut restaurant on the beach we found had the best food and the best view. We also recommend the Hawaiian Cultural Centre as a must visit. You will come across a lovely beach/camp site along the way to the Hawaiian Cultural Centre which is most often deserted. I guess it would likely depend on the time of year. The currents are fairly strong but ok for a dip and some snorkling. There are several shrimp buses on the road as well which we would recommend you stop at to enjoy a most delicious bit of freshly caught and grilled shrimp. Lastly, we want to thank Jack for allowing us to stay at his home and for such a reasonable price. Next time we come we will certainly bring along another couple of some family members. Jack, I hope Lava has healed up nicely and is alright. Please let us know by writing us at utterson@shaw.ca. Thanks again Jack and Mahalo.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We were the first guests to stay in the beautiful custom home in a very private location with amazing views. It is beautifully decorated and superb finishes that look out onto an amazing ocean view. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely come back again. Tons of natural light go along with the views and plenty of covered deck space to catch the breezes and watch the Pacific. The owner is very aloha. Please take care of Jack's place if you come visit because he did an awesome job designing this place. His dog Lava supposedly takes some warming up to but we found her to be a sweetheart, and stays to herself in the yard. Nothing but great reviews to be said about this place, look foward to going back! aloha.
