Turning Point, a Terrific Hatteras Rental.
Turning Point is located in the quiet, picturesque Brigands' Bay neighborhood that has scenic views, gnarled old live oak trees, Pamlico Sound access, and is friendly to walkers, bikers, kayakers, kids, and even dogs.
We don’t have any fancy stuff -- no hot tub, pool, game room, home theater, or video library.
We do have a comfortable, homey Hatteras beach cottage that is light and airy with warm juniper paneled walls and a cathedral ceiling in the great room. The rooms are large, and the furnishings are tasteful. You won’t feel crowded here.
The large great room has sliding glass doors that open onto a deck and onto a large, furnished screened porch. The big kitchen with its counters and “island” bar is very well stocked with everything you will need for your stay.
There are three bedrooms and two full baths. Master bedroom and bath are downstairs and two bedrooms, with another bath in between, open onto an upstairs balcony.
There is a large, new LED flat screen TV (just one!) with cable and Wi-Fi service and shelves of books, games, and jigsaw puzzles.
You can fish and crab from the dock on the canal with its fish-cleaning table and bench.
You can tie up your boat at the dock and have access to the Pamlico Sound for more fishing, crabbing, and clamming, or just exploring the shore. There is also a two-person kayak at the house for exploring the Pamlico Sound.
We cater to folks who want to come “and sit a while.” Turning Point is affordable for those who want to come and stay for several weeks – or even months. The basic weekly rental is among the most reasonable around. It’s just that -- a basic rental charge with taxes and a modest pet fee as the only additional charges. No reservation fees, deposits, or anything else. And there is a discount if you rent for more than one week.
Come to Turning Point and enjoy the laid-back island lifestyle at its best – for as long as you can stay.
Turning Point is a Shore Details house. Not only will the folks at Shore Details make sure your house is clean when you check in and clean up after you, but they are also available to help with any maintenance problems during your stay. In addition, through the company’s Concierge Service, you can have groceries stocked before you arrive, have a pre-cooked dinner delivered to your cottage, arrange for catering for parties, rent linens, find a babysitter, or plan your excursions – charter fishing, eco-tours, sunset cruises, or anything else you want during your stay.

Irene's Turning Point is a wonderful getaway that my family and I enjoyed this past summer. Her home is well maintained. The views of the canal, especially at sunset, were amazing. Thank you so much for use of the kayak! We were comfortable all week and cannot wait to come back and visit again! This is a definite recommend!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

We love this place. Immediately upon arrival we felt at home and the house is quite spacious and perfectly equipped. Whether paddling around the sound, crabbing off the dock or just relaxing on the deck this place is perfect. Anyone looking for a nice place to stay slightly off the beaten path I highly recommend Turning Point. We are looking forward to our return.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children.

I stayed at the Turning Point this past July and was thrilled beyond all of my expectations! This is a very clean and well maintained house with spacious rooms. The Great room has sliding glass doors spanning across the entire back displaying a beautiful view of the canal and dock. Every morning, I relaxed on the dock, enjoyed my coffee, and threw a line in the water until it was time to head to the beach. At night I’d kick back on the deck and admire a truly breathtaking view of the stars. The house is located in a people/pet friendly neighborhood that is a hop, skip, and jump to the beach access, restaurants, grocery stores and the ferry. The owner is extremely knowledgeable and accessible via emails/phone, ensuring your vacation is as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. Overall, this house was a winner and certainly made my vacation one to remember. I highly recommend the Turning Point…see you next year!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

My husband & I stayed here as a home base to our week of fishing. The house sits on a canal on the sound side and offers nice sunsets. I would recommend make up trips at Hatteras Harbor Marina if you want some offshore fishing. We had our catch cleaned and vacuum packed right at the dockand brought home our catch. The owner was great and offered suggestions for things to do. We shopped at Conners Market and got some great rib eye steaks to grill and the guy at Frisco Bait & Tackle can hook you up with license & bait. The Miss Hatteras boat would be a good bet to bring kids for a half day of fishing- the Captain and Mate were great with kids- made them feel really special.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Upon arriving at Turning Point we immediately felt comfortable. Roomy, well stocked kitchen, open living room area with lots of light, it was perfect for us. Everything was clean and tidy and we spent a good deal of time cooking in the spacious kitchen. The stargazing was as advertised and we witnessed some lovely sunsets over the sound while relaxing on the deck. Irene was quite helpful leading up to and during our visit. We are very much looking forward to returning next year.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children.

