The grounds are covered with lawns, and numerous perennial and annual gardens maintained by a gardener. Flowers bloom all summer. Please e-mail us and request photos in addition to the ones we've provided here.
The first floor is comprised of nearly 1000 square feet of decks and porches with two primary entrances to the interior as well as three glass sliders. Two picnic tables, an abundance of summer lounges and chairs as well as a gas grill compliment the exterior area.
The first floor contains a spacious and full kitchen with windows on three sides, a large pantry, antique style cupboards, micro wave, complete gas stove, numerous electrical appliances, and side by side refrigerator. An ample supply of eating and cooking utensils, pot, pans, dishes and glassware is contained in the cupboards. The living/dining room is accessed directly off the kitchen and is 14 foot x 40 foot with the original wood and timber ceiling. There is a wood stove and a fireplace in this room as well as a large seating/conversation area, a dining room capable of seating eight and a TV area. The living room is furnished and decorated with many antiques. There is a half bath located off the living room.
There is a large formal hall and stairway to the second floor where there are three bedrooms. One bedroom suite contains a large bath, reading and dressing area. An additional bath is available for the other bedrooms with all providing outstanding views to sunrises, Boothbay Harbor and the outlining islands including Monhegan and Squirrel. Truly magnificent views!

Southport Island is a terrific location on the coast of Maine! This rental is lovely - it was incredibly clean upon our arrival. The house is filled with collections of antiques and lobster memorabilia which made it a fun place. There were a few reasons we did not give an excellent rating: the property appears on the listing to be directly on the water. In fact, it is a walk across a large lawn and down a path to get to the water. Certainly not an issue, but I would list it as a water view. Also, there is another building on the property - about 30 feet from the main house - which has tenants. The home also shares space with a beautiful chapel, so the access road to the house is much busier than we had anticipated. If you are seeking true privacy - this home is not the one to rent. And lastly, the cleaning fee for this home is $200. I can understand why with all the collectibles - but that is the largest amount we have ever paid for cleaning. We did enjoy our stay - and would recommend this property - but felt that future renters would like to know about the issues we mentioned.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

This was a spacious and well appointed property. The reality was even better than the photos and the inside was spotless and well maintained. I would have no problem recommending this property to a friend or relative. We enjoyed exploring Southport and the fact that the property was on the water. I would highly recommend a trip to Monhegan Island. Other than that biking, hiking and kayaking will keep you plenty busy. We would definitely go back.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

My family (3 generations) stayed here August 2010. Although the rental photos are quite good, they still don't do the place justice. We couldn't have asked for a better house and grounds and wouldn't want to see a thing changed. The house's elevation affords it a great view of the water and when not outside you'll enjoy the view within as the home is beautifully decorated. Our stay was comfortable, filled with plenty of r & r, nature, and nearby towns when we wanted to venture off the island. Particularly we enjoyed the walk down to the water past the chapel and to the pier that we shared with other vacationers and Mainers. Wonderful!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

My family stayed here summer 2010 and felt so very fortunate to have had the privledge. The owners hospitality is apparent in every corner of this home. Many places to just sit, relax and read a book while the kids played outside. A vast collection of very interesting books to choose from too. The big hit for the kids was the frog pond, hunting for seaglass on the shore and fresh blueberries for breakfast right from the yard. My kids were active in the Southport Yacht Club and this location is very close by. The heritage rich church right down the road was a wonderfully added experience as well. We highly recommend this property for anyone that wants the convenience that vacationing in a beautifully furnished and fully equipped home can provide.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

My husband and I, our kids, and my parents stayed at this cottage last summer. We loved the location. The owner's were very accomodating and they went out of their way to show us around the property and recommend things to do and places to eat in the area. The pictures they posted on the website did not do the property justice. The house was very clean and homey. We had more than enough room. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone who wants to be close to the Boothbay area and stay in a beautiful Maine setting. The only thing we didn't take advantage of that we wished we had was kayaking from the campground down the road. We saw others doing that and wished we had but ran out of time.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.
Owner response: This is our home and not like a commercial rental plus it is our nature to accomodate guests in our home. We are certainly pleased they enjoyed our home. Ed and Arlene

Great place to rent Kayaks and buy lobsters from Steve, the owner. Tell Steve you are staying at the "Jewett's" place and while you probably won't get a break on price, you'll get a free ten minute conversation with a local! Be sure you put your lobster order in the day before as he "hauls" every day and your lobsters will be absolutely the freshest they can be. A five minute walk down the lane along the shore.

Monhegan Island View on map
Take a trip back into time. The boat to Monhegan leaves daily from Boothbay and provides plenty of time to visit the Museum, hike along the cliffs, visit the numerous artists who summer here. Wear comfortable walking shoes as there are no public vehicles available on the island but gravel roads and many walking and hiking trails.

All Saints By The Sea Church View on map
Attend a 100 year old church located right on the rocks. Summer services are held ten Sundays with an occasional Saturday wedding. All Saints is a popular local attraction due to the quaint nature of the chapel and its outstanding location looking out across the entrance to Boothbay Harbor. A must visit and don't forget your camera!.
