Newly Renovated-Casa Esplendida, Across from the English Library
Welcome to Casa Esplendida, nestled in the heart of Historic Centro, Merida. Mayan Culture and Historical Architecture will amaze you! Located across from the English Library, (the hub of information for any visitor) Casa Esplendida is undeniably the best location for all that Merida has to offer. Museums, Art Galleries, Markets and Enchanting Parks with evening entertainment, as well as restaurants and shopping are all within a short walking distance. Day trips and many excursions are available to Mayan Ruins, Haciendas, Cenotes (underground fresh water caves) or even the beach.
From the moment you enter the Iron Gate, you are embraced by the antique vase with nine foot floral design, silhouetted by massive arches and 18 foot colonial ceilings. The foyer and living room speak of something rich and grand, yet soothing and comfortable. The original tile floors, the craftsmanship of local artists, and the comfortable furnishings will immediately make you feel you're at home.
Just completed in the spring of 2009, this Colonial Historic home has had a makeover just for you. Blended in accents of stone, hardwood and iron works by local craftsmen, Casa Esplendida is a tasteful melding of historic and modern, elegant and comfortable. The blend of colors and textures will draw you in through the dinning room arches, past the large modern kitchen (with eat at bar) and through the iron gate to the open air terrace. This area is large enough to entertain, yet cozy enough for two to relax in their own oasis retreat. Enjoy the new pool encompassed by massive archways and pillars on one side and flanked by a life size fountain of natural stone. The soft sounds of water gently cascading will melt your worries away. Siesta on the patio or roof top terrace and refresh yourself under the outside stone shower.
Everything has been completely redone: electrical, plumbing, air conditioning in both master suites and living room, ceiling fans and all new lighting. The kitchen is new and modern. Everything is there for you! Bedrooms are adorned with antique wood and iron, and bamboo furnishings to set the mood. You can enjoy dinning in the formal dinning room, which seats six, or outside on the patio. If you choose, you can entertain and dine right at the kitchen bar which is dressed in natural Tikul stone. The pool, patio, and kitchen are the heart of this home so you will never be more than a few steps away from your next cocktail or the volume on the radio. The floor plan has been designed for the utmost comfort, convenience and privacy. This home features wifi internet and a new television with cable. If you don’t have your laptop, just walk across the street to the library for computer access with an English key board. The Library can provide assistance, if needed. Pick up something to read or find out happenings of the day or events through out the week.
Your home away from home has many conveniences. Upon request, there can be maid service, cook, laundry, and gardener/pool service available. A Local Property Manager will meet each guest upon arrival to Casa Esplendida. They can assist or give advice on transportation, tour information, restaurant recommendations, general information or emergencies. Rental prices also include pick up and return service to the Merida airport with an English speaking escort.
Your visit will be Unforgettable! This property will invoke envy among your friends and family when you share your photos and beautiful memories with them.

I hope you got my other message last night. We love your home, Javier and Merida! We have traveled everywhere in Yucatan and by far your place is the best. Will definitely give positive feedback. Thanks for a very beautiful and comfortable place to stay. We had everything we needed; plenty of towels soap lotion fresh water. You know how to treat your guests. Thanks so much. Expansive, gorgeous updated casa located within walking distance to just about everything the city has to offer. Restaurants, museums, tours, you name it, it can be accomplished steps away from the door. This four bedroom casa actually has four master suites, two in the main house and two in the casita. Perfect for privacy and/or just getting away for a while from your family/travel mates. The plunge pool was the perfect size for cooling off throughout the day, and the depth was perfect for everyone (not too shallow/not too deep). Used the AC two nights out of seven, and only when there was no breeze. Perfectly equipped kitchen and plenty of linens and towels for everyone. The washer/dryer was a nice touch as well.... Do not count on GPS to get there initially, as the city has many similarly marked streets (we found 4 calle 66's!!) Get directions directly from the owners, and use them.....! Assertive driving is a must in this city, but once you get the hang of it, it is easy AND fun! The carriage rides are wonderful, but not every carriage driver treats his horse well. Find one who will introduce you to their horse, and bring a carrot for them too!! A little Spanish goes a long way, but we found that waiters would bring us English menus without asking. Prices are VERY inexpensive in Merida, make sure to tip waiters, baggers, drivers, etc. The owners and management were prompt with information and e-mails, and we lacked for nothing while we were there.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Hey Guys, thanks so much for your kind words. We hope folks make memories to last a lifetime when staying at our home and it sounds like you may have done just that. You are so right...So Much to do, See, Taste, Experience, right out the front door, and a quick trip to the beach is a blast as well. Thanks again for choosing Casa Esplendida. We look forward to seeing you again! Dave & Shari