Our stay at Turning Point was wonderful. When we arrived the house was clean. It is very open and spacious. We comfortably fit 4 adults and 3 teenagers. This was probably the most relaxing vacation we have ever had! The owner was very helpful in letting us know about things to do in the area and when was the best time to do them. We will definately be back. The house is located in close proximatey to the beach, the lighthouse and to the marina's. My husband has never cared for the beach but being at Turning Point and the Outer Banks has changed his mind on the beach!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, families with young children, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We stayed at TP for 6 weeks while we were transferring to TX for work. It was great! The home was just as described, very clean and peaceful. It had everything we needed for our stay. Our dogs enjoyed the experience as well. It is very quiet on the "sound" and the stars are amazing. There is plenty of room and we never ran out of visitors during our stay. We did alot of crabbing right off the deck and the beaches were some of the best we have been on. Ocracoke is a very nice day trip and a great place to go shelling. The owner was very accomodating and full of helpful information. We can't wait to come back to OBX and enjoy all the area has to offer. If you are looking for somewhere to get away and relax this is it!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

These are the ways Turning Point is cool: Big, open, well-lit living space that goes all the way to the roof in the living and dining areas. Spacious bedrooms upstairs and down with plenty of windows. Lots of cabinets and counter space in a bright, open kitchen, including an island to which people can pull up stools and have drinks while kibitzing with the cooks. Expansive decks, one of them screened-in, overlooking a scenic canal, where you can fish and crab or watch large birds do the same. There’s a dock with a fish table where you can get your catch ready for the kitchen. Bring your boat to the dock and you can follow the canal a short distance out to the Pamlico Sound. The whole arrangement is elevated a good distance above the ground, which provides a good view of the canal and the neighborhood, from the decks or through the sliding glass doors from the couch. It’s located in Brigands' Bay, a quiet neighborhood a short distance from shopping, restaurants and public beach access. Get ready to relax. Owner info
Year Purchased: 1983
About the owner: The year 1983 was actually the year that I purchased property in Brigands' Bay. In December, 1989, just before a record-breaking blizzard at the seashore, the pilings for the house were put in. The cottage was completed in March, 1990. I had been coming to Hatteras Island since the mid-'70s, since my two children were youngsters. I'd always wanted a house here and now I had one. It's beautiful, and I'm still proud of it. Ironically, I have never lived in it. The year after the cottage was completed, I had a real Turning Point in my life. I left my job as an editor at a big city newspaper in Louisville, Ky., got married to a Hatteras islander moved to the seashore. I live on the same street as Turning Point in my husband's house. My two children who grew up knowing nothing but Hatteras beach vacations are now adults and the summers at Hatteras tradition continues with my nine grandchildren. The oldest is 16, and the youngest is 5, and they love Hatteras and Brigands' Bay just as much as their grandmother and parents. We have built many family memories here.
Why the Owner Chose Frisco:
Brigands' Bay is, in my view, Hatteras Island's premier waterfront neighborhood. It is a true neighborhood, a mixture of permanent residents and rentals, all well maintained. The neighborhood of canals and creeks and marsh and gnarled liveoaks is the best place to enjoy all that Hatteras has to offer. It's right in the middle of the lovely Cape Hatteras National Seashore with easy access to beaches, fishing, the Hatteras charter boat fleet, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, surfing, windsurfing, hiking trials in the Buxton Woods Maritime Forest, and many, many other recreational opportunities.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Turning Point is located on a picturesque canal with direct access to the Pamlico Sound. You can sit on the bench at the dock and fish and crab or if you have a boat, you can tie it up here and have easy access for the sound for more fishing and crabbing opportunities, clamming, water sports, or just seeing the sights. It's quiet and it's peaceful, the way a Hatteras vacation should be.
