Nestled on Waneta Lake near Hammondsport, NY, our cottage, A Little Ray of Joy, is the perfect place to rest and relax or use as a home base while visiting the Finger Lakes, the heart of New York's wine country. Waneta Lake is located between Keuka and Seneca lakes; it is three miles long and 3/4 of a mile wide. It's a perfect place for boating, fishing and swimming without the crowds.
The cottage was the original home on the property. Recently remodeled, the cottage is now available for weekly rentals. Water is filtered lake water, so drinking water needs to be brought with you. However, we will provide your first 10 gallons of drinking water. Also, please note that you will need to bring linens and towels.

Don and Dee are exceptional host. The cottage is very clean and in a perfect location for swimming, fishing, or boating. From sitting on the deck and watching the sun come up or sitting by the fire on a cozy evening your sure to relax and enjoy that long deserve vacation. I can't find enough words to desrcibe this wonderful cottage and surroundings. We were there for a week it was one of the most relaxing weeks I have ever spent with my family. My husband and son enjoyed the kayaks so much. I can't tell you how many fish they caught out of the kayaks and the paddle boat it was amazing! They have bought 2 since returning home from the cottage. Don and Dee are two of the most wonderful people we have ever met. Don took us out on the fishing boat for a tour of the lake one night is was wonderful. He was kind enough to take our son and my husband out fishing too. They can't do enough for you they are wonderful hosts and just great people! The cottage was clean, well equipped and user friendly! The view is breath taking from the Florida room and the front deck I spent many hrs just sitting and looking at the lake. We had a fabulous time and can't wait to go back next year which we have already made the reservation! Looking forward to June 2013! What a wonderful cottage. Great view and location. Don is a wonderful host and the cottage is well equipped and very clean. I cant wait to come back in the fall. I would highly recommend the cottage especially if you enjoy boating or fishingRecommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+.

I failed to mention in my first review about waking up every morning and sitting in the beautiful Florida room overlooking the lake or sitting on the deck drinking coffee and admiring the view. Also the beautiful sunsets. We were content watching the boats and people water skiing or jet skiing. My husband and grand-kids enjoyed the fishing.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We just got home from being at this cottage and it was AWESOME!! Dee and Don were the BEST hosts and we enjoyed their company a lot. The cottage was immaculate and they attend to any needs or wants that you could have. We had some family join us and they were wonderful to them. We were content just being there and didn't need to travel here and there to sight see. They took us on their pontoon and also took out family on it. We visited on there lower deck and they visited us on ours. Even had cocktails together. The last night we were there Don brought us over dinner. We made some new friends in these people. Have already booked for next year and can't wait. It felt like a second home to us. With beautiful views and friendly neighbors, you can help but feel relaxed. The large deck is a great place to sit and enjoy the rural atmosphere and there are plently of outdoor activities to keep you busy on the lake. The cottage is a very warm and inviting place to crash and enjoy your time alone.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We are in our 50's and rented the house with 2 other couples in the hopes of relaxing and doing a little wine tasting, some fishing and catching up with old friends. We were extremely satisfied! Great place to do all of it. Plenty of wineries nearby. House was very clean and well maintained. We enjoyed our meals on the front deck ( beautiful lake view). The deck is wrapped around a huge tree which offers some shade on the deck. There are chairs down at the lakes edge for sunning. We especially enjoyed the kayak and rafts to float on. Lake was warm. My husband enjoyed the fishing.We all enjoyed the evenings around the fire pit. Homeowners, Don and Dee, are wonderful to deal with. Very Friendly. We are already thinking about going back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

This was by far the best cottage rental my husband and I have had in years! The cottage is cute and immaculate! Backyard great for tanning or just reading a book. The front deck, which is built around a tree, gives you a fantastic view of the lake and can either be hot or cool depending on where you position your chair. You have the best of both worlds. The kitchen is equipped with all utensils and dishes you will need for your vacation. The area is quiet and peaceful and just a short drive away is Hammondsport or Penn Yan if you should happen to get a rainy day. My husband and I highly recommend this cottage to anyone loking for a quiet, clean, and worry free vacation. The owners are extremely friendly and always available if you should have any questions. You won't regret renting this cottage!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Year Purchased: 1993
About the owner: Don and Dee Clarkson moved up to Waneta Lake from Painted Post in 1993. Don, a native of Corning, NY, and Dee, a native of Charleston, SC, own two lakefront lots at Waneta Lake. These properties have been owned by the family since 1947.
Why the Owner Chose Waneta Lake:
The property has been in the family since 1947. When Don's grandparents passed away, we were able to take over the property where the cottage was situated. Since then, we've built our own home on one of the two lots and renovated the cottage for family to use. However, since the cottage spends many weeks vacant, we decided to start renting it out for others to enjoy.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Since we are permanent residents on the lake, we enjoy being able to see sunrises on the lake year-round and watch the seasons change from the active summer season with boaters, fishermen and swimmers to the leaves falling and then the ice fishermen and ice car racers in the winter. Living on the lake affords us a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the beauty of nature with only a short drive to town.
