  we traveled to Hawaii for the first time and this place was exactly what we were looking for. This rental is very cozy and in a fabulous location. Amanda and Richard are great hosts. we stayed for 8 days and loved it the entire time we was there. the beach is just around the corner with great views. the beauty of this place was fabulous. if your looking for a nice, cozy, clean, roomy place to stay..THIS IS THE PLACE. You will not find another place on this island that is more of what your looking for. We definitely will be making return trips to this rental. thank you so much Amanda and Richard for everything that you have done for us.

  We are very happy with our vacation experience here in Kailua. Amanda has been a wonderful host. The location is private, being in the rear half of the lot, away from the street, is ideal. It is only about a 5 minutes walk to the beach. The suite with the two rooms offered a great deal of space and being upstairs, you can hear the sounds of the surf and also catch a lot of breeze for the full tropical experience. The rooms were very clean and the whole property was well kept. We would definitely return to Kailua and stay in this unit again. It is a wonderful way to spend time in Hawaii.

  The 5 of us returned less than 1 week ago from our Hawaii vacation. We all agreed, we loved both the rental property and its location. The Malulani suite was very clean and spacious. We loved that some could sleep in and others could be up early to make coffee and watch the sunrise without waking anyone. Both Kailua and Lanikai beaches are breathtaking without all the noize and craziness of Waikiki. The kitchen offered everthing we needed (hotplate/microwave/outdoor grill) to make breakfast and dinner. Both Foodland and Times Supermarket are close by for groceries. We loved Agnes' Portuguese Bake shop for Malasada's/Scones/etc and Zippy's for a fastfood place. Attractions are all within driving distance. We did Pearl Harbor, Swap Meet, North Shore, Dole, Hanauma Bay, Manoa Falls, Pro Bowl, etc. You can do as much or as little as you want and still enjoy. Thank you Amanda for making our stay so enjoyable. We highly recommend your rental and hope to see you again soon.

  I booked Amanda's lovely 2 bedroom rental in October. Oops, on vacation Day 8, a smashing fall resulted in a nasty laceration on my elbow requiring 10 stitches at nearby Urgent Care! A serious injury that allowed me to schedule early return to mainland using my travel insurance. To lighten the weight of my medium sized suitcase to be able to manhandle the suitcase with the other arm, several flat rate boxes needed to be mailed home to Idaho. The day I left was a federal holiday so no postal service! Amanda graciously accepted the boxes and cash to mail the next day! Extraordinary kindness when the chips were down and I thank Amanda so much for taking time away from her busy schedule to mail the boxes to the mainland! She even sent a check for the change from the post office. When I return to Kailua, I'll definitely book with Amanda again. She and her family are gracious non-interferring on-site owners with lovely, super clean rental units less than five minutes from beautiful Kailua beach. The ocean was heavenly, warm and addictive. To and old Southern California girl, it was Home! Thanks Amanda! The wound has healed well and will not slow down my snorkeling and other adventures next year when I return to Hawaii and do my vacation with the same enjoyment as many in the past! No falls!

  We had a wonderful stay at this vacation rental during our visit to Oahu in September. We have stayed in Kailua in a number of B&B's in the past. We like the Malulani suite best! We found the location in a quiet neighborhood convenient - a short walk to Kailua Beach and close to Kailua town. We loved all the space we had in the Malulani. Although there were just two of us, we loved having an extra room, which allowed one of us to stay up late, reading, or arising early and using the kitchen or computer without disturbing the other. The Malulani was clean, nicely furnished, and tastefully decorated. The kitchen was pretty well-supplied. It was nice having a full-size refrigerator. The owner was accessible in another part of the house; this was helpful for any questions or particular needs. We would love to stay at the Malulani again in the future.

  I must say that 2 weeks at Amanda's property in both the downstairs 1 bedroom unit & then we moved upstairs to this 2 bedroom unit when additonal family arrived was an overall great experience. But if you're in my age range (a baby boomer not quite ready for Medicare) I failed to note the specifics of the kitchen upstairs. And now reading the details over, it doesn't clearly state: "no stove and no oven". The hot plate was ok as was the electric skillet but the toaster oven stays permanently on broil so don't plan to cook a full meal. And yes there is a barbeque but it needs a thorough cleaning. Still, these are easily fixed issues and if that occurs we'll be back again. Amanda, her husband and sons are welcoming and friendly but not watching their guests every move. For that I can overlook a lot.

  Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway.

  Owner response: I am very concerned that my guests are comfortable and everything is working as it should be in their suite. To the end, upon arrival, I always point out where my front door is, and invite my guests to please let me know if anything is not working as it should be, or if they need anything, whether it be something as small as more toilet paper, or something larger, like a toaster oven not working correctly. So I appreciate knowing the toaster oven is not working properly, now I can immediately replace it! Of course, I would rather know about it in person, rather than through a review--but to all my future guests--please be assured that the toaster oven is being replaced, and the grill will be clean. And I hope you will please feel free to tell me in person if anything else needs my attention.

  Our family of 5 stayed in Amanda's fantastic accomodations durng the month of April. Having never been to Hawaii, we reallly certainly got it right the first time! Not only for the accomodations, but for the location and price which was very reasonable. The huge upper level private accomodations delivered much more than we were expecting or could have hoped for. It was surrounded by lush gardens serenaded by scores of exotic tropical birds a mere block and a half stroll to an eye popping huge crescent beach with hard packed sand ideal for sunrise/sunset strolls or power walks and swimming in the bath tub warm, rock free, kid friendly shallow ocean. We will definitley come back and recommend this to friends and family. Thank you Amanda and family for beign gracious and accomodating hosts and hostesses.

  Our family of four (including 2 young adult daughters) just spent a week in this spacious suite. Amanda and her family were very helpful and provided all we needed (and wanted) for an amazing stay. The big rooms were picture-perfect, providing nice privacy for our girls separate from us. Even the bathroom was large, including a nice big sink counter with lots of drawers & large mirror. The kitchen was very adequate for our needs as well, including the bottled water and chocolates awaiting our arrival! We never needed the air conditioning, as the breeze was quite nice with the windows open. We appreciated the beach towels, the boogie boards and beach chairs that were available for our use, as well as the outside shower to hose off after being at the BEAUTIFUL beach - the sunrise on Christmas Day was OUTSTANDING! A couple of small drawbacks: The parking was a little hard to maneuver in, unless the cars each parked to the left as they came in. Also, we endeavored to stay quiet until 7:30am as requested, but found that a bit difficult when wanting to shower and be out early... However, we did understand the importance of this, when we were directly above another apartment. We will definately recommend this to others, and hopefully will be back ourselves! Kayaking to Flat Island, renting from Kailua Sailboards & Kayaks. Zippy's chili is wonderful. Cinnamon's for breakfast was delightful. Also Buzz's Steakhouse for dinner (make reservations first, no credit cards accepted.)

  We had unexpected business in Honolulu and didn't want to fight the Waikiki crowds, so we checked on a last minute VRBO in lovely Kailua. We were so lucky to find our dates with Amanda in her islandy two bedroom 2nd story suite. Amanda includes all the kitchen and bathroom amenities to make this a home, which has high ceilings, cool breezes and a walk-in closet. We walked to the beach, used the beach chairs and boogie boards and were able to make this business trip a vacation. Very nice! We would (and already did) recommend this property to family and friends.

  We recently stayed in the Malu Lani Suite (2 bedroom suite) on Oct 13-20, 2010. This suite was perfect for us and our 3 young teenagers. My wife had never visited Hawaii and wanted to stay in Waikiki, but having lived in Honolulu for a little while, I convinced her that we should stay away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. So we decided on this property in Kailua and it was a great choice...we couldn't have been happier with our decision! The suite is spacious with room for everyone! The kitchenette is very nice and well equipped even though we didn't utilize it like we had planned. Driving into Waikiki only took about 30 minutes, so it is relatively close but yet far enough away. Kailua Beach is just a short walk away. We took several early morning walks to the beach to watch the spectacular sunrise. Even though Amanda told us about the central A/C, we didn't even use it once in the entire week we stayed. We kept all the windows open and the trade winds kept the rooms comfortable both during the day and at night. There are also several places to dine in Kailua and with three teenagers, Boston's Pizza was a favorite (went there twice during the week). This property is one of those needles in the haystack! We would definitely recommend it and would love to stay there again. Thanks Amanda for your warm hospitality and we look forward to staying there again!