Thank You to Dave & Shari for sharing this lovely property with us. Enjoyed every minute of our time here. Beautiful home and a good location. The pool was great, a fantastic treat at the end of the day! We loved the back yard and took naps in the hammocks. All the necessities and more. Microwave, gas stove, coffee maker, alarm clock, bottled water, ceiling fans and air conditioning, stereo and some CD’s. The “more” would be a TV, because who would watch TV when there is a pool! Easy walk to more activities then we were able to do, at the same time, a very quiet neighborhood where the home is located. The home & outdoor area are very clean and well maintained. Saturday our towels and bedding were changed and washed. The people involved with this property were fantastic, from Dave & Shari, LeAnn (the property manager), Javier (transportation to/from airport, as well as a liquor store) and Maria. Also a huge thanks to LeAnn for setting up our Uxmal tour with Carlos, hands down the best tour guide we’ve ever had. They made our trip effortless. Bug free. Sure there were a couple here and there while sitting by the pool at dusk, but no problems other then that. I mention it because of another review that said it was full of mosquitos. I slept in the rear of the main house, with all the windows open and the screens functioned fine. We plan to visit Palenque in the future, and, after talking to Carlos, plan to base the trip from Merida. We’d rent Casa Esplendida again in a heart beat. Thanks Again! Tips: Get a city map, maybe from a magazine or they may have one on a table in the entry. It is really easy getting around in Merida. All north/south Calles (streets) seem to be even numbered and the east/west are odd. We felt very safe at all times. Taking cabs are inexpensive and easy. A member of our party loved the walking tour of homer that left from the English Library, literally across the street. Obtain Pesos, you’ll need them. Not a lot of dollars get used here. Check out the local information in the home near the front door, brouchers and such. A little Spanish or a language guide goes a long ways, for example, all menus we encountered were only in Spanish. Thanks for sharing your home, G&M Minneapolis, MNRecommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Hola Greg. Thanks so much for your kind words. Sorry about the TV, we do have a large flat screen which was unfortunately in for repairs....we do agree however, that very little time is ever spent in front of the tube. Although Javier did bring his personal TV to our home for a period of time, and we are so grateful for that, ours should be back soon. We do feel we have a good team of folks working together that enable our clients to make the memories of a lifetime that they are looking for. Comfort, convince, peacefulness, is all attributed to Casa Esplendidas location, owners, and team. Thanks again for recognizing this and your kind words...they mean so much to us. We hope your family and friends will be visiting again soon. Merida is an excellent hub to take in all the Yucatan has to offer. Take care. Dave & Shari

As my son and daughter-in-law told us upon arrival, "it's perfect!" and it was for the five of us (including our 9 month old granddaughter. Clean, spacious, great garden and outdoors hanging out area, everything we needed. Wonderful support from rental agent and her support people ( Javier could not hav been more gracious and helpful). Walking distance to parks and restaurants and markets, including the central plaza. Would easily accommodate 8 adults. Highly recommend! HI David. We absolutely loved your property. It fitted perfectly with our needs at the conference. We could definitely tell that our other colleagues that stayed in the hotel were jealous! Also, just having the ability to go food shopping and having a house to come home to after each day was very relaxing. And, it was so close to the restuarants.Did you find this review helpful? This is a lovely house to come home to after a day of exploring Merida and the Yucatan. It is spotless and has many lovely touches such as authentic Mexican tiles throughout, a great lay-out, comfortable beds, a well-appointed entertaining kitchen, and a spacious outdoor area for enjoying the cooler Mexican evenings. The English library across the street is great for getting information and meeting people. The property manager, Lee Ann, is also a great source of information about the area. Forget the news you've heard about the dangers of Mexico. The Yucatan is a place apart and we did not have one instance of worrying about our safety during our stay. The Yucatecans are hard-working and honest people who delight in showing off their city of Merida and telling you about the surrounding sites. This would be a perfect place for a family or four couples or a "girls' get-a-way."Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Hola Mary Nell and friends. Gracias for your great reply! We are so glad you had such a fun experience here in Merida and the Yucatan. We look forward to your next visit, and for you to enjoy Casa Esplendida and all that Merida has to offer.

Great Rental Value Review submitted: March 11, 2011 Date of arrival: February 19, 2011 Hello again from - 2 degrees celcius in Canada! Quite a shock returning after enjoying the weather in Merida. We did alot and very much enjoyed your house. The location was great. Spacious rooms/bedrooms, quality linens and towels, kitchen dishes and cooking apparatus and plenty of them, Wireless access, the pool, the lounging areas, the hammocks & of course, the cleanliness! We have rented many places around the world and Casa Esplendida is definately in the top. We even appreciated the few condiments and spices left to get us started and were happy to contribute for the next renter. And, we felt secure. Certainly the Yucateneos are a friendly bunch too, which we really enjoyed. We certainly will recommend Casa Esplendida as a great rental value. The five of us had a very comfortable stay. Thanks again. Best wishes. Hélène & JimDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

WOW Great House Review submitted: January 15, 2011 Date of arrival: January 6, 2011 Dave and Shari, I just got home a couple of hours ago and after slogging through the 430 (no exaggeration)new emails in my inbox wanted to drop you a line to say WOW! Great house, great location, GREAT Kitchen (although we cooked a grand total of zero meals in it, we spent a lot of time sitting at the bar and chatting). Your home and this mini break gave us a chance to reconnect with our kids and was much appreciated. In reading your welcome book (incidentally, it was the best one I have ever seen) I look at and sell vacation rentals in Playa and I can tell you that this is one of the nicest homes that I have EVER seen. Thanks for all of the care you have given to the place. My daughter has her 1st big equestrian tournament at the end of March and she has already told me that she expects me to rent your house again for the long weekend when we are there. Needless to say, she will not have to twist my arm too hard to get me to book with you again. I look forward to my next trip back to your home! Best Regards, Rob Owner/BrokerDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
